The E.S.V. Study Bible HAS to be an improvement over the N.I.V. Study Bible, if only because notes are attached to a good translation in the case of the E.S.V., & attached to a pathetically inadequate paraphrase in the case of the N.I.V. However, there are editions of the same study Bible, so far as notes are concerned, with the N.A.S.B. version, which provides a better text along with the excellent notes. There`s also the Concordia N.A.S.B. Study Bible, essentially the same but rather better.
