@lukeseti NZ is a small country but wind farms require 300 times more land than conventional power plants to produce the same amount of electricity and there are paramters around each turbine that takes extra space. But maybe NZ is an example of where renewables might work with low populations? Places like China & India are a different story. India has announced it is building a thorium reactor by 2020 which can't melt down & is safe from earthquake, tsuanami, terrorists or human error.
@lukeseti I don't care if New Zealand goes nuclear but here in Canada we can't get all our power from wind because of our large population and industry. I am not against wind power if the turbines are place away from peoples homes. Secondly our nuclear reactors are surrounded by a two meter concrete wall strong enough to withstand a jet crashing into them.
@lukeseti I am not sure what is happening in New Zealand but here in Canada the wind mills that the Libs are building will not generate a small fraction of what nuclear generates. Believe me the Libs (or Republican as they are called in US) are not going to get rid of nuclear. Secondly our power plants are designed to with stand a 747 crashing into them. Finally a CANDU reactor has never had a nuclear meltdown.
@lukeseti There is no study because it has never been studied and even if it had it would just reflect the bias of the politicians. There is no study because the Libs are just pushing things through without a care for people health. Why can't they find an area away from people homes for there turbines? People are reporting negative effect from wind turbines therefore there are negative health affects to wind. Secondly our nuclear power plants are the safest in the world.
@lukeseti It dose not matter if I can build my own nuclear power plant. That is a red herring fallacy. The fact is that these wind turbines are making people sick. Yes some people are not affected by wind turbines but some are. It is the same thing with sea sickness. Just because some people are not effected does not mean everyone is not effected.
Fuel from 50 years of nuclear reactor operation fits in a single football field, amounting to 77,000 tons (1,540 tons per year). We discard 179,000 tons of batteries per year in the United States and they contain toxic heavy metals. I know Germany is spending billions of dollars on energy storage technology research but this will probably just be a huge battery. Is it possible that for renewables to be efficient enough they will be producing just as much waste as nuclear?
@GodlessManitoban Thanks for your quick response. You don't happen to know how often the small batteries need to be replaced in these wind turbines do you? Thanks for your video by the way.
This is utterly horrible.Scotland is currently being carpeted in 495ft turbines.They are symbols of greedy energy companies.The largest one in Europe nearly completed by SSE with 152 of these monsters destroying wild land.

WORLD RECORD: BIGGEST WIND TURBINE
windturbinecarriedbywheels.weebly.com
ZERO-NOISE from the gears and the generator because they are silenced underground (Only the outer parts of the turbine may create sound.).
This SAVES THE BIRDS AND BATS (since slow-moving) and helps the wind energy companies (since it is FREE FOR ALL.).

I am not sure. I guess only time will tell.
The power produced at wind farms here is added to a grid from hydro electric generation. As far as I know.

So what's better, nuclear power or wind power?

Didn't have one. Just glad the propeller didn't fall on my head.

Might help to turn on CC (Closed Captioning).
It was a windy day standing by a turbine that makes even more wind.

looks amazing.

@solve809
It is especially up close. From a distance it doesn't look like much.

That turbine is inefficient.
Look up the Japanese new prototype
3 times as efficient. I've Favorited a video on my channel.

At about 0:18 on that moxnews video. It says the main problem is the inefficiency and noise :p

i actually like the sound they make
good little documentary

@aerobique
Yes there are a lot of them.
I like the sound too. Plus if you're indoors you'd never hear it.
