I don't like the story of MW2, the Americans turning against you, That will leave the British...F**ked the 2 super powers of the world, USA and Russia, Not only fighting each other, but are aganst your at the end, BETRAYAL ! But the Scots (Price n McTavish/Soap) made it through with Nikoli at the end when you kill Shepard !

War and battle isn't about one side beating the other. There's more damage than that. You can destroy civilian lives and other countries in the process, including your own. When you join a war, you always risk invasion. You and your enemy could literally wipe eachother out at the same time. That's what the quote means.
