Go and buy their recordings on newly pressed audiophile LP's or search Ebay for vintage 4 track reel to reel versions. Stay away from the CD releases!! I bought two and both are truely crap! High distotion with a gritty-tinny sound quality. (I hate CD's). Stick with analog. Warner studio releases, like Reprise era, were not top audiophile pressings but they're way better that the digital remixes of today.
This is great milestone song for me.. I am 60 years now, and I relate my love to such western music thanks to this song ! I learnt to sing .. thanks to this song.. will always be grateful to this trio .. may the tribe always increase !
You can listen to these songs over and over again and they never seem to age with time. Most of them were sung before my birth and yet 31yrs after I still listen to them. Speechless :-)
If you like Mary Travers check out her with Joni Mitchell and mama kasson you tube SONG NAME IS I SHALL BE RELEASED....GREAT COMBO.THREE OF THE BEST FEMALE SINGERS FROM THE 60'S.
Funny about this song: it was a B-side and charted unevenly, but it was the one popularized by this group that everyone knew at sleepaway camp when I was 12 (although I guess "Where Have All The Flowers Gone" comes in second). It is also the one that, especially in this original version, epitomizes the group and Mary Travers to me. When I think, "Peter Paul and Mary," this is what I think of.
I'm 62. It's songs and groups like this in the past that for not, is one of the reasons I don't listen to the American Idol crap music of today with their sickening vibrato's and off key screaming vocals.
I listen to vintage LP's & record them onto reel to reel tape. Old school?..you bet!!
@amceagle1 Just a side, she's singing in vibrato...it's possible to sing without, Annie Haslam does it quite often watch?v=nTI1oP762rw if you notice the voice she's literally emulating the tone a bell makes. With vibrato it allows the singer to hold a note longer with less effort, hear how her voice in this is "wavering" a bit, that's vibrato. Nothing wrong with it of course, it's a standard vocal technique...I think you may be thinking of an auto-tuner which fixes off key notes.
Feel so incredibly far from home now... actually, I am at home but, I presume it doesn't matter :-)

"and i would walk 500 miles.just be the man who walked a thousand miles to fall down at your door"

One of the benefits of being 60 next year is that they were the one of the sounds of my youth. I could listen to this song forever!
