@ 1969jmac- i practice a subsystem of pukulan pentjak silat and have not seen many of the forms this guy is doing in the video. Looks kinda karate like to me. Most of our djurus (forms) do not include high kicking like that. Mostly low kicks groin and below for combat. Much safer and immediate impact. Good locking, breaks and sweeps too

Never really been exposed to silat of anykind but just from this video it appears to take a lot of athleticism. It looks like it would take quite some time and a rather steep learning curve to become effective with this system

@1969jmac One of my friend at work does Cilat, and it seems there are a bunch of different forms. He his rather skiny guy, but indeed quite strong. Most of what I could see are technics to disable and control your opponent though

@1969jmac Silat puts its emphasis on different muscles, Malaysia/Indonesia being primarily jungle terrain havign low stances helps keep you gravity and balance close to the ground to avoid slipping and tripping up and once you have the conditioning and the foundation you can pick up new techniques relatively quickly it is a learning curve for westerners but a rewarding one as well

I think this is silat, but mixed version, I can see a minangkabau style (tiger, harimau) in his silat.
