Love this! My own first exposure to the durian resulted from my tendency to try food about which I know nothing. Okay, so my friend sits down with his own hamburger and hands me the durian slushy I'd requested. Snacking commences.

Me: Is there onion on that hamburger?

Him: No. (Gives me odd look)

Me: Amazing! Because I can smell it so strongly that this drink actually...tastes...like onion!

Him: Yes, I'm sure. No onion whatsoever.

Long pause.

(I make a very unhappy face indeed)

That jack fruit is a cut-up from whole green fruit, which is not commonly eaten but for cooking. Taste the fresh ride one.

You are eating the wrong part of the jackfruit.... that is not the flesh but the case.

durian is good, very yummy. Luckily I live in Indonesia now and you get a lots of Durian here. The best ones are the Durian Mon Thong

I bought a fresh (rather than frozen) durian once. My car smelled for weeks! Although there are more vivid elements to the flavor versus the frozen durians I usually buy, I don't want to put up with the strong lingering odor in the car and the house again. BTW,

fresh ripe jackfruit is wonderful (the whole fruit does emit a strong but pleasant odor). Green jackfruit is for cooking, for example with coconut milk like a curry.
