lived right by a big ranch in FL, used to go to the ranch house sometimes, was like Bonanza in the south, remembered the foreman's son had one, I thought it was so cool, that ranch is now a Mall and condos and shopping centers and restaurants, sad to see and the ranch was started by one of the Florida Founders, golden days
Ha very nice man... I've started collecting older toys and have come across some good finds at thrift stores, yard sales, ebay as well... Look out for a "newer" toy made by Tyco in 1993 called Gorzak, voice command to walk, turn right, use his axe, break his chains very fun beast of a toy!
I wish I still had mine. I wonder if anyone had the foresight to buy & save about a dozen of them and just stow them away on opened in the box. That could have been a very wise move. I wore out some batteries on this dude when I was about 6 or 7.

I remember seeing this in the window of a dept. store and on tv and would have given my right arm to get it for Christmas. I guess it was too much money for my folks at the time. But I did get Mr. Machine 3 months earlier after I got out of the hospital.
I used to live in a small rural Coal mining town in WV, and my folks bought me King Zor either 62 or 63. My father had gotten a bonus as a coal miner and bought King Zor for me and a Metal Doll House for my sister, (she was 8 yrs older than me) I remember having hours of fun playing with King Zor on their old hard wood floors. I'm 52 now and just recently started looking for some of the old toys I had as a kid. I found one at a yard sale for $75, missing too many parts so I passed on it..
Was there a toy even remotely similar to this which had eyes that lit up and would growl? Same time period, early 60s. I know when I was age 4 or 5, the son of a family friend had something like this in a darkened basement, turned it on and I was TERRIFIED! Scared the everlovin bejeezus out of me. It may indeed have been King Zor, but with it being dark, I dunno how I would have seen it (unless it was very dimly lit).
I remember using the dart gun and how it seemed to be stunned and confused when hit. Although its legs and arms were never really hurt, my baby brother still refuses to speak with me. Somehow, I don't think King Zor would've been nearly as fun.
back in the 70s i had a kind of rip-off rok-em sok-em robot game, but i liked it way better. the 2 fighters were sculpted similar to the way nutty-mads looked. they had big bruiser bodies and bulgy eyes. They kind of looked like those big cigar-chomping toughguy baseball players on that old bugs bunny cartoon. also this toy came with a record you could play. the record was a cheering crowd as if they were watching the fighting match.
this toy contains a mystery for me because when my mom heard the record, there was something on there she didn't like and she took it away from me and stuck it up in a high shelf where i couldn't get it. then years later it disappeared and was gone forever.
i've been looking for ages to find it again and i don't know the name of it so it's difficult to find. it may have been in a sears catalog in the seventies because that's where we did all our christmas shopping.
This is awesomely cool. thanks for sharing your old toys with us. the next best thing to owning one myself is getting to see it in action anytime i want here on youtube.
My pleasure. I'm glad you enjoy the vids. Wow, you described a toy I've never heard of! I'm familiar with Nutty Mads and if they were based on Nutty Mads then the toy you describe would have to be made by Marx Toys. I suggest you check out ebay on a regular basis to try and find it.
Thanks for the reply. I don't know whether or not it is a Nutty Mad. That's just the only thing i could think of to describe its appearance. I keep checking ebay but i think it's a lost cause unless I can find out the name.
begged my Dad for one, he thought it was ridiculous, too expensive, in my old Sears catalog they were $11.99.....he thought my $11 Erector set was too high....:D
hey, dezurtdude, i had one that i had to sell back in early nineties for around 400;00. i also had the game with little blue, orange, etc dino pieces. my other one, i had gotten christmas 1961. that got or rather met with an accident. what i liked about zor, were his marble like eyes.he was one of my favorite dinosaur toys. i wouldnt mind getting again,though...i am sure his price tag would be prohibitive these days. maybe one day...i will get lucky;who knows?your's looks to be in great shape.
You can still get one and the prices haven't climbed as much as you think. I know a guy who buys them and repairs them. Let me know, and I'll hook you up with him.
Wow! Pretty high tech for '62!

I had one of these but we didn't get it until 1965 from a discount store. So it wasn't expensive.

LOL. If he only knew what it costs today to get one! But, $11.00 was a lot of money back in the early 60's.
