Very cool. I tried to take video with my little camera too. I couldn't stop futzing with the manual controls trying to get a better shot. 2 of our next door neighbors came out near totality sparking a small impromptu gathering in the wee hours.
Best one of the eclipse that I found so far. Thank you for using a TRIPOD! I live in New england, got up at 2:30 and stayed up until 4 but it was too cloudy. It also happened to be my birthday. So thank you for shooting and sharing this!
you took all this time in your life to make a video that could have been great. You must have planned doing it and spent hours out there recording the footage. Only to use a usless camera that displays a usless online video.
@MrDYNAMO14 Yes, it's basically the moon moving behind us and having the sun in front of us. As the moon orbits us/we rotate it makes the shadow come and go.
We didn't get to see last night's Solstice eclipse due to being in the midst of a snowstorm and full cloud cover, so I really appreciate having this chance to have seen it. Would have been even more awesome set to better music..."Dark Side of the Moon" comes to mind, but then you might have had copyright problems, so I just viewed it whilst listening to my CD ;) Thanks for sharing this!
@ArielleNaMara I'm glad you like it and got to see it. I don't like using well known music because they will and do get you for copyright and can pull the video. They don't always pull it, but it can happen. Also that song is too long for the video.
@3salamanders Just a Canon camera and a tripod. The music is from Incubus they are instrumentals that came with the Look Alive DVD, I believe. The first is called Midnight Swim and the other is called Soft Sculpture. They have one on that album called Pathogens of Wormy Interludes that's great, but it's about 8 mins, way too long for this.
I immortalized it on my blog, I hope you don`t mind. Will add your name under it. And it`s probably the only possibility for me to see it, because I live in Germany, and it`s very cloudy here, so thank you very much, once again.
Wishing you a happy Solstice and Winter Holidays like Christmas and so on.
@AnAverageSkeptic that damn moon just won't stand still. will it? thanks, i was sleeping, i wanted to see it but i didn't wake up. we had a perfect cloud free night here in florida, but the 12 pak of beer prevented me from viewing it first hand. thanks again.
@KickYouInTheThroat Thanks. The songs are instrumentals that Incubus did on their album Look Alive. These two are called Midnight Swim and Soft Sculpture.
I watched this event in Huddersfeild England. Freeezing cold morning -9 clear sky soon forgot about the cold. ONCE IN A LIFE TIME EVENT.

@AnAverageSkeptic Incubus!! I knew I knew that sound. Thought for a moment they might be obscure Porcupine Tree tracks. Nice selection. :)

@mokus1962 Glad you enjoyed it. I froze making it, that's the only reason I didn't film the 2nd half plus it was getting really late.

@newcoleco We got lucky and it was completely clear here. When the eclipse was full I could see the meteor showers. It was amazing.
