as a kid I didn't think twice about this song...then my older brother turned the age of not believing, and this song would make me cry. Later I cried because I thought I'd lost him forever and I wondered "where did all the happy endings go, where could all the good times be?" Many years later, he finally believed again that there was something wonderful in him, and now I cry at this song because of how redemptive it is.
So basically...I'm a human hosepipe whenever it comes on, haha.
Those who enter the age of not believing are cursed to be drowsy, half concious teenagers who think the newest song is the coolest thing in the world. Fight against non belief. Listen to this song, and together we shall believe forever! :D x
I don't believe it! Yet another song that wasn't on my old VHS of this film when I was a kid. That makes about 4 I've found so far. The end credits didn't have that 'Home Guard' song on, etc. Why did they edit out so much?
@WeaselKing1000 There was an edition of this film that came out where they got rid of most of the songs in it so that is probably the version you have.
@mustang11387 Yeah, I looked it up and that seems to be the case. This song in particular is very craftily edited out...they'll use one shot in the scene but not the next one. The only bits of this that are in my version are the shots of Charlie (apart from "what's that s'posed to be, poetry?", cos that refers to the song); and Miss Price saying "Everyone on the bed who's going", and "the knob, Paul" (both times the shot quickly changes so it doesn't show any singing). Oh dear : /
this is how i feel about pretty much everyone i meet. Everyone is so trapped inside their own mind, thinking they have to be 'grown ups' im always going to believe!
parents and school with their immaturity teach kids that growing up is about doing the opposite of what is preached recklessly, becoming cynical and cold-hearted. The bad thing is that grown-ups are the least to know something about growing up. Growing up is not about becoming cold, cynical and stuck up, it's about doing what you think is right not easy, being who you want to be, stand for your ideas. Growing up should actually improve our ability to believe and dream
@jarvisel Same, it reminds me of my childhood so much, It makes me kinda sad :(, I used to watch this movie like every week from 2-6 years old, good times...kinda get that eerie feeling from the song.
We taped this off the Disney Sunday movie like 20 years ago, and years later (still kind of long ago) I discovered that they cut this song out (except the instrumental version) of the broadcast, presumably to make it fit the airtime (in other words, so that they could cram two more commercials in). The song doesn't fit so seamlessly into the story, but it's just such a good song nevertheless. I was so upset. I'm glad it wasn't lost to time.
k, so you totally cut out the best part... lol, the bit where they're flying around on the bed to a jazzed up version of "The Age of Not Believing", right after this scene, is THE BEST PART. Why the fuck'd you cut it out!? D:
I'm twenty-three and this was...heck, still is, my favorite Disney movie EVER. I used to watch it at my aunt's house every time I went over and finally my mom bought me the movie. I watched it so much I wore the tape out!
I love reading how many people at 23 and under who love this movie. Im in my 30s and remember seeing it in the theater and loving it. My nieces and nephers have never heard of it, such tragedies must be rectified!
I'm only 20 and I think this movie is amazing. My grandma has made sure I saw all the older classics and be able to appreciate them the way my mother and her sisters remembered also when the films first came out :)
My God--I adore this movie...still! Ive reached 20 and can still remember the words to the songs from when I was a kid! Angela Lansbury will always be my favorite!!! Love her~!
I used to see this movie in my grandmother house and when it finished I put it again. I have this movie in BETA video! can you imagine it? BETA video!
A wonderful song and so true sung by one of the most marvellous voices of this century, Angela Lansbury's !Thank you very much for sharing it with us.

This sounds like she sung the song live as they filmed. There's something about Lansbury's voice that is so uniquely wonderful.
