  • Its called foggy mountain breakdown you idiots

  • I caught them at the old Lone Star in NYC way back. Great allstar band with no one stepping on anyone else's toes and everybody keeping up the pace. Not easy to find this caliber of playing.

  • I listen to this, I realize I got 2 choices. 1.chuck the guitar in the dumpster, or... 2. hit the wood shed. HMMMMMMM, ok i choose the wood shed . see y'all in about 100 years

  • I saw him twice, once in NYC circa 1988 and once in Chicago circa 1992... I can vouch that he WAS that fast and did things on the Gui-tar that mortal men cannot do. He was like Roy Clark and Hendix having a baby and then that baby nursing from Les Pauls teets. The guy was incredible for sure.

  • Nice one, sounds like they're takin' off on "Orange Blossom Special." To the guy who was surprised at Gatton playing a Les Paul: shoot, when I used to go see him around DC every week or so back in the 1970s, that's all he played, that gorgeous LP with the "Magic Dingus" box and the Leslie setup. He must have switched to the Telecaster years later. Of course, he could play anything. First time I ever saw him, he opened with a guitar solo, then a banjo solo, then a pedal steel solo!

  • Emmblazed!!

  • wow danny gatton.... just one of the best ever so sad we lost him so young.

  • Chicken Picken on speed! Emmons is back on the E9 neck and is more at home there. I sure wish there was more to these than 20 seconds of a 4 minute song! Jazz boogie, Western Swing, Rockabllliy, Psychobilly, and other forms of C&W that are NOT cryin in your beer music by a long shot. Gotta love it! This is not quite as hard as it looks, nor as fast, but its not easy either, just the result of lotsa work and practice, and the gift of being able to improvise really well. Where's the rest?

  • Aw c'mon, at 1:34 it's clearly sped up.

  • @noteworthiness I was at this concert and know (unfortunately knew) Gatton and Emmons. It's not sped up. This is a duped VHS tape (about 100 times it looks like) and there are some places where the tape glitches, but the songs are not sped up. The timestamp you're talking about is a VHS tracking error.

I swear sometimes Gatton used to slow down just so the rest of us could keep up!

  • @amoskowitz0103

No need to swear man, I was just making a little fun. These guys are phenomenal beyond any doubt. Actually, for a moment I thought Emmons took the whole video sliding. Very cool.

  • I want to hear some, of Buddy's stuff before he became involved with druggies. SPURN THE MUSE!!

  • Bof' dem D.C. boys! SPURN THE MUSE!!

  • holy crap... is gatton playing a les paul?

  • There is a little more digital delay trickery in this early recording...still great playing. Listen to him live in 1994 at the birchmere...no digital delay trickery. Amazing.

  • It's not a digital delay. It's an Echoplex. That's what the Magic Dingus box was for, to control his Echoplex, amp tremolo and reverb, and his Leslie. He eventually stopped using the Dingus and the effects devices because he felt people believed that it was the Dingus that was make him sound so great.

  • @Kohntarkosz Correct...however it has no bearing on what I was trying to get across in my post. In hindsight, I should have just said "delay trickery" rather than "digital delay trickery". There probably wasn't a digital delay available when this is recorded...however, no matter WHAT is making the repeats...it is, by definition, a delay. Again, not really pertaining to the subject of my post, but thanks for the info.

  • The MIGHTY Gatton !!!

  • Danny Gatton is a wicked guitar player. good thing he had Buddy Emmons around- that way there was one person in the band that could keep up with him! i have to say though, switching to the Tele might have been the best choice he ever made- that's the ugliest les paul i have ever seen, and i'm a les paul guy!

  • Y'all ever hear "Stratosphere Boogie" by Jimmy Bryant? You KNOW Danny dug Jimmy! Mr. Gatton took the guitar beyond and into the next galaxy. His use of banjo rolls creates those fast triplets. Any guitarist, no matter what their style is, can learn an awful lot from Danny. Superb!

  • Love the shirts!

  • Sometimes YT is a piece of shit!!

  • the name is classic

  • albert, my brother played behind him for 18 years on the drums, it's not "sped up". i assure you.

  • Danny is great! Some glitches in the tape may indicate a slight playback speed discrepency, however it may be the delay effect on the guitar that creates the impression that the tape has been sped up.

  • He is of course playing with a pick AND with at least one finger plucking up, so he can do jumps most single pick players can't, plus Nashville gave a premium to super right hand chops, and he was one of th best. This is pretty standard fiddle tune speed. Speedy West played steel with Jimmy Bryant who was one of Gatton's early influences with Hank Garland.

As amazing is Buddy Emmons who can keep up on PSG even if he gets cut off just as he hits stride.

  • its not sped up.

this is a style of music.

    its called jazz boogie

    its a real thing lol

just cuz u cant play that fast doesnt mean a proffesional musician cant....

  • @IJmackdaddy Its not sped up, his ears are slowed down!LOL Maybe the brain is slowed down too! I sure wish the whole performance was here. Buddy Emmons was not quite as adept at the C6 neck, but this is on the E9 if I am not mistaken, and both he and Gatton are on fire.

  • Danny needs no speeding up to sound like this. I agree, I have listened to a lot of his playing, and he can play faster than this. But his speed is not his greatest achievement. He was born with unique genius for phrasing and sophistication. To me, he will always be the best. R.I.P., Danny.

  • How can you guys say it's sped up??? If you have a guitar hit an E ............then look at his fingers when he hits and e major chord and a major at around 1:15 to 1:20.

  • tapped straight into the source

  • Zorba the Greek in 0.51 :)....

  • seems like a sped up cartoon, but it really happened that way..

  • This is NOT sped up. Danny played that fast & faster. Have you ever listened to hillbilly music? This is not unusually fast.

Check out Speedy West. He's even worse.

  • ive heard him play faster, slower, cleaner, and sloppier. i still think this is slightly sped up just from the sound of it. and what does speedy west(a pedal steel player)have to do with this? no, ive never listened to 'hillbilly' music, thats why i had no frame of reference to compare this song ive heard gatton cover a million times!

  • albertfish69 I have heard 20 live shows of Gatton in the 70's and for sure it is mind boggling guitar playing but his right hand picking is just as amazing as his speed, let alone his mastery of all the styles, and all the different types of guitars he can play...

  • Albert, you're an IDIOT. I saw him in person, dipsh**

  • Thanks chucksguitarshop; yes hard to believe and it sounds sped up but thats how awesome Danny Gatton is. This is what I've been bragging about; Danny Gatton on youtube for 3 years.

  • I miss him. I apologize. I meant to say Jimmy Bryant... but my head has been elsewhwere since Danny had me so involved in researching that style of music many years ago. Danny was very inspirational to me.

  • how long ago is this?

  • Buddy Emmons is not a slide player-

    He is playing pedal steel...

He re-invented how to play it....

and created the Emmons steel guitar

They are both one of a kind!

  • I like this show better than Club Soda, Gallaghers, Birchmere all from 88, and 89 Annapolis, and 92 Montreal because the 70's were Dannys prime years. Between 74-78 WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Or better yet 88 was Gattons most polished year and best playing but more spectacular in the 70's; just raw devestation I guess...

  • very nice, emotionally rich playing

  • Wow... it's so incredible that it looks like speeded up

    TeleMaster!!!

  • Gatton fans go to the Sleepwalk clip of Gatton on youtube and read my messages....mastercollector/gattonmaster

  • Incredible!!!

  • Phiyukyu Not really; Angelo I have seen many time and have talked to him and made him videos. He is a fast player like Gilbert, Holdsworth, and Shawn Lane; and Yngwie. But Gatton would destroy most anyone except Lenny Breau, and Scotty Anderson. Then i's just all opinion but Gatton at his best with his awesome improvised soloing is the most imressive player ever!!!!!! MASTERCOLLECTOR/GATTONMASTER

  • UM, yeah, I know both of them? What is to compare? Danny kills Batio. Batio is doing simple scale runs fast and sweep arpeggios, while Danny is doing, sweeps, rakes, chicken pickin', Travis pickin', hybrid pickin' rock licks, blues licks, jazz licks, Rockabilly and so...

  • bingo

  • My f*cking head just exploded! Danny Gatton you are missed!

  • my vote for hottest guitar player ever. And he doesn't even wear a mask.

  • wildhorsestudios1421 Good comment, I've been saying this for 3 years too. Scotty Anderson plays lightningn quick and clean licks with perfect Technical ability, Lenny Breau plays like Danny different styles and a difficult style himse, Mongomery with his octaves, blocked chords, and improvised chorus after chorus solos but Gatton is without a doubt the hottest player ever and most impressive.

  • I know this is just stating the obvious... but man that cat could really play. That right hand work is like something from another planet.

  • 1. 77 Phsychedelly Sweet Georgia Brown

    2. 74 A Childe Herald Orange Blossom Special

    3. 1969 Orange Blossom Special unnacompanied

    4. 1975 Annandale Bar & Grill Orange Blossom Special

    5.1976 Bostone Jazzworkshop- track 3

These solos my friends burn at white hot speed!!!!! formally mastercollector and now new name Gattonmaster

  • haha who gives a fuck. bet he can't play like that. wot's he doin' lookin at it ayep.

  • haha my friends dads friend has his blue les paul...no lie!! :-)

  • prove it I say, Hlly and Jan wouldn't part with it, show us a picture mate???

  • tylerandwill Please send me a picture of Dannys Les Paul. I can't believe that wasn't kept in the Gatton family. If its true you really have Dannys Les Paul, you need to contact Ed Eastridge at Big Mo Records and have him get that guitar to Holly Gatton wherer it belongs. Formally mastercollector and now new name Gattonmaster

  • Love the T-shirts!

  • tylerandwill Holly sorry I can't spell. Anyway prove it.

  • huh?

  • unbelievably gooooood!!!

  • Danny Gatton is my hero. He either makes you want to quit or practice. I chose the latter... Thanks Danny

  • I like your comment, if there was any flaw it was not finess jazz or the best blues but rip roaring extraordinare and a billion note wonder. From 1976 Jazz workshop Boston there is a sole that is the fastest Gatton lick I've ever heard!!!

  • solo

  • hi! mastercolector, niles here, great talk we had and thanks for info, where did you hear or obtain the 76 solo in boston? if that's his fastest solo, where the amps able to keep up? p.s i played gallagher's for my 87 year old mom, who played flamenco guitar back in the 60's she was totally impressed with this guy's skill, in fact once i figure how to make dvd to dvd recording's on this comp. she will get one! she commented that she has never seen a guitarist of this caliber ever! gotta luv it

  • actually there about 10 licks of Dannys that devestate and rank with that one.

  • I remember the first time I heard Danny -- it was in my car on the way to work, and I had to pull over to listen to the tune. I waited until it ended so I could find out who this incredible player was and buy all his albums, and that's when they announced he had died. It's a crying shame he's gone, but wow did he ever contribute some amazing music while he was here.

  • Buddy Emmons is one of the coveted set of people who could even "keep up", with a guitar "monster", like Danny Gatton. God bless you Danny Gatton, for giving this world what you did while you were here. Marc Trainor.

  • One for the books. Danny Gatton playing Zorba the Greek, country-shred, crystal clear style, on a Gibson Les Paul. I also saw him jazz/rock-out the theme to the '50s TV show "Perry Mason" at the Club Soda in Wash. DC, back around 1980. what a show.

  • Man tell me more; great stuff. Theres a video from the 88 show at Club Soda and he does the entire repitwa it's great; he's really on and funny as usual. Can you get any old audio and video of Gatton. ANYBODY KNOW ANY BIG GATTON COLLECTORS OUT THERE CONTACT ME-MASTERCOLLECTOR-GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!

  • sellby06 can you get any audio or video of Gatton from that 80 CLub Soda show? I saw an 88 Club Soda show on video and it was great. One of my faveorite shows on video I've seen of Danny. mastercollector

  • This is embarrassing, but could someone tell me how to get my clips on youtube. I bought a little y chord or something and I have a dvd player and vcr; now what? Help mastercollector

  • Amazing guitar playing ! He's really working the les paul .

  • GATTON FANS WE ALL HAVE TO POST MORE CLIPS OF OUR BEST GATTON VIDEO MOMENTS ON YOUTUBE THEN GO TO OTHER GUITARISTS YOUTUBE SIGHTS AND DIRECT THEM TO GATTONS. ALSO WE ALL NEED TO FIND A WAY TO MASS DISTRIBUTE BEST OF GATTON AUDIO AND VIDEO TAPES/DVDS. HE SHOULD BE AS WELL KNOWN AS HENDRIX AT LEAST. mastercollector

  • agreed

  • i'll take Gatton over Hendrix damn near any day as a player...All substance. But I do think Jimi was an underrated writer. Great video. Thanks

  • agree runningoutofangels for rythm, lead, writing, singing, sound effects, imagination, showman; Hendrix was one of the best musicians. Imagine a jam with Gatton, Hendrix, and Beck. A friend of mine saw all 3 and said Danny Gatton had more tricks than anyone he ever saw. mastercollector

  • agree runningoutof angels, Dannys fingering and picking are too much for Jimi; but for some of jimi's best licks listen to Red House-69 San Jose, Things we used t do-69 Neport Pop, Catfish Blues and I don't live today-67 August Saville Theatre, Spanish Castle Magic 70 Atlanta Pop. mastercollector

  • I think it's funny I got a thumbs down for that statement before though. Shows you how much people hate having their paradigm wrecked. It's music, just dig it. We don't have to agree on what we like better. On the other hand, I was playing Hendrix pretty accurately and actually in rhythm after about 2-3 years of playing. You can't find too many guys that can play Gatton's easiest stuff that well after 10 years, much less 5. That's just fact. But I like 'em both

  • man those matching Tees are just the ticket! great playing too!

  • Amazing. ...Gatton actually got a Les Paul to twang. Guess it shouldn't surprise me.

  • Thanks...I love watching this video!

  • Sounds like he's got delay too...A lot of gadgets in one?

  • To Froike: Probably, he and his Dad created the Dingus Box, right?

  • Has anyone tried to recreate the infamous "Dingus Box"?

  • It sounds like a flanger, doesn't it?

  • Ok...Larry Collins was a bad player especially since he was only 13...BUT Gatton can play by himself, all at once, what Maphis and Collins were BOTH doing! Check Gattons right hand...Maphis and Collins are using just the pick...Gatton finger picks, chicken-pickin'...he uses the pick and all fingers...PLUS his first tv show he was 12 and play Orange Blossom so fast the houseband couldn't keep up...he'd been playing guitar for only 7 months!Lots of great guitar players, but Danny can't be touched!

  • Agreed Guy, even though Scotty Anderson is super fast and clean; it's harder to play with a pick and three fingers like Danny than use a thimb pick and 4 fingers. mastercollector

  • Scotty and Danny were buddies...Danny said that the session players in Nashville were scared to death of Scotty Anderson!Wouldn't that have been something to see those two play together?

  • It's possible that this may be Larry Collins sitting in for Gatton when he was ill and unable to make this show. Consider these facts: the use of the Les Paul, wearing the Gatton shirt to fool the audience, and finally, his face is skillfuly kept from view with light man's help.

  • Danny and Roy were great friends and lived together at one point. Danny said Roy was a big influence on him, but honestly, I feel Danny surpassed Roy in ability and I prefer Danny's playing to Roy's anyday.

  • is it just me or does his playing and appearance resemble roy buchanan's or vica versa , maybe they were related :P

  • Larry Collins could play this stuff at age 13. Check him out.

  • If you want to send me a Larry Collins tape I'll send you best of tapes of Gatton, breau, Scotty Anderson, Johny smith, Jimmy Bryant, Wes, Django, Christian, Farlowe, and Pass that is the best playing ever heard Master Collector. Listen to the recent release 1977 Live Danny Gatton The Humbler Stakes his Claim for some absolutely jaw dropping guitar; when Gatton burns in warp factor ten mode its nothing short of a hurricane. Master Collector

  • Danny was the best of all time!

  • I agree even though Johny Smith, Lenny Breau,Wes Montgomery, and Scottie Anderson were flawless; Danny in the 70's was the most spectacular player ever, not to mention his billions of notes and endless intricate playing. Somebody someday will hopefully come forward with video footage of Gatton in 1977, and when that happens :LOOK OUT!!! Master Collector

  • hi master collector from no2 gatton fan here in the midwest, if you are looking to get gallaghers, it's from widzvid@yahhhh

  • Thanks Nileswest1968, I have the Gallagher and tons of Gatton videos for years, but probably not the best qaulity. Thats the hard part of collecting. You can have alot of things but finding the master copy is hard. I wonder if anyone has 77 Gatton footage???

  • This is a rare clip, and since this one is out there must be more. The only other one I've seen of Danny in 70's in 78 Cellar Door black and white. Anyone out there know who has 70's Gatton footage contact me asap. mastercollector

  • What is cool Master Collector is that Danny said just before he died is that he was learning to play less! Check out the "Live" album, the last one. A guitar symphony of American music...he quotes Johhny B. Goode in the middle of Caravan..and it works!

  • Guy do you have cd's out with Danny? I'm trying to place what period of Gatton your from. Did you know Previti, Elliot, Shannon Ford, or Tim Biery? Maybe Evan Johns, Jay Monrose, Arlen Roth, Billy Windsor? mastercollector

  • Master Collector, I didn't play music with Danny...I promoted him in a show once and saw him 10x or so...His band when I saw him: Billy, Previti, Ford and Biery, Elliot, Hollaman. Jay Montrose was his guitar tech.

  • guyrichmond do you know how I can contact Tom Pricipato, Bill Kirchen and John Previti? I've talkd to Mrs. Norma Gatton(rest her soul),Jay Montrose,Dave Elliot,Billy Hancock,Billy Poore,Joe Lee,Arlen Roth,Dixie Estridge, Richard Herrington, and have been in touch with email with Evan Johns, and Ed Estridge. Billy Windsor must have been a great friend as was Jay Montrose and Ron Johnson-singer DC-known Danny since 1959 age 14!! Your a lucky man Guy!!! mastercollector-tell me more Danny stories!!

  • Principato is in DC...maybe the Eastridges know him, they are very nice and were good friends of Danny...Montrose knows how to get Previti...Bill Hollaman is playing with Johnny Hiland...last time I talked with him he had just released "Live!" it is a masterpiece!

  • Guy, do you know how I can get in touch with Bill Holloman, and Shannon Ford. They played with Danny at a 93 show Sheldon Hall in St. Louis that was a great show and I've been trying for years to get that one!!! mastercollector

  • For Shannon Ford I would call Ed or Dixie Eastridge @ Big Mo records...Bill Holloman is with Johnny Hiland now I believe...that's all I know about him...

  • Thanks Guy, at one time or another I've talked on the phone with Mrs. Norma Mousie Gatton(God Bless Her), Jay Montrose, Dave Elliot, Billy Hancock, Mrs. Previti, Arlen Roth, Billy Poore, Joe Lee, Richard Herrington, and Dixie Estridge. ALso Ive emailed back and forth alot with Ed Estridge, and Evan Johns. mastercollector

  • Hi MC,

It's Bill Holloman here. I'm not sure how all this works, but you can me write back if you like.

For whatever it's worth, I did do a record with Johnny, and he's a great player and a great guy as well. But, I'm not "with him" at this point.

I'm working with all sorts of folks, and am based (as I always was) here in CT.

That show at the Sheldon was really a lot of

fun, and one of my favorites too.

    Thanks,

    Bill

  • Bill I've been trying to contact you for a long time: THANKS!!! I really admire you alot!!! You are muli talented and I've never seen a musician with more talent all around playing sax, trumpet, and keyboards!!! I've tried to reach you and Shannon about getting a vhs copy of 93 Sheldon Hall. Thanks a million for writing; I can't believe it. Was Dannys playng better at 93 Sheldon Hall or 92 Montreal? mastercollector

  • Hi MC and Chet,Yes this is the "real" Mr Holloman, and thanks for the kind words!

I don't really remember, but I'll guess Danny's playing was better at the Sheldon simply because we were playing a lot then.

It was a great time for me..

  • BTW, I tried to say a lot more, but this thing wouldn't let me..

  • Bill go back and listen to the 92 Montreal Jazzfest especially 7 Come 11, Mustang Sally, and One For Lenny. It has to be one of Dannys greatest guitar shows along with 93Sheldon Hall, 89 Annapolis and several others. mastercollector Don

  • Hi Don,

Well I don't have anything from the Montreal show that I know of. I remember it though. We played 2 nights (out of three, the other was rained out). I just know that the Sheldon one was great. I would love to hear it though.

Sorry it's taking so long to respond. I'm having trouble with this thing..

    Thanks,

    Bill

  • Wow! If you are the real Mrs Holloman, I would like to tell all my appreciation of your work and immense talent, any musicians that played or play with you have a great privilage to share there passion with such a versatile and intense musician. best regards!chet1952.

  • It's a joke...they each have their own names on their T-shirts...Buddy Eamons has got his name oh his shirt...like a nametag, but a joke...Danny had a twisted sense of humor...

  • Please don't booooo--it's Joe Maphis! Except, I never knew Joe to use a Flanger.

  • joe maphis wearing a danny gatton shirt... maybe?

  • It's gotta be--Danny just wouldn't have been so egotistical as to wear his own name on his shirt. And the playing--it's just got to be Joe.

  • I still think this is Joe Maphis.

  • Hey, I can't see the face. I think this is Joe Maphis in the 70's.

  • Danny continues to be one of the very best there ever was!!

  • Absolutely ridiculous!!! Don't say you can't compare him to somebody else or anything. The man gives me reason to believe in God! Just a great player!!

  • Despite watching this video (and pissing myself I am so impressed), no guitarist alive or dead could touch Lenny Breau! Please do not put his name in a sentence with another player. Thank you.

  • For finess on acoustic and electric it is Lenny but for soloing on elevtric and acoustic danny was mind bogglinagly ferocious. Those 2 were definately the best all around. Scotty Anderson joins them for the 3 best ever. Just listen to the newwly released Gatton cd The Humbler Stakes his claim 1977 Live then see if you still think Lenny was the best!!!

  • hats off to danny he is my favorite guitarist of all times! lenny a close 2nd. and scotty anderson would be my 3rd choice, but gatton whoa! have you seen gallaghers live in 88 of gatton? you have to see it to believe it, its incredible what he does on guitar! also see redneck jazz live at celler door 12-31-78 master collector, totally gatton, from no1 gatton fan in the midwest.

  • Make that your the # 2 midwest Gatton fan behindme. How many video segments of Danny Gatton do you have and how many Audio recordings(cd's,cassettes)? I have 39 video segments and 73 audio segments and I'm in contact with some key Danny Gatton connections. Master Collector.

  • Check out the newly released cd Danny Gatton Live The Humbler Stakes his Claim on Powerhouse records. It's better then 1988 Gallaghers!! Anyone out there that can top me with 73 audio and 39 video of Gatton??? Master Collector

  • How many audio and video do you have of Danny Gatton? I'd like to see your list and trade. Master Collector

  • Danny was unbelieveble. Not one guitarist on the planet could outplay him. And he actually did some work with Lenny Breau.

  • hi! amosskeeter, your right, nobody could touch gatton, he was in a class all by himself, i still believe and probably always will he was the best , and lenny breau was no slouch either! p.s many so called great guitarists would try to outplay him, and danny would eat them alive and send them out the door with there tail between there legs! read his book life &times of danny, you will appreciate him even more!

  • Thats right they met in Nashville in 1070 at the pickin parlor. Yjey went to se each other play. There is a live show from 4-25-79 at the Cellar Door in DC, it's real good with alot of laughing, Danny really liked Lenny, and Lenny should have seen Danny in 1977,Danny injured his hand in 79 or 80 and lost some speed, master collector

  • Danny Gatton was incredible..I am sure that he was frustrated that so many "lesser lights" made it big...I loved his stuff..thanks for posting.

  • I can't hear that fast.....

  • Yes I agree. In 35 years of active music listening I had never ever heard someone playing guitar like Danny Gatton. Maybe he's an alien ?

  • This playing is totally sick! How on earth did he ever get so good.

  • I have never, ever seen or heard a Les Paul played like this.. Danny plays it like a red hot banjo. Amazing! R.I.P., Danny Gatton

  • Did anyone notice they're jamin to the timeless classic Foggy Mountain Breakdown by Earl Scruggs at the beginnin' ? Anyhoo that shit's on fire

  • one of the best guitar players..anywhere...anytime..hell,even Fender thinks so! He's in a class with my faves...SRV,Roy Buchanan and Leo Kottke..to name a couple.

  • gatton, lenny breau, scotty anderson could destroy buchanon, kotke, srv, hendrix, beck; you name it!!!

  • I am genuine appreciative of the kindness of BenCtree,

for his respectfully insightful commentary and for his archiving some wonderful George Jones video footage from his "flattop period" in the 1950's.

George is a very long and dear friend of mine and his

extensive body of musical work is an important part of country music and should be studiously studied and appreciated.

    Sincerely, The Legendary Danny O'Doul

  • No problem Danny O. Any friend of George Jones is a friend of mine.

  • Interestingly, The Legendary Danny O'Doul invented slap back echo, first in the autumn of '54.

  • That is interesting, but you forgot to sign it Do'D. Here, i'll do it for you

'Sincerely, and from the most modest part of my legendary self: !The ... Legendary ... Danny ... O' ... Doul!'

Where would the Gatton comments sections on youtube be without you.

  • No he didn't.

  • yes he dd!!!

  • Technically Buddy Emmons is a steel player, not a slide player.

  • and THIS is why country didn't used to suck arse.

  • is that a 16th note delay hes got going on ? Killer

  • No, it's shorter than that. It's a "Slapback" delay, very common in country music: set you delay quite short (200 ms for instance) and crank the volume quite high with almost feedback (only 1 rep) ;o)

  • Awesome slide playing too... o_o

  • you should check him out on lenny breau's album swingin on a seven string. He's featured consistently throught this album and ,, well lenny alone is priceless.

  • Gatton and Lenny Breau on record together? I'm unaware of it...name? label? where to find?

    Thanks

  • We were talking about the slide player, buddy emmons.

  • comment, how about pat martino? would you rank him in the top 3?

  • I don't put guys at the top, cause it really depends what mood i'm in, but for now i'd say top jazzer guitars are john scofield, lenny breau, and maybe martino, i could go either way with him cause rosenwinkel's really heavy.

  • no way, the top 10 for me are Gatton, Breau, Scotty Anderson, Johny Smith, Wes Montgomery, Jimmy Bryant, Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian, Tal Farlowe, and Joe Pass. mastercollector

  • No Tommy Immanuel? No Chet Atkins? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHH! :)

  • While Jimmy Bryant may have been the first master of the Telecaster, Danny Gatton was THE Telemaster! I guess it really didn't matter what type of guitar he played-he was great on everything. He's just smokin' up the fretboard of that Les Paul. Miss you man! I wish you were still here kickin'ass!

  • danny gatton was the most incredible guitarist i have ever seen in the last 50 years, and that includes jimi hendrix. gatton would blow away hendrix! lenny breau was probably the closest to gatton that there was! could you imagine lenny and danny jamming together? It would be epic! and jaw dropping!

  • they did, they met in 79 in Nashville at the pickin parlor. they used to go watch each other play. have you heard the 79 live show they did at the cellar door DC on april 25th 1979, it's great. lenny sat in with danny's band for about 5 songs. alot of laughing and enjoyement!!!gatton would blow away jimi and Ilove jimmy but gatto, breau, and scotty anderson would blow away jimi.

  • Priceless! what an amazing player!

  • of course you must be referring to the late great guitar god danny gatton, he was one of a kind and will probably never be another guitarist like gatton again.
