I'm not sure it is dispersal, as much as that there are no clubs for not collecting stamps. But the Internet is full of people who don't collect stamps.
On the other hand Camp Quest sounds like fun. If Samantha promises to use a noise cancelling microphone, and sort the lighting before the next video, I'll sign him up. Except he is only 14 months old at the moment, so it might not be till CQUK 2020 or so.
Evolution activities? Like... first person to evolve wins a prize? That sounds pretty cool, I'm good at evolving! I try to evolve at least once a night before bed.
Jokes aside, did you know there's quite a sprawling and growing atheist community on YouTube? Seems the internet's a natural habitat for us atheists, given how dispersed we tend to be.
Greatly looking forward to teaching some of my science-inspired songs at Camp Quest this week. I think if you take a look at the videos of kids singing my songs you will not see them cavorting with the devil. They are celebrating the awesome wonders of our fantastic world and relishing the knowledge that science has granted us of that world. Search under "science oratorio" on YouTube and you'll see loads of examples. You don't need faith to be moved by the beauty of the universe. David H
The only various ideas you can give them are your own therefore they will conclude with your bias.
As for talking to them about that dimwit Darwin, they could end up being another Karl Marx , God forbid, as Marx was a Christian who was influenced by Darwins book and then killed millions.
"We also hope to inspire them to learn more for themselves."
Just as any good and well trained outdoor instructor would. It's called experiential learning!
the theory behind bringing more forms or thery based learning (as in not practical in the way team building or canoeing is) on to a camp is a good one. though it is not new and is not only done by Camp Quest. Camp Quest is the only one that at preasent brings belife(s) (or has been publicly recognised for it) into play!
There are many stories in the world that could be taught to children as 'the truth', we hope to get people thinking about various ideas and understand that it's ok not to believe in something just because others do. They should be allowed to come to their own conclusions.
In what way? I think the earlier a child wrestles with the idea of something they can never see the better. Let a child hunt for ghosts and ghoulies lest they turn into a spiritualist or, heavens forbid, a militant evangelist crying "Demons!!"
As for God, there is one and He is comming soon to judge everyone. If you accept His Son Jesus Christ, God will accept you and give you eternal life with Him, if you reject God then you will have an eternal life in the lake of fire. So if you want choice, choose Jesus now, before you die, there is no choice afterwards, only regrets that can never be compensated.
laurian27453, are you for real? Honestly, you sound like an Indian eunuch who's trying to scare people with silly curses and other superstitious drivel.
Samantha, I hope the camp goes well. Best of luck.
You need to be scared. Satan said to Eve " surely you won't die!". Since then we have all been cursed with sickness and death. Satan does not want you to know the truth because until you accept Jesus, you are Satan's child. You can believe a lie or know the truth, its your choice. An eternal life in a lake of fire does not sound that attractive to me.
God gives you a choice, manipulation offers no choice.Tthis criminal scum only wants YOU, who I assume are above me, to know the truth. Its not for my benefit ,unlike the gypsy senario, its for you
God loves you, made you and wants the best for you, if you want to reject the best, then so be it. Never look a gifthorse in the face.
We are sinners, we will never be good enough for a Holy God, so going to church, following rituals, doing good works will NEVER be enough or we would boast.
Now you sound like the grandmother who's been duped by those pushing the gypsy curse. She's busy propagating the threat to the rest of her family "believe, just in case". Meanwhile the gypsies(clergy) running the scam, profit; while the manipulated, fearful, self-serving pawns do the work.
Your 'gifthorse' doesn't work on me. Partly because I'm not so selfish to worry about my claimed eternal well-being, partly because I understand how scams - based on fear - work.
I would agree, there are many who claim to be Christians and dishonour God in their behaviour but that does not mean all are like that. Many of them do not study the Bible so they are ignorant of the truth.
Surely you are not willing to spend eternity in a lake of fire. Trouble is if you do not find out the truth now while you can then you will be so cross with yourself when you die. You must make sure I am right and read the bible, it could be your last chance to be saved, don't flunk it.
Laurian, don't you understand? You are one of those self-serving, fearful pawns I was speaking about - the ones who manipulate vulnerable, fearful people by using untestable threats. The only difference between you, the gypsy, the eunuch previously mentioned is that you are so duped by the scam, you can't see through it.
I know you mean well, but let's take your ignorant fear based mumbo-jumbo elsewhere. Send me a PM if you want to discuss it further - I don't mind being entertained.
Laurian, because this discussion has nothing to do with CQUK, I think it would be respectful of us to take our discussion elsewhere - send me a PM (personal message). To do that, you left-click on my name and go to: send message. We can then discuss some of your claims at length.
Kids are kids , they rely on good mentors to be good citizens. The path of good is better than that of choice. Give a child choice and they invariably choose bad. Hence all the problems with children these days is they are not taught good and evil, right and wrong, but are taught "choose". We should train up a child in the way it should go, not wants to go. Paranormal is VERY dangerous to be involved in. It brings in bad luck and evil forces into a family. Bad fortune, sickness and death,
You only need to see the way the world is today to see thats true. Single mums, abortions, divorce, knife and gun crime, many young people in prisons, selfish desires, a love of money and possessions, love of pop and football idols, drugs..the list is endless.
Man is a sinner and has an evil heart and only through a knowledge and acceptance of Jesus Christ can he be reformed and turn from his evil ways.
This "camp" is a shame. The UK seems like a pile of crap. Buses with "there is no god", lots of muslims who feel always "offended" and attack the british-christian culture.
Christian camps and pathfinders are our tradition and "atheist" camps are for kids with bad parents.
@DJPingas christian camps and pathfinders are an affront to reason and good judgment. every one of them are brainwashing camps. Atheists are interested in humanity, and in raising our children to be the best people they can be--without expectation of reward or threat of punishment in some non-existent afterlife.
I would like to know what is this weird activity like holding anti-theist signs (?) yet you support tolerance (?) also since I have studied logical fallacies and how to construct logical arguments, I can say that it is impossible *disprove* the Invisible Pink Unicorn and yes I have checked your site,Richard Dawkins's site was advertising it.
I'd rather send my atheist/agnostic kids to a regular summer camp.
Kids seem to love it, and you know they are providing fun, scientific activities. I, for one, would have killed to attend a camp such as this. The stuff about learning how to think logically is just a bonus really.
If you've studied logical fallacies then you should love Camp Quest as that is exactly what we hope to highlight. We don't look at WHAT the children think, rather HOW they think and use challenges and the Philosophy for Children (P4C) approach to get them thinking!!
The idea of a summer camps will spread across UK and Europe. There are numerous camps already but I think the general mind set of kids and parents will change from a one off, to a regular annual event (that also leaves the summer free for parents!)
Sounds good, it will certainly make learning less clinical and bring science to life. I know that science in the classroom has an underserved reputation of being naff. Hopefully this will change that, and it should be good for the none academic learners and open up science to them.
I assume its open and affordable to children of different social backgrounds?
Awesomesauce! I wish that there had been camps like this when I was a kid. It'd be nice to also have some kind of analogue to the Scouting program. I remember having to constantly fear exposure when I was an atheist in the Boy Scouts of America, I made it all the way to Eagle, but that was a whole 6 years of hiding.
I dont remember religion or fathe having any majour problems when i was in the scouts in the UK! maybe my group was more relaxed or is it the same everywhere in the uk?
My one grudge against the unicorn challenge, that is a typical fanatical ploy to force views on to children, your camp should be dumped in the bin with the Islamic hate preachers. You are actively guiding them not to see anything but what you want them to see, so much for freethinking and making your own mind up.
I think you might have misunderstood the camp's aims, we don't have any views or agenda to impose. We aim to use stimulating activity to get the children to think for themselves and formulate their own opinons.
Yes you do have an agenda, it is as follows: - religious people are the scum of the earth, religion is wrong, there is absolutely no god, gods, sprits or any supernatural forces if you believe in the above you deluded and sent to Broad Moor for psychiatric treatment.
You are using science inappropriately to manipulate the views of children towards atheism (The unicorn challenge). The children are not allowed to find their own personal/spiritual truths, because you have pre-determined that.
Our only agenda is to provide children of freethinking or atheist parents a place to explore their thoughts in a safe environment. If that is seen by some as indoctrination, then so be it. Perhaps there are some atheists such as you describe, but we are not among them.
It's a shame you feel that way, I assume you are a theist?
I can assure you that the camp is not about generating hatred of a group of people because of what they believe, the focus is on the child's development; we hope they will leave camp more creative and curious about the world around them.
The philosophy aspect of the camp seeks to help the children understand for themselves that everyone has a different point of view and get them to determine for themselves what they believe.
In case you didn't notice, the objective is to prove that the unicorns DON'T exist. In other words, it is not the children trying to defend their faith and prove that the unicorns they believe in exist, but rather refuting them from a skeptical standpoint. To date, no child has ever truly won the contest, at least in the US camps. This shows that on a fundamental level, it is just as difficult to refute the idea of god as it is to defend it empirically. How's that for some free thinking?
Just another Joo camp to spread their Marxist anti religion doctrine. And this little joo bitch is just another brainwashed tool!
