  • Film has a wider dynamic range than digital.

Ie it picks out details in dark areas that a digital camera loses. Film has a lot of plus points as does digital.

The killing drawback of film is its cost getting your photos developed.

If you do test out an old camera just do a test roll and get it developed first.

Anything wrong will be obvious straight away.

  • Does The Pentax k1000 and k1000 SE the same?

  • I waaaant *--*

  • Got mine for 45 on ebay. i spent 96 bucks, i got 15 rolls of film, the camera strap, a cheapo body hole cover thingey, and my grandma had an old zoom lense :D

  • It's film. No flash. Needs no batteries.

  • i was gonna buy this k1000 but found a canon ae1 for next to nothing....

i do like how the k1000 can be operating with no batteries...

  • You speak way too fast dude! Great video but slow down

  • I just got mine from a flea market for 17.50! :)

  • THANK YOU. I just pulled my fathers old Pentax out of the attic and am excited about giving it life again! My only memories of it are clicking away when it had no film in it, so I needed to know how the dials were used properly and most importantly, how to load it properly. This video helped me 100%!! My only problem now is, I guess, the very outer ring of my 50mm lens is loose and jiggles in place. Will this harm the photos?

  • why does it say asahi on the camera?

isnt that an asian beer manufacturer??

  • mine cost me 18 lol

  • Don't touch the shutter!

  • Just picked this camera up for $30 and it came with tons of filters and 3 lenses and film. The film is kodak tri-x pan. Not sure how old the film is. It was sold from a store called "Gibson". Do you think the film is ok to use?

  • @emaster144241 You can probably still use the film. The exposurs balance might not be good, though. Most pro photo labs still process b&w film. If you want a cheap way to try b&w type film, try the chromogenic C-41 stuff. They are made by Kodak as TC400N, and ILFORD's XP2. I personally like the Kodak, as it's available in drug stores and photo shops, while ILFORD is strictly a niche brand. The ILFORD is more like true b&w film, IMO.

  • Finally to ALL Film SLR owners, You can PUSH-Process your Films, depending on the Film Manufacturers Film Specifications on "Push-Processing Films". Use this in Conjunction with"Hypering or Hypersensitizing Film and Super CO2(Carbon Dioxided Super Chilling of ALL Colour and B&W Films). Now, you will realize that Analog Film is NOT Dead yet,Digital SLR Photography now requiring Major CS4 or CS5 Photoshop Exact Science Processng in the Digital Pro-DSLR Categories of the 24.5 to33 MegaPixel ranges!

  • Can anyone explain to me how to operate bulb mode on pentax k1000? When I select Bulb mode and press the shutter, the shutter does'nt stay open.

  • Actually ISO -standard is supposed to report both ASA and DIN numbers, for example ISO 400/27. Modern camera makers are just raping the standard

  • I found a PentaxK1000 for $3.99 at a local thrift store and it appears to be clean and in good working condition.

  • Excellent introduction to photography! :D

  • @LuCoraL4 I bought mine from a garage sale for 5 ^.^

  • at 5:48 F/22 22 is not the focal length, F is focal length divide it by 22, so 50/22=2.3 and 2.3 is the aperture in miller meter.

  • @Rotten3ullet In the video I'm referring to the ratio of aperture size to focal length, not the actual physical measurement. So in your example it would be the aperture size of 2.27 divided by the focal length, 50, which would be 2.27/50, which is an equivalent fraction to 1/22.

  • i found a mint early k1000 in my loft, now all my friends are jealous, it takes such good photos :)

  • Thanks, was very useful in just getting across the basics. I'm eying up a cheap K1000 at the moment online.

  • canon ae-1 beeeooottchsss

  • canon a-1 beeeeeotchhssss!

  • Yes I agree, this is one of the best, most concise guides that I have read so far, thank you. Now to buy some film.

  • What an excellent tutorial. Thanks.

  • Great video...EXTREMELY helpful....THANKS!

  • DON'T TOUCH THE SHUTTER. Haha this video is very helpful.

  • Great video, Great info! where can I buy a camera strap that holds film like yours? I've looked online and on eBay still nothing. Thank you.

  • @guardaltec Most older camera straps such as ones from the 90's and earlier will have the loops in the straps. So try searching for some "vintage" straps on eBay.

  • Very helpful. I've got a Ricoh KR-5. Very similar to the K-1000 to use.

  • Even though I use a dSLR, I still believe that film has a more authentic nature to it. This was really great, thank a million.

  • Great video. Where can I get that neck strap with the roll holder? I've looked in eBay and no luck.

  • thanks this is very helpful

  • so helpful thankyou!

  • someone please help, i cant change my shutter speed.

  • i got my mom's old pentax with a normal and telephoto lens

  • Got that same pantex camera for 25 bucks

  • I can't upload the film, someone tell me why :/

  • It's a good idea, to make video like that.

There's one thing, i want to add: i think, the rubber lens hood will be very useful.

  • Thank you. Clear, to the point, answers the questions that would naturally come up if I were looking over a camera. Good job!

  • hey thanks for this video, just bought my k1000 on ebay and getting to grips with it before college starts in a few days!!

  • Hey thanks! I just picked this same camera for $10 at a good will. It came with the same lens two flashes, and a half way nice bag. Its not in like cew condition, But it's still in nice shape, just a few small cosmetic blemishes. I almost poo'd myself when I saw it was only 10 bucks LOL!

  • I need a 35mm film slr camera for my high school photography class and pentax k1000 is on of the acceptable ones. I was wondering if I could use a canon eos 35mm film slr because I believe my uncle has that camera and that would save me money. please help!! thanks :)

  • I just got a k1000 with a 50mm lens from a antique store for $50 :D

  • @GalaticTG i dont mean to brag but i just got the same thing at a thrift store for 5 bucks

  • @GalaticTG Great buy!

  • @GalaticTG Lucky

  • @GalaticTG I got the same one that came with 50mm lens, 136mm lens, lens cleaning paper (50), brush (staticmaster), case, batteries, and two filters for $14 at a thrift shop and it works like new and was in perfect condition c:

  • @GalaticTG i just got a k1000 with a 50mm lens from a buddy for $10 :D

  • @GalaticTG I got one for free from my great grandad with a flash and two lenses :D

  • @GalaticTG I just got one from Value Village for $8!

  • sweet thanks.

  • Very helpful tutorial! Thanks

  • Wow, it´s really a crash course, lots of info at once! One thing though, the 35mm reffers to the width of the roll of film, the picture frame is 24 x 36mm. The K1000 is an excellent camera and specially as a beginner's choice, I would also advice to buy a case for the camera and maybe a standard zoom lens (28-80mm or similar) with a case if possible. Also, NEVER touch the mirror or the focusing screen or the lens, and buy a UV filter and a lens cap to protect and so the battery doesn't drain.

  • you are amazing thanks alot

  • this is great!!

  • Thank you so much! I have 2 old pentax's that are my dads & he gave me one. I just need to buy film to get started.

  • great vid

  • Very helpful, I will save this. I have decided to go old-fashion and learn the basics, hope to win a AE-1 Cannon SLR on ebay to get started.

  • @artcat21 Greats cameras both the Pentax K1000 and the Canon AE-1, got both of them, although I think th Pentax is better for learning because its fully manual & mecanical and has a match needle type photometer instead of the aperture indicator needle of the AE-1. Good luck with that!

  • Thank you so, soo much! I wasn't sure on how unloading.

  • Excellent video! Thanks!

  • This is easily THE most informative tutorial on photography on youtube!

  • thank you :) I just got exactly the same camera, and your movie, made everything clearer to me:)

  • Thank you!

  • @killerlipsonrai your welcome! I'm glad someone is getting some use out of this video.

  • @mrjon2069

Yeah, it was great. Thanks man. Now I'll just have to get my hands on a Pentax K1000 in a good condition, which is actually pretty tough; been trolling ebay for hours looking for good and legitimate deals.
