  • Great video clip! I love Jimmy Stewart's acting ability! I especially like him in the Alfred Hitchcock movie, The Man Who Knew Too Much (with Doris Day), and the movie with Maureen O'hara, Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation.

  • They just don't make them anymore like Jimmy Stewart. Jimmy enlisted in WWII when he was a teen. Can you even imagine a young male celebrity today like DiCaprio, Timberlake, etc.. enlisting in the armed forces during our present critical war times? How pathetic! These new Hollywood stars pale in comparison to yesteryear's stars

  • Impossible to disguise Jimmy Stewart's voice.

  • One of my favourite actors of all time. Love James Stewart. RIP.

  • its hard for jimmy to hide his voice

  • I love him in ""Vertigo"" & ""Bell, Book, and Candel"" (both 1958), and both with Kim Novak. P.S. Check out Miss Novak's ""What's My Line?"" appearance!!!

  • @1967mansfield He was far too old in both those films.

  • notice how the women dont stand for a man even jimmy

  • Jimmy makes today's actors look pitiful. Yes, a current What's My Line would be crap.

  • @merriny Of the old Hollywood.

  • Sadly, so few of our celebrities of today have the kind of class, dignity, and aplomb that stars of the past had. Ditto for television hosts as Mr. Daly would vastly outperform his contemporaries in every previously mentioned category.

  • @merriny And very intelligent. That's all very few people care about these days.

  • I was lucky enough to have corresponded with Mr. Stewart three times before his death. He was my favorite actor when I was 16 (1977), and he still is. One of the nicest, most talented Americans to ever grace the screen. Absolutely LOVE this guy....

  • Does anyone else see a very large rabbit sitting next to Jimmy?

  • There's no hiding that voice :)

  • My favorite actor! No question about it!

  • I remember watching these shows when I was a kid in the 50's....I always focused on the contestants and the panel....in retrospect, John Daly was the funniest and most quick witted of them all....absolutely fantastic!

  • Sometimes I think Bennet cerf knows who it is, but does not want to say to keep the show going.....?????

  • @MrSteed464 Bennet said they had an agreement to go around the panel at least once before guessing.

  • No hiding Jimmy with that voice.

  • even though jimmy is trying to disguise his voice, i still would have got it. so recognizable. :P

  • I gotta laugh at all the product placement. Still, the innocence of it all compared to the glitzy bullshit of today (on the countless channels with nothing on) is great.

  • Why the 9 dislikes???

  • i love jimmy stewart!!!!!!

  • i love how some of these stars don't really wanna cooperate. so the smart ass reflex kicks in. soooooooooooo cuteeeeeeeee

  • he sounds sad when he says they took him off flight status

  • I love that voice! I think that's my favorite voice of all time. :) He's my favorite actor too!

  • A great man. We lack this type today. At least I think we lack this type.

  • Thumbs up if you think Jimmy Stewart is the spirit of America

  • It is very difficult to say enough nice things about this man. Devoted husband and father, who married in 1949 at the "old age" of 41 and remained married to his wife until her death in 1994. Rose from the rank of private to colonel in the U.S. 8th Air Force in four years, flew actual combat missions over Europe, and retired a one-star general, having earned numerous military awards. As an actor...simply superb. Always very humble in his numerous TV appearances. To be sure,..a role model. RIP.

  • I love Jimmy.

He is one of the all-time greats.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • I LOVE his performances opposite the beautiful, Kim Novak, in "Vertigo", and, "Bell, Book, and Candle: (both 1958). Check these movies out, their great!!!

  • LEGENDARY!

  • Jimmy sure was one of the greatest!!!! only one that could hold his own againts Duke Wayne!

  • To be apart of the 8th air force is really something

  • Can you imagine how awful a current What's My Line would Be?

  • @bertmustin there wouldnt be any contestents...all the stars in the world are dead.

  • @omarskats3000

    you are so right!!!

maybe just Barbra Streisand..... the rest are so trashy....

  • @bertmustin oh jeezus ;~;

  • @bertmustin I agree! The days of grace and class are gone.

  • @bertmustin

... yes, I would hate to imagine. It would become trash like almost everything Hollywood spews out today.

  • rest his kind soul

  • okay something has been bugging ever since I watched it's a wonderful life when i was a kid and I've been dying to know if anyone else thinks the same thing. . . but have you ever noticed how closely Nicolas cage's voice resembles Jimmy Stewart's!?!?!

  • Jimmy had more class than a dozen of today's actors combined.

  • Beautifully said, Great2C

  • Jimmy Stewart was also the real name of the British actor know as Stewart Granger.

  • Dorothy looks cute here.

  • He's My Hero

  • It is rather remarkable that almost every major male star of the forties under the age of fifty served in WWII - Stewart, Henry Fonda, Clark Gable,Mickey Rooney,Robert Montgomery,David Niven,Victor Mature - as well as so many professional athletes. A different world.

  • I cry everytime I think of him..An awesome man

  • I had the pleasure of working with him in two movies: "Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation" and 'Take Her She's Mine". You can look me up, my name is Peter Oliphant. And, yes, he was a wonderful and amazingly friendly man. When doing 'Hobbs', at Christmas he was leaving his dressing room when he saw me, and realized he hadn't gotten me a gift. He went back in, and gave me (my parents) a wrapped bottle of scotch! I was 6 years old at the time... :)

  • Jimmy Stewart was much better than Cary Grant was

  • @92af

I dunno know about that. They were both great in their own way. But strictly as an actor, yes, Stewart was one of the very best.

  • Some people may just have a crush on Jimmy Stewart, but I'm madly in love with him. He is the greatest actor ever. He is absolutely adorable.

  • surely you would be able to recognise that voice straight away even with the "mmmmmmmmyes"

  • Bennett knew at 1min. that it was Jimmy Stewart.

  • he is held in high regard in the uk for being a gentleman and for his part in WW2

  • my husband got me to start watching some of his movies and I'm now hooked on Jimmy Stewart! I've got a crush on him, what can I say? lol. I loved "Shop Around the Corner." He was one of the best actors ever and from what I've heard about him, a great man of integrity and character. You won't find many like him today.

  • Hahaha! He just couldn't hide that distinctive voice of his! What a wonderful person!

  • They should have known who this was at 0:41.

  • a great man, who did his duty during ww2. oh! nearly forgot, he was a great actor too.

this christmas my wife and i were babysitting and watched "its a wonderfull life" right through. what a buzz.

  • @MrJimmyboy1972 Not only that, but he was a commissioned General in the USAF Reserves to the very end. And not just a celebrity officer, he was a contributing decision-maker until he was physically unable to serve.

  • greatest actor of all time and an even better human being

  • james stewert was the best!

  • A class act.

  • He lived up the street from a friend of mine in Beverly Hills. He'd walk his dogs every night and drop in to visit.

  • My dad does a hilarious Jimmy Stewart stutter! LOL dad!

  • In the beginning:

IT SAYS JIMMY STEWART! WHY DOES THE SUBTITLE SAY JAMES STEWART?????

  • I wish they would have interviewed him more in his early days, I believe it would have been more interesting

  • Great American! He retired a Brigadier General in the Air Force Reserve. He rarely spoke about the fact that he flew as a pilot in the 8th Army Air Force during WWII and completed his 20 missions.

  • @DrRobertMPick And he had Og Mandino along with him in his crew. In one of Og's many books he writes about it.

  • love this show jimmy stewart one of my fav actor

  • Stewart couldn't disguise his voice! Unlike Charlton Heston, at least he tried. What a great, great actor he was. I was surprised that he signed in as "Jimmy."

  • I miss him!

  • jimmy stewart was a christian, he's someone i look up to!

  • @alanacarr was he really

  • He was a Class Act!

  • When TV had class and the money was great!

  • my favorite actor

  • his voice is too obvious imho

  • wonderful person, overated a ctor.... he never made u forget it was jimmy stewart playin someone..!

  • @arlichar11

He wasn't able to make you forget it was him. But he was most centainly able to provoke emotion in a way very few actors can

  • If Jimmy Stewarts' in a movie you know your going to get quality.

  • Who DOESN'T love Jimmy?

  • One of my favorite actors. I love Jimmy Stewart!

  • I was surprised to see that he signed in as "Jimmy" Stewart. So often people hate their nickname. Abraham Lincoln detested "Abe" and Theodore Roosevelt loathed "Teddy," for example, but I guess Stewart liked "Jimmy."

  • i want to marry this man.

  • Heh the one guy asking if his first name would be "Issur" was referring to Kirk Douglas who's real first name was Issur.

  • every time i have a bad day. jimmy cheers me up. his spirt, the way he presents himself. just having a overwheliming vibe just to hard to describe truly would b a understatement. wanna b just like him, having the much impact on ppl. truly my favorite actor of all time

  • lol his voice is pretty recognizable!

  • The look on Bennett's face after he asked if he was an actor for a long time is pricelessly smug, haha!

  • Every single Mystery Guest segment of WML I've seen involves the first panelist essentially saying, "Wow, you got a lot of applause, you must be a famous entertainer". Imagine that!

  • you can see arlene and bennett have it after their first questions. =D

  • his voice is so hard to disguise.....i luv him

  • He is versatile actor. Jimmy is very rare gem in this world. He has been my favorite actor since I saw its a wonderful life. With every performance I see him in he never disappoints me. I would have loved to meet him. I love his voice. I think that it was great thing he waited to marry the love of his life.

  • hahahaha.. 1:34 that is so typical Jimmy Stewart. " no, no"

What a great actor he was.

  • Talk about a "class act"! You'll NEVER see another like him or his kind.

  • oh my gosh, i LOVE him. beautiful man! :) :) :)

  • Jimmy Stewart was simply one of the best...great actor, yes. But, also a great man of strong character and principles. Devoted to his wife, family, friends, profession, and fans.

  • not many folks know he was a member of the mighty eighth in WWII. he was part of a bomber crew that flew in the European theater.

  • LOL he had to disguise his voice because it's so well-known

  • I WANT THAT CHALKBOARD!!!

  • I love watching anything Jimmy Stewart played in

  • when is this from?

  • Hmmm...looks like you take the word of ONE man whose word is probably suspect. Jimmy worked with numerous black actors and none of THEM said that. Ever consider the fact that the man may have been fired for other reasons and chose to say that out of spite?

  • When Stewart was a colonel, my grandpa was his favorite driver; when grandpa finally recognized him, he invited him home to supper; grandma was a big fan; grandpa surprised her. They had a great evening with a great star and gentleman.

  • Mr. Stewart enlisted in WW2, flew combat missions in Europe. He's a hero. His son was KIA in Vietnam..Stewart, a Brig. General, with his connections could have kept his son safe from the war..but he did not use his influence.

  • He also refused to let hollywood exploit his service record or hold any parades for him . He flew himself home without any fanfare and flew 1 bombing mission in Vietnam.

  • I never knew about his bombing mission in Vietnam. They don't make them like Stewart anymore. Check out Stewart and his wife and twin daughters on Password (on You Tube)..utterly charming!

  • You know what I don't understand. I got negative marks for simply asking a question that I stated I hoped wasn't true, and yet the person making a remark about Mr Stewart hanging a black man in his backyard, hasn't gotten one negative remark. What's wrong with this picture.?

  • first time I heard that. people can make any charge though I suppose.

  • It would be nice if I had Jimmy Stewart in my life everyday!

  • ???

  • A truly great actor who was humble and gracious. A real life hero in WW2 (he retired as a General). Only one wife who he adored. Never involved in scandal and bad behavior . What in the world was he doing in Hollywood with all those nuts?

  • yeah, he was in the air corps. I know a man in Ohio that served under him. He said that Jimmy spent alot of time during the war drinking at the bar, remembering people that died under him, was very interesting hearing him relate his stories about Mr. Stewart.

  • lol it was so hard to disguise his voice, its so distinguishable.

  • One thing that I noticed is how the ladies stayed seated while the men stood. How I wish such etiquette was still around today.

Great man, great star, greatly missed.

  • @rick67hou seriously! i totally agree, hard to find perfect gentlemen these days :/

  • Well, it comes from both sides, some ladies don't know how to behave properly either. Such rules of formality weren't just delegated solely to those of means, but those that were of more modest means. Perhaps a class in school should be dedicated just on this alone.

  • yeah, that's totally true, i mean that show Jersey Shore alone ........

  • Don't get me started on JS. But few people will teach etiquette to their kids.

  • 00:50 the girls crack a smile. THEY KNOW IT'S JIMMY!

  • What a loud , long OVATION !!!

  • What a wonderfully nice man he was!

  • Wouldn't it be nice if everybody had a Jimmy Stewart in their life?! :D I love him. What a sweetheart.

  • simply a legend...........I lived near Indiana, Pa where he grew up.

Just about everything there is named after him and you can't go in any restrurant without seeing a picture of him on the wall while he visited that place.

and all of it deserving from this hollywood icon and real life war hero........

  • ahaha it must be hard to disguise that voice! i just love it.

  • i love this show 4 all the amazing guests..

but its obvious its a famous person.and much easier since there voices are so recognisable what s the point! always same questions , i guess back then they didnt have any better ideas for game shows...o well..

  • It's more a mean for publicity - like a new film.

  • ok that makes more sense

  • A wonderful, adorable man, and the icon of my favorite actor - Alan Rickman.

  • You can tell by his facial impressions that he wasn't happy with that movie

  • haha he voice would give him away in a heartbeat!

  • Simply adorable!

  • James Stewart was an awesome actor

  • Jimmy Stewart obviously was one of those human beings who are so kind and gentle that it's almost too good to be true. But it is true -- people like him really exist also today and that makes one (sorry if it gets a little camp now) still believe in the good in humankind. So if one should ever get distressed by all the terrible things committed by human beings worldwide -- one should have a look at videos like this to remind oneself that not all human beings are bad.

  • @Great2C HE AS A ONDERFUL HUMAN BEING

  • @Great2C Right on!

  • @Great2C it ain't camp to say it's important to believe in humanity -- its such an attitude that people an governments should be concerned with.... rather than some vauge attempt to completely irradicate all prejudice.

on topic however this show just shows how much better famous people were better way back when - if they ran this same show now it wouldn't be close to being worthwile

  • @Great2C - Well Said. Looking at videos like this is an emotional vacation and also reminds us all that fame and glory do not always corrupt. Mr. Stewart is one of my all time favorites. And, you're right about the positive emotional value of looking at clips like this. Best Wishes to You.

  • one of hollywood's greatest actors. And a true American hero!!

  • jimmy was very very sweet :) Wasn't he?

  • @substitute91 Yes,he was.He's missed.

  • What an incredible man James Stewart was....

  • haha, the first "yesh" totally gave it away :)

  • Jimmy cant hide that voice no matter how he tries

  • I know!

  • Cerf had him pegged after question2.

  • The brunette woman always guesses correctly. I've never seen anyone else guess correctly.

  • Cerf had a great ear--but he hardly needed it in this one!

  • i find something sooooo...hmmm whats that word? O YA!! something SEXY about Mr. Stewarts voice.....*sigh*

  • LOL! I can't think of a worse guest for this game than Jimmy Stewart! He had one of the most (if not the most) recognizable voices in Hollywood.

  • This was FAR too easy! That voice is unmistakable.

  • One thing I like about old shows like this is that we can see all the old stars of long ago before their twilight years. Jimmy Stewart I had seen on Carson et al for years, but by the late 1970s and 80s he was getting on quite a bit. Nice to see him at a time when he still has stride in his walk.

  • Jimmy Stewart is the best. A great star, a true good person and a war hero. Stewart famously hated killing and seeing friends that he made die, the war affected him greatly and he rarely talked about it. He didn't do as many light-hearted pictures after the war, but he fought because it was his civic duty. A great, great man.

  • I'm 32 and I really feel as though I missed out one heck of a time to be alive.

I'd so love to move the hands of time backwards to a time when Hollywood stars would still serve as "reserves" because I assume it was the patriotic thing to do.

Say hi to Clarence for me George.

  • And Harvey can come visit me anytime...

  • Can you believe somebody tore down his Hollywood home ? Is nothing sacred?

  • doesnt surprise me they tear down everything out here no one cares whose house it was...sad

  • Hard for him to hide behind that ever-distinctive voice of his. Love Jimmy Stewart so much. Thanks for this.

  • You gotta love Jimmy Stewart.

  • Jimmy, you are so mmm good! James Maitland Stewart. 'Nuf said.

  • nice penmanship mr stewart!

  • <3 Jimmy!!! I love him! I would have died if I were on that show.

  • How could you not know that voice. : )

  • I would have known it was him just from his first answer.

  • Such a "class act"!

  • Thank you for posting this. This show is a classic.

  • You could tell by his expression that Cerf got his voice right away.. Not a good

    disguise

  • He's The Guy. 'Nuff said.

  • One of my fav actors!

  • Jimmy Stewart....long time no see!

  • Jimmy Stewart was one of the nicest filmstars ever to the public.

    Thanks for showing.

Till he went ill, he walked every day to the film studios just to meet the general public on the street.

  • ''MmmMmmMMMmm Yes." LMFAO

  • How appropriate that my all-time favorite comedian (Jack Benny) and my all-time favorite actor (Jimmy Stewart) appear right next to each other in Youtube's list of WML clips. Both gentlemen are so likeable!

  • Sexy voice. (the real one, at least!)

  • when a guy like jimmie stammers and stutters in his films and impersonators stammers; he shouldn't have used that tecxhnique
