  • sounds cool :-)

  • I really like this :) I need a person to do this kind of animation for me in a doc I'm shooting. There is a poem being read in it! I will pay good money, per hour. I'm going to leave this note with others on youtube who are really good with this sort of thing. First one back to me will get the project. Are you interested?

  • beautiful

  • This was destroyed by face of Sarah Palin's motherf*cking ugly bitch face that turned up at the bottom of the screen in an ad via Google. Useless piece of shit.

  • what a wonderful notion!!!

  • OMG!!!!!! what book was this from?

  • real

  • favourited and thank yu Gail for sharing you always choose one that you know i will enjoy...mary

  • wtf does it mean??

  • It's just about him imagining walking across the ocean to Europe, nothing more.

  • kool

  • @PrinceVice lol

  • Love the poem and great animation

  • Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful--great man, Billy Collins, just perfect for being so simplistic and yet so evocative, especially with the animation to back it up.

  • I love the way these poems are animated! So cool~~:)

  • ould this poem be about the aspirations of going somewhere over the atlantic,

and imaginign the ability to "walk" over the atlantic?

  • that was to short i want more

  • do u do this for the poet? If so I have some poetry I would love for u to do for me.

  • one of the most amazing poems i have ever read. when i first read it, it was a total compensation to my physical senses. which to me, it's the best kind of raction.

  • Although i desperately try to grasp the analogy the poet is presenting, I fail to get it. What is he talking about really? I like the usage of simple and relatable imagination...but am dependent on a literature teacher to take me all the way.

  • I can't be sure what the author is trying to explain exactly, but, if I was to guess he's describing the last moments of life for someone who is committing suicide. you know, the last thought and illusions of some one who has walked into death.

    but that's just a guess...

  • i'm more apt to think that the poem is...about what it is about (radical, i know!) he is describing an imaginary experience in such a concrete, real way, and capturing this peaceful mood. you're right that some poems def. do have "the other meaning" but not all, and i think this poem is one of those.

  • pretty good

  • I like the poem, but the lackluster quality of the 3-D model of the dude distracts me too much to favorite this video!!!

  • I think the animation and the poem work together in effortless unity. The ad banner on the bottom of the screen however, degraded the whole experience. shitty ads. : )

  • It's too bad they didn't credit the animator that really did most of the work here. Ahem!

  • I hope for you that 'Ahem' meant that you were being sarcastic.

  • I'm not big on his poetic style, but the animation is beautiful

  • Jesus doesnt exist if you dont believe in him :[

  • tuche.. technically, he's real no matter what you believe.. you know, i actually like this poem now..

  • in other words 'the pretentious prick!' lol

  • its a poem dumbass

  • I don't think, he thinks he is Jesus. He just wrote a poem, that is all. Is that not what youtube is all about?

  • mental masterbation, hold your shifting weight, and have a water spout. swing wildly about with a hammer in a china shop...lol

  • The way he reads reminds me of how Nicolas Cage talks..lol. I love Billy Collins. So talented. Powerful and simple.

  • Quite frankly, I'd rather b ahappy than across.

  • i dont really get billy collins. his poems dont really srike me as poetry more like creative writing or something like that. i think that the only thing that makes it cool is the animation and the sounds. maybe im just ignorant

  • wow, this is deep.

  • i think you will find that it isn't actually that deep.

  • The beauty of Billy Collins' work is that it *isn't* deep. He just takes ideas and gives it to you at face value, but talks about it in a way that makes you rethink everything. He makes the mundane exciting. And that's why he's my favorite author.

    /end rant

  • true, this. i've met him, and he's a wonderful person.

  • yes he is a wonderful person!!! Sweetest guy ever.

  • fuck. i want to get stoned and read all of your stuff

  • this guy is so cool, i almost failed english in my last year of high school.

  • I love tis poem and its imagary. Having watched all the poetry videos by billy collins published on here so far, I think this one is my favourite. Please can we have more.

  • wow

  • this is my favorite poem of billy collins by far!! and the animation is absolutely amazing! whoever did this is a genius.

"try to imagine what this might look like to the fish below: the bottoms of my feet appearing, disappearing

  • makes me feel light as a feather

  • I actually got to see Billy Collins read this poem yesterday! He's amazing, and I love these animations.

  • The Awesomeness... Though English is not my mother's tongue I love these poems... The animations are breath-catching and the voice... I WANT to speak like this ! Most sincere Congratulations and admiration !

  • Billy is my god.. and his poems are my religion

  • Wow is right! ..transformed...

  • W-o-w.

Probably my favourite (of all posted yet).

  • Billy had to be on the chiba, big time!! Right on, Billy!

  • tis a poetic universe

  • Is there any way to get this guy's poems on like, an iPod? Cause i really like em. And his voice makes me really sleepy, so i could listen at night or something.

  • Audible has a couple of audio books featuring him reading his poetry live. Also, Amazon has an audio CD, and of course, his poetry books.

  • a bit haunting... but really good. :]

  • A Poetic-Song has rhymes

  • fuck you

  • Aren't you a sad soul....

  • and also, the poem isn't by the animator but rather the former Poet Laureat of the United States, Billy Collins.

  • to the person who said "There's no actual rhyming in the poem": POETRY ISN'T "SUPPOSED" TO RHYME. In fact, most poems don't. Try taking an English class

  • The poem is calming. I truly enjoyed it. Love it and keep it going

  • man that is some kickass animation.oh and i love your poems too.

  • good stuff, keep them coming!

  • theres no actual rhyme in the poem, but the animation is good.

  • Your really dumb...

  • no, Actually anybody creates poems without rhymes to explain their own position: "poems without rhymes are reflections of ones indifference towards the traditional". And I think this guy actually didn't give a damn about the traditional; the poem is well made, and I don't care if there's no rhyme, even though I used the opposite words on my last sentence. You did what you wanted, and I respect your point, but as Collins, I don't give a damn either. no hard feelings?

  • For me, this poem was about ambition and competition.

  • lovely , ah very mello

  • I cant see anything but literal meaning... Im sorry... If this had any sort of deep subliminal mesage its trying to portray im not getting it.

  • ^_^; That's exactly how I feel about this

  • I think that's kind of the point. Collins doesn't usually like to be very obscure about things. In fact, he rejects the idea that you should analyze every poem to find out what it's "really trying to say." Sometimes you're just supposed to take it for what it is.

  • Well, if I take it for what it is, it just doesn't seem very deep, which is what I look for, in poetry. Without that, it just seems like something I could write in third grade.

Then again, when you're talking about poetry, I guess there is no right or wrong answer. Just what you prefer or don't prefer. I have read some of his other poems, and I think he's great, I just don't like this piece in particular.

  • You can try to squeeze some deep meaning out of it if you want, but I don't think that's going to get you anywhere. You're right, poetry is VERY subjective, but there is such a thing as bad poetry. I like Collins myself, but you're right, this probably isn't his best piece. Personally, I prefer "The Best Cigarette," and "Forgetfulness."

  • freaking awesome!

  • great.

  • I really enjoy poetry now.

  • great stuff

  • nice poem

  • It is almost like looking at a dream that you had last night, but had only just forgotten. This brings back that whole dreamy feeling. Wow
