@Blizzstyle4321 Which one from that brand would you recommended? Also, I had many people tell me to buy a fender but I have a 400 - 600 dollar budget so I'm not sure I can really do much with that, especially when buying an amp etc...
I have a question that's really been bothering me. When you're talking about going from palm muted to non palm muted parts, should my hand be floating in the air when picking the single notes? Like your example with blackened. Do you palm mute the e then lift your hand up a little bit so the notes on the a and d string are not muted? When I pick single notes with my hand in the air like that I kind of get lost, but it could very much be that I need more practice lol.
@Bunplosion Sorry I never got back to you. Anyway, yes, your hand can be in the air, or you can rest it on the bridge itself away from the brige. Just whatever is most comfortable to you. You will probably get it more with practice though.
@thatcoolG i've tried em before but they're made of the same material as the Dunlop Gels picks i used to use. the problem is that they flake at the point of the pickstrike, so you'll get red or purple flakes all over your guitar, and the pick wears out really quickly. my favorite are the black Nylon picks. they stay together very well and they don't color the string or your pickups. they do wear out, EVENTUALLY, but you'll get a good life out of em. better than most picks.
dude i got one question im going to the states on holiday next month and i might buy this whislt im there with emgs :) how do i get it back to england ?
I never noticed it, but Ive been playing all along by strumming by my forearm. What should I do to change this so I can actually start building in speed?
hey everybody,i want to learn guitar,so please can anyone private message me with everything about guitar in details, like what's the difference between rhythm and electric guitar, spanish and acoustic, and if u unplug an electric guitar does play acoustic or spanish or something?,and if there are any other kinds of guitars, and what's the best to start with, and about the bass too, just send any info u know that can help me
Ey man be careful playing. About a month ago I spent half the day tabbing Offspring songs without a break... So I was holding the same chord for 6 hours lol. Anyways now I got carpel tunnel and can't play for more than ten minutes. I should have used your technique of holding the power chords with the pinky so the wrist is straight instead of ring.
children of bodom and stuff like that, i also write my own music. but i'm young too, 14 to be exact, and its really comfortable. sooo yeah and i dont like picks that bend...
Oh yeah those are huge picks. Personally I liked using them for bass but not as much for guitar because I feel like it doesn't allow for much accuracy. But if you like it then don't worry about it, that's all that is important.
My Palm is lying on the edge of the Bridge, so that the strings are not palm muted. But i see you play with your "wrist in the the air". Should i change my position? I have no problems but my teachers said it could be getting a pain in the wrist after years or something. What do you think?
You play like me, the side of your hand on the back of the bride I havn't noticed anything bad when I do it, I try to break the habit, and I find sometimes I "float" above the bridge without even noticing, I find it easy to rest near bridge if I'm going to do quick shuffling Palm mutes. I've been play like this for 3 years and have shatterd my wrists, volley ball makes them hurt, this doesn't you should be fine.
is there any exercise that i can make my right picking hand stronger? because i cant play master of puppets with downstrokes, i can play it with alternate picking but in that speed my picking hand become early tired, do you have any advice?
Get a metronome or metronome program and practice doing downpicking. Make sure you do it in eighth notes and up the bpm's as each setting becomes more comfortable don't it it in excess though. Make sure you don't tense up your shoulder. If your shoulder is getting tired your doing it wrong.
something I noticed was when i was messing around one day and used a 3.0 mm pick, it had a different tone than when i use my normal 1.0 mm pick. May be something to keep in mind.
every single pick has a different tone..it depends on the thickness and the thing it's made of...metal picks have a sharper tone than picks made of nylon or plastic
agree, i suddenly figured out i sucked at guitar (few years back) so i started playing stuff i thought sounded cool (mostly old metallica stuff) it was pretty easy and it just got easier and easier, and it really improved my playing, so older metallica stuff is recommended if you want to get better
alternate pick ftw.. and ur lessons are rly nice man !!! i can alternate pick for like an hour but i cant downpick for more than like 5 mins (Master of puppets 4 example)
Can you give me some advice please? Im having lots of trouble alternate picking, I can do it fine on one string, but i cant change to a different string whilst doing it very well, how can i get better at this please someone?
Sure man. That's a tough skill for sure. My suggestion is to just practice it a lot, but practice it very slowly and build your speed up. Muting techniques will help for changing between strings as well.
Nice vid. I just got an 61 Reissue SG, Im always buying guitars I saw the ibanez you have at my Guitar center used with hotter end pickups, I may pick it up next week.
Nice lesson. The distortion sounds very tinny tho, kinda empty. your sg has better distortion, are you putting it through a differnt pedal or is it the Pickups?
Thanks dude. My SG does have a better pickup. But the sound quality on a lot of my videos isn't that good. It's not the guitar or the amp or anything, it's mostly the fact that I'm using a digital camera to record these videos and it just doesn't sound the same as it does if you were actually standing next to my amp.
good lesson, i actually hold my pick with the point of it in my finger and thumb and have the big round end of it hittin the strings, i must be weird lol
i have tyed hard to make my picking coming only by my wrist (about 75 % come off the elbow) - but the action is so little, that its hard to control where the moving is from.
Is there a helpfull trick to exercise that? For example i had practis playing by laying my wrist on the bridge...
Your picking doesn't need to only come from your wrist. You will probably use a combination of all three, wrist, elbow, and fingers. But if you want to use your wrist more, try bending your wrist a little bit. Otherwise, just do what is comfortable and what lets you play the best.
Personally I don't think it really matters how you hold the pick as long as you can play what you want to. For me it's a matter of comfort and because I am able to pick harder with more stability and control that way.
cool lesson i got a question i got tab for song i'm death metal guy so yeah anyway the song is frantic disenbowlment by cc and what be the best way 2 learn 2 play like cause i been on the song for ages i've only got though the first page and slowly can you help me?
Thanks man. Well death metal is a pretty difficult style to learn, so the only advice I can give you is to be patient and work your way through it slowly. It sounds like you've already got a start on it though, so that's all you need.
Maybe you can shed some light on my delema, I got a few guitars, all in the 300-550 range. I was looking into the RGT42DX (yours) or a RGT6EXFX, which doesnt have the floating trem system, but comes with the emg 81/85 in place, in general its black and fairly simple looking, but just curious how your guitar shreds and if it can get those crystal clear Wintersun sweeps...in your opinion which you'd pick...what would sgshedder do :)
Well I've never tried EMG's but I still wouldn't buy a guitar just for it's pickups. To me, the most important thing is the quality of the construction and how easy it is to play. You can always replace the pickups later, but it's a lot harder to improve a guitar's playability. Anyway personally I don't like those types of fixed bridges. They are like cheap tremolos without a bar. If you want a fixed bridge guitar I'd go with a stopbar/through body style.
Thats def true, I just noticed with my floating trem that sometimes where I rest my hand it can shift my tone on accident. I figured I might get more results with the fixed bridge. But as far as how it plays, I am sure its amazingly smooth. But please do some covers on that axe and as requested by others a review :)
well he could make a whiteibanezshredder but he would lose all his views and everything he has. Just because he has a new guitar doesnt mean he has to use the all the time.
Try adding a bit of elbow movement, otherwise it's just a matter of practicing a lot and learning to move more efficiently and building some more endurance up.
Are you going to do any Megadeth covers? I'd like to hear some 'Rust In Peace' stuff from you. Great lesson and playing as always. Nice new guitar too. Keep on rockin'
I own an Ibanez RG370DXL, and it also has an Edge III bridge...I believe it has the INF pickups as well.
I don't know about yours, but my trem has a "floating arm" thing going on, which kind of makes it a bit troublesome with doing some squealie type deals, compared to other tremolo systems.
I'm glad you finally made a video on picking. Cause I was wondering if you could check out music by Iced Earth, because their guitarists seriously have the best picking I've ever heard, and you would probably be impressed by their flawless picking and chugging riffs on their album "Night of the Stormrider". Please check it out if you have time
hey dude haven't talked to you in awhile I was gonna send you those children of bodom synth samples but I no longer have a synth :( so all apologies I'm sure I'll get a new one some time in the future when I do I'll get you those samples but anyway great video and love the new guitar I got the same one in black ibanez RG's are very nice but on the picking try to minimize picking with your fingers try to keep it at wrist except for powerful chugging then the elbows
anyway, anyway and anyway...
talk less. play hard |_|

There is no "law" that tells you the right way to pick. Just basic guidelines to help the beginner.
If you start of picking in a different way, and never looked back, then by all means go ahead!
But, the universal way, I would prefer for beginners.

Get a metronome or metronome program and practice doing downpicking. Make sure you do it in eighth notes and up the bpm's as each setting becomes more comfortable don't it it in excess though. Make sure you don't tense up your shoulder. If your shoulder is getting tired your doing it wrong.

It's coming up. And yes, it's a great guitar!

TheGamer86 3 years ago
Well I've never tried EMG's but I still wouldn't buy a guitar just for it's pickups. To me, the most important thing is the quality of the construction and how easy it is to play. You can always replace the pickups later, but it's a lot harder to improve a guitar's playability. Anyway personally I don't like those types of fixed bridges. They are like cheap tremolos without a bar. If you want a fixed bridge guitar I'd go with a stopbar/through body style.
RedSGShredder 3 years ago
Thats def true, I just noticed with my floating trem that sometimes where I rest my hand it can shift my tone on accident. I figured I might get more results with the fixed bridge. But as far as how it plays, I am sure its amazingly smooth. But please do some covers on that axe and as requested by others a review :)

Great video man. I was really looking into getting that RG and I was wondering how you like it. I'm assuming the stock pickups aren't too hot.
Trendkill89 3 years ago
Yeah dude, the stock pickups aren't that good. I am going to make a review video for the new guitar. Thanks!

Try adding a bit of elbow movement, otherwise it's just a matter of practicing a lot and learning to move more efficiently and building some more endurance up.

You hold the pick the same way I do! thats the first time i've seen someone else hold it that way!

Are you going to do any Megadeth covers? I'd like to hear some 'Rust In Peace' stuff from you. Great lesson and playing as always. Nice new guitar too. Keep on rockin'

Nice lesson by the way!

Dude, I have the same guitar! Nice!

I think it's a great guitar. I say 10/10. I will probably make a review video for it in the near future, so keep an eye out for that.
