OMG! the memories this brings back ! I bought this album when I was 17 (I'm now 51) and sang along with it until I sounded very nearly like Giorgio Tozzi! Then, when I got the chance to audition for the Desert Song in college, I won the lead because the director said "for a 20 year old, you sound so much like Giorgio Tozzi, we don't have any other choice but to give you the role"
I too am old enough to have bought this LP when it first came out. I would like to request that the whole "Eastern and Western Love" scene be posted. This is three separate male songs. The bass begins with "Let love come" arguing for polygamy. The tenor sings "One flower" arguing further for polygamy and finally the baritone answers them with "One Alone" - defending monogamy. On this recording the tenor was Peter Palmer of L'il Abner fame.
I was blessed to have Ms. Barr as a vocal instructor for a brief few weeks ( Frt. Lee,N.J./ 1988-89 )and got to see this ACTUAL album on her wall, for which and award was won. She was a grace and beauty-red head even after all those years passed. No full of herself attitude. Thank- You to the person who posted this. FOND MEMORIES!!!
Thank you, devtonia, for sharing the wonderful memories. I must thank fancuilladelsouth (she is at the top of the page) for sending me her precious recording to be uploaded. Thank you for listening and commenting. C.
@devtonia I also took singing lessons from kathy Barr ,she is a really nice lady ,great singing teacher too. I went I think around the same time you took singing lessons too i;m going to try out I hope for x fator ,i think thats the name of the show . too old for american idol lol 45 well write back eddie the cowboy
That was GREAT! I was wanting to hear something from this album because of Kathy Barr. I'll have to find a good condition copy of this on vinyl and dub it to CD.
I just finished a production of THE DESERT SONG for Skylark Opera in St. Paul, MN. I played General Birabeau in that production as well as in the one that the company did 13 years earlier. The music still never ceases to enthrall.
On one regional opera company. I was on the board as well as singing chorus. We lobbied the director to have the company do "Desert Song" We thought it would be a great work and a great money maker for that small bankrupt company. But she would'nt do it. I always hoped there would be an opportunity for me to be in "Desert Song" but that never happened. But I love the work. Thanks for the posting, C. Take car and as my wife likes to say, "Have fun."
Wow!What a great clip of these two singers. Just right! Not overdone, like so many singers try to do. This couple really has the feel for "Desert Song'. I love the way the singers, the baritone especially, are lingering and wrapping themselves the notes. That gives the listeneer a chance to really feel what is going on.Thank you so much, C.
I was in Romberg's "Student Prince" some years ago. I was not a student but the bartender, but was staged so I got to sing all the chorus music.

As much as I like Lanza's version, Tozzi and Barr's duet is the best!
