@MrSuperiority - I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh, but your comment cracks me up; I don't like running into their webs either...it takes more than a few wipes to clean your face off! Yes, spiders can leave a lasting impression; just be glad you're too large to be it's dinner! LOL Thanks for both comments,
These things live out near the front door light of our house. 1st there was a couple little ones then the next day boom about 20 of them chowing down on moths drawn to the light! love watching these little guys hunt, have to admit i hurled a couple moths in their webs and they run down to wrap it up! In the morning the webs are gone,They eat them around dawn.
They're awesome they get rid of pest's then clean up after themselves!
@ThantosxWarmedxOver - Hey thanks for leaving a comment and watching my vid! I too have been known to throw a few tidbits into webs as well-LOL! Some will eat their webs as it is a real source of protein for the spider. Most spiders will just repair their webs to save on energy and protien. Take care and have a great day!
New Jersey Mosquitoes are large, vicious and plentiful. Fortunately, the Orb Weaver enjoys feasting on them. Typically, I am paranoid of spiders and their webs. I absolutely hate spiders. However, the Orb Weaver is always a welcomed guest.
A few nights ago I saw a web stretched out over the entire width of a guys driveway. If I had to guess, the anchors stretched out 12 to 13 feet total. The round part was dead center in the driveway. Their work is totally amazing!
@roy2ohio - Hi, thanks for leaving a comment and watching one of my spider vids. WOW on the web find...that is huge! Glad you can enjoy the master "web craftsmen" they are, even if you don't really like them much. I can't say that anyone likes walking into a spiders web, that is just down right annoying...even for me! Take care,
One thing that is interesting to note, is that orb weavers, despite having eight eyes, have VERY poor vision - they rely on movement in the web to detect prey. Also, they are not even aware of the whole design of their web; as they are weaving, they are only aware of their immediate surroundings and by repeating the same movements and "filling in" the spaces between radial threads, they acheive the whole orb web, without even realizing its design, or beauty as a whole!
God is amazing! ive known about these little guys and their skill in building a complex engineered structure for a while now...everytime i see them in action i worship The Mighty Lord! think about it for a moment...this is a tiny insect that was born with amazing inate engineering skills?? where'd they come from? they're not learned skills, but was endowed from birth with abilities to design, measure, and execute a very complicated structure! Bravo! The Lord is GOOD!!!
@harpinKeith - Hi Keith, thanks for leaving such an awesome comment brother! I am amazed at God's creative design and handy work whenever I'm enjoying His marvelous nature! From the tiny little critters to our own wonderfully created bodies. Have a great day and walk close with our Lord!
@mikefarrelljr67 - Hi, I believe the first spider is of the common "graden" variety and the last orb weaver is a Shamrock I had caught earlier that same day and released. It is a female "trifolium". All spiders in this clip are females, even though I call them "he". LOL
@13Batz - Hi Mr. "Batz" and you are absolutely correct, this would be a female. Most females are the larger of the species and have more elaborate webs. The guys tend to build small little webs near the female or even "borrow" a little corner of her web to inhabit when "love is in the air!" The guys big task is lov'em and leave'em before becoming dinner! Sometimes very tricky business...LOL

Beautiful video. Your commentary, as well the music, is great too. I added this to my favorites.

That spider at the beginnings a spotted orb weaver right? Or is it the shamrock at the end just zoomed in, and identified later in the video?
