I guess you could say this movie is a favorite of mine..and yet, I've never seen it. I'm acquainted with the story because I read the book in high school numerous times. It was a favorite of mine and I still have that copy. Growing up in the Mid-west, I never had the chance to ride a wave until I was in my mid thirties in Florida. Some surfers suggested boogie boarding and taught me the basics. I finally experienced the sensation and enjoyed it.
This Movie Flop when it First came out on the Box Office at 1978 But I just saw this Movie on the Weekend on DVD And all I can say is This Movie ROCKS Big time for me. It's the Best Surf movie after Endless Summer Dude.
Watch my video "Is John Severson my Father" and learn how I discovered that John Severson might be my father and find out how he responded to my request for the truth.

@titostacos Serious?? How cool was that? Im 50 and i always feel like a teenager back in Huntington Beach in the 70's seeing this film. Any interesting stories you can share from your experience on the film?
I surf... this movie ment the world to us.. the mythology they created has real meaning today... as we see men seeking their own lives and adventures being exploited and killed off by the corporate machine.
I saw this when I was in high school when first it came out. It's a tad ironic that Jan Michael Vincent played an alcoholic surf star (Matt Johnson) only to become a tragic alcoholic himself in real life.
I was surfing in San Onofre in the very early 1980's and saw him with a few of his buddies (Gregory Harrison being one) and man, they could surf pretty good.
I sort of idolized him as he said that he acted to make money so he could travel the world and surf.
This brilliant time piece flew 6 miles over the moron public's head. It tanked at the box office but it remains as the best "Coming Of Age" film that I've ever seen.
wow, your lucky. i'd have paid good money to be an extra in that film. it's one of my all time favourites. where abouts did they shoot that scene for the draft?

hey yous 2 idiots! standing around in your wet undies for 12 hours means yous are faggots!! ive been to LA, and it's all a bunch of faggoys, queers and transtesticles like you 2 homo's! typical LA trash!! that's why movies suck! too many morons standing in a line for $5 to play a part nobody will see! yous morons!!!
wait a minute, you PAID to be a extra in a film that sucked?! hey i need a new roof if you pay ME enough and i take your picture how much will YOU pay ME! i'm thinking 10g's?
I was around 16 or 17 when this came out in the late 70's. Man that was one cool movie for surfers. Not a typical "surf flick" but a good fictional story. Years later, here comes Mavericks. Who would ever guess California could produce such a wave.
if you didn't know already, the writer/director of this movie went on to write Apocolypse Now, Dirty Harry, Jaws, etc. John Milius. Brilliant mind and crazy like a fox. IMO, very Hunter S. Thompson-esque in his writing and belifs.
Great surf movie. I saw it on Showtime (believe it or not) in the late 70's.
Lee Purcell was always freaking hot!

当時と言えば、千葉の片貝のサーフポイントが新港じゃなくて片貝のビーチの時。
ナイスビーチ!と叫んでいた、にべやと言う海の家のオヤジを思い出すな~。
