  • Martial arts can't turn you in to a fighter. All it can do is train you in techniques you can use to defend yourself more effectively in a certain situation. My instructor was always very adamant that my actions be second nature and not a well thought out plan of attack. After all, in a life and death situation you do not have time to decide what the best plan of defense will be. Your body should know what to do instinctively. This is why kata is so important- muscle memory.

  • Samurai did Judo.

  • @killerclown789 Samurais did Jiu-Jitsu..

  • @danesrawesome Judu is streamlined Jiu-Jitsu. They would have done a lot of throws from Judo, but yes, you are correct.

  • @killerclown789 Are you retarded? Samurais did NOT do Judo, Judo was invented in 1882 by Jigoro Kano and Judo means "the gentle way".

  • @AHoboHuggingLlama They did Jiu-Jitsu which contains most of the throws used in Judo. They would have used Judo throws in battle, but at that time they would have done Jiu Jitsu throws.

  • @AHoboHuggingLlama nearly all the throws are the same

  • This is bs, I'm sorry. The premise of this video is basically that judo guys and gals (myself included) are too stupid to know when and when not to perform a judo throw. We practice throwing for thousands of hours, every kind of positioning, hand, arm, elbow, wrist and head control, and yet we will just turn and throw RIGHT INTO AN OPEN KNIFE ATTACK. Yep. Also, we have no control whatsoever on how we land after throwing and we can't just throw you any way we damn well please.

  • @wrathVchild it will work on street noobs most likely.

  • @wrathVchild I don't think that he's trying to say anyone is stupid, just that there are variations to tournament technique that would better serve street situations. I'm a karate guy myself, so I'm not saying tournament judo technique has no place in the street, but I do think there is value for any martial art in posing "what if" questions about applications outside the dojo or tournament settings. Highly experienced martial artists such as yourself will usually develop a knack for adapting.

  • @guchikura You are right. Martial arts is taught, usually, in a traditional way, showing you the traditional techniques of it's style. It is up to you to personalize your fighting style. Bruce Lee said it best:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.

  • @wrathVchild if you can clinch on an untrained grappler, you will throw them ,no doubt. However ,it will need to be closer than a judo clinch and get there without getting plastered with a punch, something judoka never practise. The way it was done in old school gracie jujitsu is the most effective way to clinch on a non grappler.

  • @scarred10 You are assuming that every Judo dojo teaches only tournament Judo. This is not true. We even train topless on occasions so that we don't become dependent on clinching. In fact, we also train in striking techniques. At it's inception Judo was not a sport and, in fact, originated from jiu-jitsu that was used on the ancient battlefields of Japan to pacify armored samurai.

  • You can do chokes in judo. How come no one gets choked out with doing ippon sionage?

  • @bighefjeff too good to fall for it and maybe this video is aimed at a wide audience? I don't know.

  • @bighefjeff since it is usually done by experienced judokas, it is done much too quickly for someone to be able to land a choke

  • @bighefjeff coz you'll be slammed on your back while trying to choke

  • That's one thing I don't like about judo. The effective techniques are way too dangerous. Throwing people on their head and neck on concrete can kill a person. The not so effective techniques are too complicated against a skilled opponent. My teacher showed me some judo techniques but he also cautioned as last resort. In my opinion, judo is way too dangerous in real life, it's a lot safer to just knock the other guy out instead.

  • @GetDamage " Throwing people on their head and neck on concrete can kill a person"...LMAO and striking someone in the head hard enough to knock them out is not dangerous to them MANY people have died from head strikes and trauma! If you don't know that then You have watched too much TV! Combat is combat and it is dangerous for all combatants...Your goal should be to survive..PERIOD! I wonder what form of fighting arts you study, and does it involve pillows?

  • @GetDamage Naturally your teacher is going to say that, he does'nt want his students going around crippling people. But if you're minding your own business and you're attacked, don't worry about just use what you know to defend yourself. But don't osoto gari your drunk friend into the pavement if he calls you a pussy.

Also, it's easier to say to cops "I don't know, we were wrestling and he kinda fell" then, "this guy got in my face so I knocked him out".

  • Great Video

  • he can still stab u on 2 on 1 throw
