Way to go Mackie! I really want the new DL1608. My question is, are you going to include the iPad in the set-up? If not, I know how much an iPad costs, so how much does this mixer cost, or an estimated price range? My reason is, I've been considering your Onyx 1640i/16 channel firewire mixer. It reatails for $1499.99, so if going this route will save me money, I'm all for it! I'm super impressed with the wireless capabilty as well as the USB flashdrive technology!

Mackie has always made GREAT gear for the price with my only actual complaint being the CFX line of bar mixers... but I can forgive them for that one.. lol

My only question is what would you do with "up to 10 ipads" I can see 2 *(foh and monitor mixer) or alternatively 7 (FOH and one for each aux mix) but, in the latter exapmple, what would you use the other 3 for? my guess is its 20 b/c thats how many you get on one chip via wifi, and not necessarily b/c you can put the extra 3 to use..

I bought a PreSonus StudioLive back in May of 2009, a solid year before the iPad even existed. And now I can mix via an iPad. Other than the price point, how is this better?

@mattaudio Footprint is a big difference. The DL1608 is the smallest 16-channel mixer out there.

Going wireless with the StudioLive means you also have to bring your laptop along.

Using the iPad as the central interface allows us to update the functionality of the DL1608 in ways simply not possible with hardware.

You can't just add more buttons to a physical mixer. Less moving parts equals more reliability. Even the best piece of gear will eventually need replacement parts under normal use.

Info on Mackie's site is scarce - why no built-in wi-fi, when wi-fi is required to operate the product? Do we get external sends? And, for this "live mixer", is there a 24-channel view on the iPad to prevent the need to search through pages of 8 channels at a time just to cut a channel that's feeding back? Can I pfl to my headphones somehow? Remote controllable digital mixers aren't new, but tight iPad integration is - I hope you have done a good job. You certainly did on the video!

Translation: Theres an entire universe for after-market products for iOS devices and hardly none for Android because every Android device is a little different physically.
