  • hi alex, i try to set my points but when i start him he runs 5 sec then he makes a 'plof' sound and he shuts down..

what i need to do ? must they open faster of later ?

    thnx!

  • Thanks for the vid Alex... good job!

  • Hi alex! i desperatly need some help..i have the flyweel at the F and make sure my points are closed..until the T mark they open and my bike starts ok..but i cant Rev it up it shokes and goes of..i have tried 2 carbs and its the same..what can this be??the point are new!!

  • @retrogazele

Is this a Z50R motor? You could have a bad condenser. You could also try going up to .020, or even down to .010 on your gap and see if that helps. These are solid mount stators, so the only timing you can do is through the points gap itself. Also, new plug? Good gas? No air leaks from the carb to the intake? All things that need to be checked.

  • you hooked it up on the bench to run without the battery ? could you do a step by step vid for that plz ?

  • @IrnMaiden304

You don't need a battery as long as the coil is grounded to the motor. Simply do as he did... where the coil bolts to the frame, run a wire from there to a ground point on the motor. This creates a closed circuit. To cut the engine, pull the wire from the engine, or just pull off the plug boot. This can be done with ANY engine that's not fuel-injected.

  • @notdansuper Yeah I seen i was getting spark but a couple other factors shown me more, so I'm just going to rebuild it. Watching more of his video's has got me on the war path to doing an 88cc or a 108cc build.

  • i had a atc70 with this motor and the woodruf key would always strip (shear). why does this happen and how do you fix it?

  • is the felt pad for points a must? i cant get it off old points for new points...so is it a big deal?

  • this help me out alot....i recently replaced the stators and battery and points because it came with stator kit, but i was unsure how to set points so searched it and found ur vid and now im gonna try it out.... it runs but backfires alot and will eventually die out and wont start back up and not to mention the engine is really tired and it smokes outt the flyweel outer cover and the engine vibrates prob from worn rings or piston

  • I could not set my points today on my 1970 Honda ST70. I was sooooooo pissed. I watched you and I was riding in 1/2 hour. Thanks Man. I was about to get my hammer out!

  • the tools you use were like golden for me long time ago :) I was setting the points for that engine using only my eyes, most times worked but sometimes u could see fire sparks off the excaust :)

  • lol this is me 15 years ago i missed that good times.. We used to buy the platines (points) for 1 pound i remember. All day long opening and closing that Chaly CF50 and modding it with C70 parts and losing summers under the basement like greased monkeys. thanks for the video my friend means a lot

  • i mean how do u get the side cover off

  • how did u get the side cover over the z50r with out stripping the phillips screws? and how would u get the screws out if they are stripped?

  • BUY IT!!

  • nice

  • good man, nice vid

  • Nice video! My first bike was a Z50 and my second was a DS80! This video makes me miss them

  • hey alex i have a 3 speed semi clutch honda does the fly wheel have a key or do i have to guess the timing ? im trying to change my stator plate

  • Would this work for a 1975 kawasaki g4tr? (kv100). It ran fine, then came to the point i would need to refill gas, and it wouldent start back up. replaced coil. I think its the points.

  • Can you make a video or just some pictures on how you made this engine stand ?

  • hello i was wondering how you had the wire hooked up to start it on the bench

  • how did u hook up the wires to spark

  • Hey Alex, i have a 1985 honda ct70. i just bought a new carb and put it on.. bike starts fine and revs fine, but when riding there is a loss of power that starts and stops and it sputters.. can it be the points???

  • I have a 1979 KAWASAKI KZ 1000 LTD. My bike starts perfect and idles fine. When I hit the gas in neutral it revs up fine to the red line just fine but when im driving it there is a total loss of power. Could that be the points?? It ran good then all the sudden there is a loss of power when I hit the gas while driving.

  • @scottsamonek My guess: to little gas, I would check whole gas system (from tank to carb) and check the points.. sounds like the Puch flu my bike caught :)

  • @dadygee Hey thanks for the advice but the bike started running great a short while after. I set the points and cleaned them but that didnt fix it. It must have had a blockage in the petcock because that inner coating in the gas tank is peeling off. I need to clean the tank and get that crap outta there.

  • Far Out ! I would love to work with you . I found a 73 Yamaha Enduro, mostly garaged with 1500 miles on it. (Of course i bought it). It sputters -but runs at higher rpm before shifting speed. My suspision is to put new points, condensor which took a long time to find not to mention the puller. I dont know where Im going with this..... Using the guage, is it incorrect to put the guage in the points, retighten the points then pull it out, or let pnts compress on the ga, tighten, then pull it out

  • Great video, can you give instruction how to put back the flywheel? thanks.

  • Great video. Can you give instruction on how to put back the flywheel?

  • hey man. i have a 1982 honda ct70 and when i put it in gear and give it gas, it just bogs out. it idles fine and sometimes revs good in neutral but not in gear. what could be the problem???? im figuring points or dirty carb??

  • Its a dirty carb man, at least thats what i think, i have a 1983 honda CT70 that has no spark, ive tried everything

  • @RedNeckBoy37 start at the plug and work your way through the system. get new points and condenser ,plug, plug wire , etc

  • @MaritimerMitch i dont get all the wiring at the back of the bike, theres a wire coming out of the coil that i dont know where it goes, then the green wire with the loop, ive tried 2 coils, i cleaned the points and condencer, new spark plug

  • @RedNeckBoy37 follow it. unbolt the motor out of the frame so its easier to work with. its a pain in the ass working with it in the frame. i hate how everything is inside the frame under the gas tank. im gonna tear all the wiring for the lights and horn and junk off mine and only keep the nessecary wiring for the kill switch etc

  • @MaritimerMitch yeah i want all the horn lights and ect wires out of mine too and yeah ill ripp the motor out of mine right now, but the kill switch and stuff is all together, does it matter if i have a kill switch while im trying to get spark?

  • @RedNeckBoy37 no you can unhook the wires . just make sure they arent touching when your looking for spark. if the wires are touching, it will be like the kill switch is on. on my bike, i dont have a key so i unhooked the ignition

  • @MaritimerMitch Thanks for all your time man, but i actully got it to spark, i found the main spark wire coming out of the points and attached the coil wire to it cuz i belive the kill and ignition is screwed, but thanks alot

  • @RedNeckBoy37 ya my enigne is messed to. i think i got low spark voltage. and i need rings lol, so my plugs are fouling easy. im gonna do a ring job and replace some parts like points, plug, plug wire, etc. just clean er up. shes nothing special but id like her to look good

  • Hey i have the same motor as what you showed there and it has NO spark what so ever, i was wondering how you hooked all the wiring up on it to make it spark, i get how to clean the points but i just need to know what wires i need to hook up to make it spark, please reply back on this, thank you

  • fuckkkk,.. i wisjh i would seen this video before i sold my ke 100 cuz this is wat the guy did and got it runnin

  • heyyy man ive gota 100 pit bike demon x and it makes a little knocking noise from the flywheel could that mean i need to reset my points thanks make more cool vids

    regards jack

  • I doubt it. I've never seen a Honda copy use points, they all copy the newer design with CDI. Knocking is probably something worse.

  • yay lol i havent got the flywheel off yet to have a look i have a fealing that somin has got down behind it thanks anyway

    regards jack

  • @JACKSVIDO It could be that the flywheel is warped. just check it out and see if you can watch it while its runninh

  • i have an 03 xr 50 that has a broken clutch cover from the previous owner stunting it....would you happen to know what would be the cheapest fix? do you know of any Chinese clutch cover that would work? any info would help..been searching ebay with no luck though

  • dude you sound just like dave from davidsfarm when he does his points! lol you said like the exact same thing, WEIRD, but cool! check out his video were he does it it is his 3 newest one

  • hey alex i have a 1987 honda xl600r and ive been trying to find a new flywheel because the person who had it before me didnt put it in right so its kinda messed up, anyway ive been looking for a new one but all the oem flywheels are out of stock. Do you know of any good websits were i can get them?

    -xl600rdude

  • I don't know of any site that would specifically sell XL600 parts or things like that. All I can say is keep an eye out on eBay.

  • k thanks man, keep the ysr updates coming!
