  • This classic by Vince Guaraldi and "Ame Caline" by Michel Polnareff are quite possibly the two greatest songs ever written in my little world! :D

  • This song goes places! Pretty fuckin tight, and that's from a guy who likes his music heavy.

  • Classic. I' grew up a Peanuts fan. You cannot be a Peanuts fan & don't know Vince Guaraldi's music.

  • 1 person has absolutely no clue what good music sounds like. This is one of the all-time greatest records in any genre of music.

  • I saw Vince one time when I was a kid at Mac's Tea room in Los Altos, Ca...what a great style..

  • Heard this on XM Sixties last night. Remembered having the single back in the day, as well as a single by Stan Getz titled "Fly Me to the Moon/ Desafinado" . It would be great if someone posted that song.

  • Why would anyone dislike this song? It's Vince Guaraldi! Such an immense talent, and I agree that his music always had a lovely, haunting quality. His mustache alone is a good reason for liking this!

  • the In Crowd. the good one! not the crappy (IMHO) 2000s version . a good move where many of it's soft tones come from.

  • This song makes me feel hopeful about life! LOL

  • great original :)

  • I had the single of this when I was a kid of about ten. I guess I must have had good taste back then (too bad)!

  • The Bomber!

  • @HonkIfYouLoveHonking I always thought the part of the song "The Bomber" that is taken from this was so brilliant now I know it wasn't the brilliance of Joe Walsh.

  • @HonkIfYouLoveHonking You are commended for now giving credit where credit is due. Music is about a kaleidoscope of originality, yet also comprised of lifted snippets from other music. The trick is not to lift too much, as most of the samplers do. Do you recognize this as the music of all the Charlie Brown specials? Vince was the beast of his day. My channel is an 800 playlist tribute to a century of music. Stop by & hear ALL the originals. link to my 1963 list is below. chuck

  • @chkjns Yes I knew this is from the same composer as featured in the Charley Brown specials. Even if I hadn't I'm sure I would have instantly recognized it as so. He has a very distinctive style..

  • No other Jazz Composer/Musician has touched my Soul Like Vince Guaraldi

Vince was truthfully a journeyman explorer of Jazz.............................

Ironically, he died on stage in San Francisco in the middle of his version, of " Elenore Rigby "

  • Rips my guts out every time... just so shockingly haunting it makes me look into myself, deeply.

  • Guaraldi had an entirely unique piano style. Not too many jazzmen can be id immediately from their playing.

  • could never tire of playing this. First tune I ever played at my first solo gig--thanks Vince Guaraldi--always could remember you when nothing else came to mind. he rescued me so many times over the years. Amazing tune! LOVE IT

  • The anniversary song for myself and my husband. At the time of this comment, my husband and I have been married 20 years.

  • i did my jazz dance recital to this song. :) it was awesome. :D

  • I've listened to this song 5 times in a row, and I have no plans on stopping anytime soon.

  • Man... Someone once listened to this and said, "You know what this would be great in? A kids' cartoon." And he was freakin' right. That's vision.

  • A beautiful composition ... period.

  • He had more talent in his mustache than 90% of performers today combined.

  • Vince Guaraldi was a musical genius who left too soon. But he left so much wonderful music.

  • It sure sounds like they jump the timing in the 9th measure, (5th measure after the 4 bar intro). Only give it 3 beats. They do the same thing later. I guess in jazz you can put as many beats in a measure as you like, but... that ain't the way he shows it in his sheet music. Sorry.

  • @Billnn54 It makes it soooooo hard to play! I couldn't figure it out until you said this -- finally I understand why the sheet music sounds so bad (and George Winston's version makes me cringe).

  • believe it or not, rock guitarist Joe Walsh does an excellent job with this song coupled with a tune called "The Bomber" on one of his first LP's back in 1970...check it out sometime.

  • This is such a timeless piece evoking fond memories. What an emotional time capsule.

  • I have spent hours listening to covers of this song. I have yet to find one that even approaches the feel and swing of this. My other favorite, What Child Is This, also by Mr. Guaraldi. American Treasures.

  • The beautiful thing about YouTube is that it reveals a global community of appreciation for exquisite '60s compositions like this. I always thought "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" was a sublime piece of work. It's affirming to see so many others entranced by it, too.

  • Always such a superb tune to listen to, this song has just made my Saturday night a most enjoyable moment. And to think, when this record came out there was no internet, no FaceBook, no cel phones, etc. If you wanted to see a movie you went to a cinema. I'd trade all of this hi-tech nonsense for the old days... in a heart beat!

  • Another version of this had a comment about the carefree sunny feeling of this song.

That feeling is the soul of Vince Guaraldi ! ! !

  • Catman 916, r u from Calumet Park area? I know you.

  • @Junieann1 No I am not from Calumet Park and we probably do not know each other.

  • @catman916 Are you from upstate NY? I think I met you at that coffeehouse in Woodstock, NY. Right?

  • @HunterMann I am not from upstate and have not been to Woodstock.

  • @catman916

Are you aren't from Ithaca? haha just kidding.

  • @Junieann1 What is wrong with you?

  • I remember this as a child. wow, how time has flown. Thanks for the post.

  • Another musical genius taken from us way too early.

  • a touch of genius

  • Cd booklet in A Charlie Brown Christmas brought me here. Very, very nice! =)

  • @juliadennehy LOLOL! Me too! :-D ... but many many moons ago. :-)

  • @MelodyExtremus I just ordered THREE cd's by Vince today on b&n. Stuck inside by a snowstorm and listening to Charlie Brown Christmas, even though Christmas is over - that was telling me it's a no brainer to order a few cd's by Vince to get me through the year until NEXT Christmas! =) I'm sorry I did not discover his beautiful music sooner! Hope you had a nice holiday season! - J

  • @juliadennehy Isn't it great stuff? I purchased several from B&G eons ago. I have to learn "Cast your fate to the wind" on piano yet, but used to do "Linus & Lucy" on piano - with several variations, keychanges and my own B section thrown in the middle. Vince is just as wonderful and fun to play as he is to listen to. Hope you had a great Holiday season too! :-D

  • @MelodyExtremus Finally got my cd's today - perfect music for a Friday evening - great stuff for sure! =) Have you posted any of your music on yt? Would like to hear!

  • @juliadennehy

:-) Great that you're enjoying them! I always liked Guaraldi! :-D

I probably will download eventually, but totally incognito, which is not to say I have or haven't. :-) Word has way of getting around on youtube even inadvertently. I guess I just developed a mental block against downloading on Utube from my non-musical experiences. Some really nice people, and some reeeaaaally straaaaaaaange people. Let's just say I'm keeping my mouth and music separate. For now, anyway.

  • I try not to listen to this very often because I never want to tire of it.

Every time I hear it I imagine a time where everything seemed possible, where beauty and joy and hope was never far away.

    Timeless, gorgeous, inspirational..

  • @zhandoatosl I agree, what's not to like. Definately takes me back to better days

  • I had the hugest crush on him when I was about 6 or 7. I thought he was the hippest coolest cat ever! But, I also had a crush on Gomez Addams as well, so that explains a lot!

  • his music hasn't aged atall...

  • He reminds me of Gomez Addams...

  • I love his work with Bola Sete best.

  • REALLY....I never ever knew who wrote this.....

  • listen also to the Version from " Apollo 100 "

  • @wambui37 And by Sounds Orchestral ! wow

  • @fanchbrezoneg oh yes

  • Everything everyone says about Vince Guaraldi is true, especially this about his extraordinary work on the Peanuts Specials: "Cry for joy that Vince introduced jazz to half a billion folks who might not otherwise have heard it ! !"

  • O Mann- among the greatest things to ever come out of the instrument.

A month of years a week of days, i set my sail as the tide comes in and i just cast my fate to the wind....

Lyrics were also genius-- trances me evry time, never tires, sooo much mood !

  • Excellent song man.

  • there is tons of great music, art, etc out there, like vince,,it will always be out there, but we must be open minded to find it,,,,,cheers vince

  • love that west coast sound...

  • One of my all time favorite instrumentals done by one of my favorite pianists.

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • OUTSTANDING!!!!

  • Great song. I actually get chills when I listen to it.

Thanks so much for the post.

  • He was a extraordinary talent... probably getting more (richly deserved) recognition posthumously.

  • Great photo montage. Yeah, he is pretty under...? Under-recognized? Known as the guy who wrote Charlie Brown music. Man, there's a lot more to it than that.

  • This is so mesmerizing

  • Love it now and loved it then.

  • Wow, very nice. Great sound quality. Nice photo compilation.

  • Thank you.

  • Probably one of the most under-rated (or at least forgotten about) jazz pianist and composer.

  • Very true!!

  • @Drumminsean

From what I have read, he was dissed as "that guy who composes for cartoons." Anyone who hears any of his music -- especially this one -- should see the genius he was.

I don't know whether to cry for his ill-earned fate (thank God later corrected bud sadly post-mortem) or to trumpet his musical triumphs (which should have been evident to all).

  • @freedumb2003 - I hate to be overly blunt, but anyone who disses good music just because it happens to be associated with cartoons, is a fool. Cry for joy that Vince introduced jazz to half a billion folks who might not otherwise have heard it ! !

Vince's genius is in no way diminished by his Charlie Brown work. I'm certain it's solely Vince's music that created the smokin' success of the CB franchise & THAT is a laudable thing ! ! ! The cartoons all show his name & are a memorial to his talent.

  • @chkjns - Go to Vince's website & read his biography. THEN come back & leave a comment.

My tribute to great musicians is an ever-expanding music history channel with over 500 playlists so far. They feature most genres & span the globe. 111 lists let you hear the music of any year since 1900 as if you've stepped back in time, like 1962 for this song. Vince is one of my top heroes in the music world. He & 300 other artists each have separate playlists on my channel. CB made Vince immortal.

  • @Drumminsean no any pianist will tell you he isone of the grandfathers of jazz music-hes simply a legend

  • @Drumminsean I'd go as far as to say he's probably one of the greatest unsung composers of the 20th century! He had the near perfect balance of catchy melodies and intricate improvisation that if you ask me, none of his proteges, for lack of a better work, can match. RIP Vince Guaraldi.

  • Vince was cool way back when, and still is today.

  • lovely
