Excellent musician. I remember him playing with his band, Butler, back in the late seventies or early eighties, sitting on a stool on stage with a cast on his foot. Club name was Le Papillon, legendary.
only a few greats can take a monster song and mellow it out and not lose the intensity. Johnny Cash, David Gilmour... and for all the idiots saying this song isn't the same without Geddy.. Peter Fredette is not only a great musician but he has an awesome vocal range.
This is a Max Webster Tune not a Rush or Geddy Lee tune so no need to be confused sure Geddy Lee is on the cover version but it's still a Kim Mitchell song
@paljoeyonce I didn't because I was too young. But it is still one of my biggest life regrets. I try not to think about it too much. Shit, did you have to bring it up?
The TEMPO is "adagio" (66-76 BPM) or maybe even Larghetto (60-66 BPM). yes, they are covering it a bit slow by a few beats. Battlescar, Ah Leah, (Donnie Iris), are a 2 of the best GD songs ever written in those years. I think Dan Acroyd said it best in the opening dialog of soul man when the Blues Brothers were touring :
.."by 1985 music will consist only pre-programed electronic disco, so relax and enjoy while you still can".....
Kim Mitchell is one of my favorite guitar players of all time. I remember seeing Max Webster open for Rush on "A Farewell to Kings" tour and they were unbelievable!
My first rock concert was Kim Mitchell and Haywire in Saskatoon back in '86. Pete was on guitar in those days. Kim and Pete were trading leads. They did a double lead attack on "Thats a man". It was Awsome! To this day, still one of the best concerts i've ever seen. Trully two of rocks most underrated guitarists.
Peter has one of the best pure Rock 'n Roll voices I've ever heard. Together, Pete and Kim have one of the most recognizable harmonies in Canadian Rock History.
That is Chris Sutherland on drums. Kim has been using Chris and also Sean Kilbride from Haywire as well when Chris is not available. Both talented drummers!
kind of looks like geddy on bass. got to see these guys open for rush twice

Guy on bass is Paul Butler.
Excellent musician. I remember him playing with his band, Butler, back in the late seventies or early eighties, sitting on a stool on stage with a cast on his foot. Club name was Le Papillon, legendary.

@ww3187
Of course!
WTF was I thinking? Or should I say smoking?
I got confused with the band name Butler.
You are right, it's Peter Fredette, awesome voice and musician.
Thanks man for the correction.

why isn't the non rush version heavy as fuck? :(

@phenrontin you have to listen to more than the first 30 seconds. By the 3:30, they're cranking it out pretty heavy.

Been in jail for a thousand years / found a fist in an empty field
Only quarters for meals / feel the way i feel...
C (KIM & GEDDY)
Bust the busters / screw the feeders / make the healers / feel the way i feel
GEDDY:
Tried to understand the white man's fears
Make 'em bend but they wouldn't yield
Uncle sam's time is only a greased wheel / feel the way i feel--

Whoa, it was better than i thought. The lack of geddy-ness wasn't that bad.

It's nice to read all this talkin' up Peter. He is one talented dude, definitely. Him and Kim are one of Canada's greatest musical duos.
Mitchell rocks HARD, and when he doesn't, he serenades us with one of his pristine pop-rock jams or heartfelt ballads. Endless gratitude to the man.
Thanks, Kim.
