It may sound a little off but I like to compare my people, Native Americans, to the Irish People. Culturaly and historically, we are practically the same people. My people, the Lakota a.k.a. the Sioux (french word for snake" ) have endured the same hardships as the Irish yet maintain a great sense of identity. I consider them extended family across the sea. I must say that I find that very interesting. I grew up as an Irish person in Wyoming. My hometown was next to an Arapahoe Reservation and my friends from the resrvation often talked with me about the similarities between the Arapaoe and Irish cultures.
