  • hmmm neo geo or ps vita...i dont know.........

  • GameGear PORT!

  • sonic's hair is like the style he had in the ova

  • like sonic 2?

ITS SONIC 2, WITH LOW DEFINITION AND SONIC 3 AND KNUCKLES MUSICS =P

  • did this game existed in europe??

  • @KaxiLaxi Sega and NeoGeo teamed up for a few things in this time. The Neo Geo Pocket Color (which this game is for) actually has a link cable to the Sega Dreamcast. You can unlock certain things on "sister games"

  • this was not an official game right?

  • @KaxiLaxi official

  • sonic 4? lol

  • 1:52 Is like Sonic Rush!

  • @jordeeboy123 u mean like sonic 2?

  • @jordeeboy123 Like Sonic 2... :P

  • u r a pro at this game

  • ear rape

  • ear rape

  • aT 0:00 WTH

  • OMG! SNK made Sega released a long lost Sonic Game Gear game with elements from Sonic 1-3. AHHHHH! Brilliant. :D

  • MY EARS!

  • @Megabine you aint the only one with ear problems lol

  • @tommylambert WHAT!? I CANT EAR YOU!

  • @Megabine LOL I CANT EAR U LOL U MEAN I CANT HEAR U U MUST BE DEAF LOL

  • Neo Geo does what Nintendon't!

  • Why is the sound quality so bad?

  • this game is the reason to buy a neogeo pocket color handheld.

  • this system was realy cool howd the company die off?

  • the sound is horrible. is this emulated, or is that the way it really sounds?

  • @17R3W Emulated. The music on the actual console is far better.

  • @KatziiYataki

    okay.... Good.

  • 2:45 fire flower?????

  • This game is essentially what sonic 4 episode 1 was trying to be, a game that reimagines the old zones from the old games, paying tribute to them with the similar backdrops and gimmicks, but differences in level design and some new in level gimmicks of its own.

The only difference is that this game got the physics right and plays like a sonic game. Amazing that sega/dimps in 2010 couldn't program the physics for a game better than they did on a neo geo pocket game 20 years ago, crazy.

  • classic graphics + sonic advanced + sonic 2 = sonic pocket adventure

  • 1:48 awesome face XD

  • This absolutely owns the GBC. Why did this end up failing?

  • @PIEDol The company was bought out. Also you have to take into account the Pokemon craze that was going on at the time and the anticipation of the Game Boy Advance. However, it did do better than the Game Boy's previous competitors.

  • the level layout and physics in this look better than sonic 4-_-

  • love the classic music! gotta grab a neo geo :)

  • graphic wise since this is a 16 bit console the graphics just suck my ass... lol

  • Doesn't look bad, but that does NOT look 16 bit.

  • @JerrytheYTPer but think, the gba was 32 bit, and that doesnt look as good as ps1

  • So Emulator-E

  • huh sonics sprite looks like the anime movie sonic

  • NGPC is still the boss handheld! All other handhelds will kneel before it!

  • The Neo Geo Pocket had a wicked thumb stick. Cool machine back in the day.

  • Better then Sonic Advance! ^_^

  • You ever noticed that the "Neo South Island" theme is the same as was in the 3D portion of "Sonic Jam"? Pretty neat!

  • S.E.G.A!

  • IGN gave this a 10 0_o

  • (w/ chris griffen's voice)" WHAAAAAAAAT?

  • I don't think this game is better than the origional 3

  • This game is kinda like Sonic 1,2,3 and Sonic and Knuckles put together in a way.

  • it seems like it has something from almost every soninc game that came before it.

  • Some things I noticed in Sonic Pocket Adventure..

    1. The music in "Neo South Island" is from Sonic Jam when you roam around in 3D.

    2. The stage select is similar to that of Sonic Jam as well...

  • Awesome!!

  • comparing it to the EARLY gameboy color (1998) yeah it beats it but comparing to the gameboy color when pokemon G/S/C came out (2000) when developers started to use it's proccesor more then no

  • hey sonic 1 2 3 in one game

  • SEGAAAAA!!!!!!!

  • yea, the first sonic 2D with Skinny hip sonic!

  • @LilSkott I always like the "fat" sonic better hehe, Somehow was funnier in a way, and still not a bad design at all :).

  • @DehnusNorder i guess, i just remember when he first came out on the dreamcast he was all skinny and i was like WOA! he looks so much cooler!

  • @LilSkott Sonic's always been hip. And the in-game Sonic looks just like the Gamegear/Master System one did in the 8-bit versions of Sonic 1. Not to mention the graphics and sound is similar to Gamegear/Master System...

  • damn I wish I had this shit back in the day

  • shame, the graphics are wonderful, but the sound is terrible XD

  • The graphics are wonderful?

Well, given the limitations of the screen, I guess that's fair to say. This was a pretty low resolution device.

  • 16 bit my ass!

  • I Just Won a NGPC Off Ebay For About 30 Bucks!

Unfortunately, SPA Didn't Come With It. What Did Come With It Was Metal Slug 1 and Baseball.

  • when i play this on my laptop it has no sound

  • never saw a gameboy color do this! actually it even plays a little better than this is displayed! ive played it its soooo fun

  • its neo geo pocket color

  • yes i know im comparing it to game boy color. this is way better

  • i got the carttridge but i dont have a ngpc lol

  • nice work man

  • I tried this via emu on my GBMicro but it was too slow! grr... Still a novelty to play this rare sonic release. Diggin the 8bit renditions of sonic3 songs!

  • COOL

  • wow this is a lot like sonic 2 lol

  • and sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles

  • @domowinter2 Yeah it looks like Sonic 2 but it's title screen music is Sonic 3 with some Sonic and knuckles in there too lol

  • Anyway, my point wasn't to say that the Neo Geo Pocket Color was utter shit.

I was just answering to a comment that said that only recently an handheld has been able to show games that are technically equal, or superior, to those that Neo Geo Pocket Color had.

I answered that it isn't true, the Lynx was able to do better.

The Nomad was (if you consider it an handheld).

    The Game Boy Advance was.

I love how posting a casual fact just for chatting purpose always lead to hate trains on the web. :)

  • As I have no love for the NGPC, it doesn't matter to me if you like it or not, and as such there is no hate train because I'm not defending the console. My original point rests squarely on the Lynx being the only machine capable of (rudimentary) 3D graphics, alone, for over a decade until the more recent handhelds came along. The GBA leans towards having actual low tech 3D engines, but it wasn't the first console since the Lynx to have any form of 3D capabilities, hardware or software wise.

  • I didn't consider handhelds derived from home consoles like Nomad or Turbo express.

    Whatever.

Again, my point wasn't to glorify the Lynx, i was just answering to a comment saying that NO OTHER handheld was technically better then NGPC until current gen.

I used the Lynx as example, TE or Nomad could fit too.

  • I didn't see that comment, but I can agree. I didn't find the NGPC to particulary spectacular, though I will admit it had a few pretty decent games on it. If I remember, it was marketed as a 16bit system, but coming from SNES and Genesis, it sure didn't feel like one; especially in regards to it's sound capabilities.

Then again, I had the same feeling for the GBA. It was 32 bit, but came across to me as a 16 bit system like the SNES. Very similar if lacking in the audio dept in comparison.

  • I completely agree.

Actually, the 'number of bits' stuff has always been overrated.

The number itself isn't very revealing about the hardware capabilities.

    Think about the Atari Jaguar.

I remember when it came out, it was heavily marketed as the first console to have 64 bits.

    It sucked.

If you look at the number of visible colors on screen, or the number of sprites the console is capable of drawing at the same time, those are real specs. Having 16 bits it's like saying 'it's got electrolytes'.

  • this was a good game

  • It's amazing that a handheld from 10 years ago was able to do this, something that was only(somwhat)recently been able to be done.

  • Uh...not really. The Atari Lynx had better graphics then Neo Geo Pocket Color 9 years before it...

And it was able to do 3D graphics too, something you had to wait current gen handhelds to see again.

  • The Atari Lynx's 3D was so rudimentary and crappy, that it practically doesn't count. It most certainly is nowhere near what the PSP and DS are capable of, and even the GBA outperforms it in that regard.

Just because it could supposedly do 3D, doesn't mean anything when you consider how crappy they were.

  • Ahem...

    Atari Lynx->1989

    Game Boy Advance->2001

It would be a shame if in TWELVE years they weren't able to do something better.

Still, the Lynx outperforms handhelds that came out 10 years after...

  • No, your comment said we had to wait until current gen hardware to see Atari Lynx graphics again. Point is, if that were true, then the PSP, DS, and even the GBA would have been considerably weaker than they are now. Also, the Lynx did not do true 3D graphics, hence my reason for mentioning the GBA. You also recieved short battery life for the sub par presentation. Totally not worth it.

  • Also, if we want to use the 10 year span from when the Lynx was released, we can toss the Nomad in there. Another system with crappy battery life, but you got so much more than the Lynx could offer, both in games, their quality, and the performance of the hardware. If I'm going to pick crap, I'll go with what stinks less.

  • The Nomad was an evolution of the Sega Mega-Jet, therefore a modified version of the Sega Mega Drive itself, not a true handheld console (remember it used the large Mega Drive cartridges). None the less, you have a point there. The Nomad was a great handheld, if you consider it an handheld.

About the battery life, a PSP 3000 has a 5 hrs battery life. Atari Lynx? 5 hrs. Sega Nomad? 3 to 5 hrs.

The only difference is that Ni-MH recheargeable batteries were not commonly used until recently.

  • It was a console that was handheld, used removeable media, and could be played anywhere. It most certainly counts, just as the Turbo Express did. (Merely a portable of the TG-16/PC-Engine) The PSP 2k and 3k get well over 5 hours battery life, much closer to 7 with standard battery, and approaching 15 with a stamina battery. The 2k and 3k use hardware that is better about power consumption than the original, which yes, only got about 4-6 hours on a charge.

  • Nope, it didn't.

You should read it again. CAREFULLY, this time.

I said it had better graphics then Neo Geo Pocket colors 9 years before and i said it was able to do 3D graphics.

I never said it was able to do graphics that's on par with current gen hendhelds. It would be foolish.

It's pretty obvious you can't compare Electrocop with Super Mario 64 or Final Fantasy Crisis Core.

I just said no other handheld console since then used 3D graphics.

I forgot about the GBA, still it's 12 yrs later.

  • You are totally missing the point. No other handheld? I think you need to go read up on the technical capablities of handhelds that existed before the Neo Geo Pocket, that had better graphics than the Lynx. No freebies for this one. The GBA was not the first.

  • 5:39

131 rings lost. Gotta hurt. :(

  • wer u using hyper cam on a computer? the sound kinda laggs....

  • Ah I remember this, I knew someone with a Neo-Geo Pocket and I got to play this through, and the Sky Chase zone is great!

  • Is this one of the first times that Sonic was introduced as thin and had long spikes?

  • no, this was released post-adventure

  • nioce, but you need a updated emulator version or a better pc. The music and the game slowdown all the time.

  • ..i wanna play :(

  • hahaha is it just me or does the music sound like rice crispys cereal? *snap crackle pop*

lol also sounds like someone mimiking a beat box with theyre mouth...ha worse

good game tho no hate! I used to own sonic on GameGear with that recharchable GG bat and powerrangers (Powerrangers was the best fight game for Gamegear) thuaght id thro that in since ppl are bringing up the GG :)

  • a lot of re-used content, graphics, music, level design. Still i have to admit, i am disapointed by the neo-geo's performance, it's graphics look almost game gear like and it's sound leaves a lot to be desired

  • neo south island act2 has angel island act1 music!

  • glad to see elements of Sonic CD in this too, fucking awesome

  • omg once again sonic looks like a drug addict and some adventure! looks just like A sonic game for the game gear and a lot poor to! i hate this game!

  • i have this game for meh neo geo pocket color.

    its really fun!

  • this game looks like it could of been on game gear lol

  • No it isn't.....

  • not really its sort of a cross over between sonic 2 and 3 because sega were cheap and re-used music

  • To me, it looks more like a cross between Sonic 1 and 2.

  • neo geo pocket wa sa cool 16 bit handheld with great graphics and sound ( play capcom vs snk ) stil got mine i will keep it and got loads of games on it... id rather destroy my psp :)

  • 8-bit

  • look it up its 16 - bit

  • Just looked it up on wiki, god damn that must of been a waste of money. Looks like a 8-bit platform, and they put a PSG for music, what where they thinking? The smart thing to do would have been to put a Frequency modulation chip from Yamaha in, one of the cheaper ones as well, like a 4 channel or something.

  • There is a Neogeo Pocket and a Neogeo Pocket Color.

  • Never said there wasn't.

  • oh well, its helping out the ones who didnt know..

    :p

  • Thats a pretty dumb statement considering there is a perfectly fine working NGPC EMULATOR on PSP, better system that can play you horrible systems games score 100000 sony - neogeo 0

  • Neo Geo isn't a company, genius. Besides, this console is six years older than the PSP (seven if you count NGP), so no shit there's an emulator out for it. That's like saying "my PS2 is so much better than your PlayStation." Well, no shit. It should be for coming out six years later.

  • First of all Neo Geo is a company dumbass(have you never played any of their other systems), but that has nothing to do with what I said, This guy said he wants to destroy his psp and just play ngpc which is stupid because he could have the best of both worlds and more on his PSP

  • No, Neo Geo is /not/ a company, it's a product line from SNK. Look it up.

  • Neo geo is a BRAND NAME, just like Chevy is not a company, its GM. And its SNK PLAYMORE thats the company.

  • hahahaha@ u flicking some fucker off for saying PSP better than Geo hahaha

GawD sometimes reading these comments are more entertaining than the videos

    nice one HIGH FIVE!

    xD

  • very good remix of Sonic through Knuckles

  • COOL

  • I Had One Of These!

    And the Game!

    But I Sold It...

Could Never Find Games For It!

    =[

  • 2 words. virtual console!

  • yay, sure. there not on vc console ...

  • LOL!! Neo South Island playing Sonic Jam music

  • okay....

sonic 1 background items and scenery...

    sonic 2 level level design

sonic 3 music!? where they trying to squeeze all 3 classic sonic games in one game!?

    kinda cool I guess...

  • Waht happened to the traditional sonic music :(

  • The game looks good for its time but the sound

    just sucks

  • Could it just be the emulator?

  • Well, at least there's no bombs here to make you lose your rings.

  • Is this like sonic 2 but for gameboy

  • No, its not a Gameboy. Its a Neo Geo Pocket Color. For goodness sakes, why dont people read the doggone titles.

  • you ass, I have sonic and the secret rings and its great

  • Sonic Pocket Adventure is Sonic's only worthwhile appearance on a non-Sega system, and the last good 2D Sonic game, to boot.

    RIP Classic Sonic, RIP Classic Sega, RIP Neo Geo Pocket Color. ;_;

  • Okay let me get this stragiht. You don't like Sonic advance 1,2, or 3 or Sonic Battle?

You don't like any of the collections? You don't like Sonic and the Secret Rings?

  • This game would be really good if it weren't for the NGPC's small screen and lack of back light. I had the hardest time playing it because of those two factors.

  • title screen

    sonic: oh no you DID-ant!!!

  • I wish they would do a new sonic game like this, Dont get me wrong, sonic rush is awesome, but it still doesnt compare to the classic sonics, this sort of does despite its game gear likeness

  • Sonic Rush is nothing like the classic Sonics at all. It's a classic-styled Sonic game with a shiny coat of paint, and a tension meter. Doesn't mean it's bad.

The Sonic Advances were quite close.

  • right. Nothing compares to the classics, so why not just have the classics on your DS? I have Sonic 1, 2, 3 and S&K on my DS running through jEnesisDS 0.6 (The first DS Genesis emulator with sound).

  • Where could i get hold of one of those :D

  • EeeeeBAY!!!!

  • sweeeeeeeeet :D

  • This game was awesome. The hidden puzzle pieces encouraged exploration and the graded time trial mode was cool too.

  • It was just Sonic 2 but worse. Plus the music was taken from various other games. Awful.

  • And yet most people that play it seem to love it.

  • a want all levels for this game

  • i don't know why but i like the level 1 music better than the regular music

  • i got this game the neo geo pocket is pretty impressive

  • first level was the best

  • is it a unique game, at least for its time or a port made for neo geo?

  • brave project 10 years after the Game gear...

  • the rings sound different..

  • That's what you get with pure PSG versus FM...

  • This game has much better graphics than the Game Gear Sonics, it looks much better on a ngpc...

  • ill say i have it

  • Duk 16 bit vs 8,it would look good if it was like sonic 2 wich i already played 10 years ago,but still awesome game.

  • wow this sonic game has a lot of music from older sonic games

  • wow its the sonic 3 title screen music

  • cough*sonic2*cough

  • This game actually takes place before Sonic Adventure.

  • i like when i hear at the beginning ssseeegggaaa and the 3d level is also interresting this game pushes the ngpc to it,s limmit amezing!!!!!!!!!

  • good vid chap, how did u record this vid ?

  • i can't get "debug mode" on the best emulator possible for this game. it is only available on another emulator. but sound isn't available

  • Its a bueatiful game, very vibrant colours. Quite short, but very good fun.

  • I've completed it and even did the extra level with super sonic it was easy^_^
