It was such a loss when Deah passed at that time because they were certainly on their way. That kind of chemistry was rare. It was also a shock when Bruce passed. It almost seemed as if he never got over Deah's passing. They were so talented.
I wondered why I hadn't hard anything from them until I found out they'd passed away years ago: she died in a moped crash in 1994 and he died of colon cancer in 1996. What makes their deaths so eerie is that they BOTH passed away on June 27th. Damian died on the second anniversary of her death.
This was back when BET was on top of its game. When Donnie and Video Soul went off their air, that network took a nosedive smh. I don't know what this is that's being played over the air today. Whatever it is, it sho ain't music!!!
@bre32194 brings back memories....i had one. okay, i don't know it there's a name for it but the top is a bustier/bra that is studded and decorated much like the ones Selena wore. And you could pair it with jeans of some sort. Usually followed with "hammer shoes" or some other variation of them that are more feminine. She's just wearing a regular denim jumper on top and it may have the faux leather panels on the front to set off the bra.
JUNE 27 will always be the day we'll remember: Debra Jean Hurd was killed in an auto accident on that day in 1994. 2 years later, on the 2nd anniversary of his partner Debra's death, Bruce "Damian" Broadus died of colon cancer.
Another ironic coincidence: these 2 were born 7 days apart but different years. Debra was born 9/20/58, and Damian was born 9/13/66
@PrettyToez07 - She does, but she was so damn sexy with it, I thought she was so cute. A lot of creative people are not always comfortable with doing TV interviews an the such, especially at the beginning of their success, usually with time, they get better at it, they are always more at ease with performing. It's a shame she died when she did, and Damian also, God only knows how their careers in music would've turned out, may they both forever R.I.P...
Nawww She Was Flirtin Lls Jk But That Cant Be Her Real Voice Cause Wen Ever She Rapped On A Song She Had A Mature Voice.... But R.I.P They Were And Still Are The Best!
I remember when Deah Dame did background vocals for Ralph Tresvant for his song "Love Hurts" from his self-titled CD.
She was SOO sexy and she had a wild side to her! Love how she was not the "traditional" person and she wanted to be different from the 'norm'.
"You dumb little dumb-dumb/ trying to get some of this yum-yum/ but you gets NONE where YOU comin' from!" -Deah's rap on "Gotta Learn My Rhythm (Remix)". Love it!
i just wanna know what the fuck happened to the days of real interviews like this. smooth artist giving a great interview without all that "no what i'm saying", "yeah my boy this or my boys that" type of bullshit. these were great days to be into hip-hop,r&b 70's,80's, early 90's. these days are long gone. it's all thugged out now with thugs talking shit about beef, popcorn ass music, dressing like thugs, no respect or proper manners towards anyone. please bring these days back.
No more real interviews. No real questions. PR people are telling the interviewer what can or can't be asked. Then.. those "street" answers that makes artists sound really idiotic.
Interviewer: "So how did you meet *so-and-so*".
Artist: "you know what i'm sayin.... my boy and his homegirl... you know what i'm sayin... hooked ya boy up wit...then, we did dat derr.. you feel me? yeah...yeah..word..word.. you know what i'm sayin'?"
@MystroMusicMan hey bra i saved that post you sent me months ago, because that shit is classic. i was reading it today at work to a few cats and they laughed their asses off at it. man you are so right about the way the game has changed in the aspect of great interviewing and great guess. damn man i really miss those days of watching this show. it brings back how things are suppose to be in the r&b,hip-hop,funk, & soul industry.man some one needs to come up with a time machine.
@str8outtatexas1 hey whats up. I saw Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (The A-Team) on Dr. Phill a couple of days ago. Every other phrase almost was "you know what im sayin?" lol It made me think of that. :)
But yep, there is a lot of soul missing in today's (dare I call it) R&B music. If they DO make a time machine, I'll be the first in line to get one!
Debra Jean Hurd aka "Deah Dame", died in an car accident on June 27, 1994. Bruce Edward Brodus aka Damian, died on the same day (June 27th) 2 years later (1996) from colon cancer.
Unforgettable interview of one of my fave groups of all time. So sad that they're both passed away 'cuz Deah Dame & Damian are the modern New Jack version of Ashford & Simpson.
@retrorhythms wow....that's crazy two years apart on the same day, no less...
It's unfortunate when you hear stories like this... and it has the slightly bizarre twist in their passing. A few of their songs seem vaguely familiar...I'm definitely going to look up their other tracks...
@ecee77 Hurd was killed in a moped accident in Atlanta, GA on June 27, 1994 just before the group was set to record a second album.
Broadus died of colon cancer on June 27, 1996 exactly two years after his partner's passing. It has been said by people close to the situation that Broadus' death was due to AIDS-related complications
Yes,,I didn't even know until 2 yrs ago. His daughter Sky needs to feel that her dad was the greatest in his time. Right down to it, made it debut. I wish they would re-play this on R&B cable station.
lol...I'm cracking up when she talks...but on the "Gotta Learn My Rhythm' remix, when she was rapping, she had a FULL voice....lol...that's why it's so funny...lol
Thank you. They actually debuted the year I was born. It's sad that they are both no longer with us. Tv-One, an urban lifestyle and entertainment channel, has a documentary called "Unsung" about lesser known artists. I think that Damien Dame were truly unsung and ahead of their time. I wish somehow their story could be featured. R.I.P. Deah & Damien.
Wow, I remember this, they both died exactly two years apart, she died in a car accident on June 27, 1994, and he died from colon cancer on June 27, 1996, but now there together again eternally, may they both R.I.P.
damn, were they telling on themselves?
"do some music to this female artist"
"we slammed that whole day"
...and i KNOW as nice as donnie is, i know he was wondering what the hell was going on with dude's hair.
...or maybe it's me.
