  • They always said the P-51 and Spit could go over 600 mph in a full pitch dive. Don't know if that's true or not but lots were found crashed without wings and no battle damage. My first

father-in-law was an RCAF spit pilot with the RAF. All he ever told me was those planes were very fast and he used to do aerobatics etc. I have his RAF watch.

  • It was only by the suggestion of a British test pilot who suggested that the Merlin would be a natural engine for the Mustang. Just imagine if that event had not happened?

  • those engine sounds give me chills

  • 5 people are German WW2 vets.

  • P51 MUSTANG, TANK BUSTER!

  • Sound of that Merlin is like a drug!

  • C R A Z Y

  • And that's how you mow the lawn!

  • just, wow....

  • Messerschmitt BF-109 has better sound!!!!!

  • my monitorrrrrrrr

  • Cadillac of the air! awesome.

  • An American designed fighter plane with a British designed engine. This was a combination that was a major component of the Allied success in the war against Nazi Germany.

  • That's all fine and good but DON"T YOU DARE CRACK IT UP!

  • LOVE air shows but after all the accidents that continue to happen, next time I go I'll be sure to stand back a little further away from the normal viewing area.

  • @hootyhaha If you're going to do that then what's the point in going. May as well have someone video it for you and watch it at home. Get as close as you can and enjoy it. Think of it from the pilots point of view. These guys know that if they die that day they at least died doing something they LOVE and so did you. Air shows are the BEST and I will continue to get as close as I can, regardless.

  • @hootyhaha or bring an umbrella........ LOL

  • wanna here engine music?

    /watch?v=lsjTUuxDzTc

    nothing beats a messerschmitt

  • a fedex guy brought me here

  • Me too!!! LOL!!

  • Even with today's advanced aircraft. The P51 is still amazing

  • the oracle bipe in the beginning. R.I.P. Keep flying in heaven.

  • Taking a motorcycle course when I was 18 we had 4 of them in formation fly over us in the evening. Maybe 40 feet above us... every single student/instructor stopped their bike and watched them fly into the distance. Beautiful to watch them head over farmland into the distance, gleams of sunlight coming off of them.

Damn they could build planes back then.

  • Iget goosegumps off that sound

  • Sean Tucker says... I gotta beat that?!

  • Notice nearly all WW2 planes look alike?

  • gotta love the sound of a ww2 aircraft engine. anyone who says different is messed up or doesn't know better

  • justin bieber sounds better

  • Boner.

  • Thats what an orgasm sounds like!

  • Is that sound (along with most other Merlin powered aircraft), not the best sound in the world to date...?

  • he aint that low he is low enough when he starts cuttin grass

  • It's a pretty icon of WW2 war plane (:

  • i cam, i saw, i came again

  • I use windows 7 and I like the changing backgrounds feature, so i made it p51s, this plane is one of the pictures

  • Sounds awesome!

  • So thats what it sounded like, as you were hunkered down in a foxhole, praying the angels were coming to bust that tank off in the distance.

  • OWWWWWW

  • i love the sound of it

  • Best sound in the world

  • @USAFuturePilot

Rolls Royce Packard Merlin...there is no better sound.

  • @BJBTJF my farts sound pretty good

  • @BJBTJF the only sound thats better than that, is MULTIPLE merlins!!

  • @CTFD13 HAHA but wrong.

  • @BJBTJF Actually, it's just Rolls-Royce Merlin or just Packard Merlin, depending on the maker.

  • @BJBTJF

I agree. There is nothing better than the sound of a Merlin at full throttle.

  • @BIGBLOCK5022006 i doubt the germans share your view

  • @BJBTJF You did not hear ever the BMW 801 (Focke Wolf 190)!!

  • @BJBTJF Yeah this sound rulez...

  • just lov that noise .........

  • This plane's engine sound's just awesome.

  • this turbo engine sound..... WOW!!!!!! I would like to fly and have one instead of sex

  • Awesome plane! Beautiful!

  • 357th FG Most kills for a Mustang Group in World War Two

  • If it came down to a choice between sex with the hottest woman in the world, and flying this airplane. The airplane would win, hands down.

  • Is there another sound on earth that is so perfect?

  • beautiful..

  • Cadillac of the skies!

  • Damm I forgot the best plane of WW2, the Mosquito X

  • Packard or genuine RR, Spitfire, Hurricane, Lancaster or P51, it’s the sound of the most beautiful piston engine ever!

  • Just listen to that Merlin, seems you yanks had the money and we brits the music... good combo

  • @ianrodger21

There's only about (2) of the original British Rolls royce Merlin engine versions still in existence. that's a Packard Merlin you're listening to.

  • @SchwartzeBaron where did you get your info from saying there are only 2 RR merlins left in the world??

  • @pramboy09 Sure...I will try to find the video of the owner of one of them explaining that his is one of two remaining RR Mustangs. I was surprised to hear that myself. Just saw this comment today. I don't come here often. Hang on. I'll try to get that vid.

  • @SchwartzeBaron i guess one of the reasons this is so, i would have thought once packard started to licence produce the merlin there was no need for RR to produce for the mustang and most of their production would have gone to the spitfire, mosquito and lancaster seeing that most mustangs flying today are the d model most of them were produced from 44-45 when packard was in full swing.

  • @ianrodger21 230 years ago who would have thunk we would be Allies let alone have friendly diplomatic realations

  • @ianrodger21

    Shall we dance? :)

  • @ianrodger21 You got that right bro. It gives you goosebumps

  • @ianrodger21 DB is better. Metal sound roxx

  • @ianrodger21 Well put! That was a damned good combo. And you Brits even had the jet before we did, the Meteor.

  • @ianrodger21 british music is terrible.

  • @ianrodger21 The P-51 was an under performing aircraft with the Allison engine and the project was almost put aside until someone (British Test Pilot) thought to insert the Spitfire (Merlin) engine in it with the two stage blower for high altitude. With wing tanks, the aircraft was capable of six hours of flight. This increase in duration allowed the aircraft to escort bombers from the British Isles to Germany and opened the door to daylight bombing. A game changer at the time.

  • rock n rolls sounds BICTH!!!!!!!

  • One of those things where you just have to be there to get the full sound. Thanks for sharing, awesome video!

  • Think about this, no computer, fly by wire, air to air missles, just you against the enemy your skill VS his. Also we had 6 50cal browning in the wings. This is pure pilot VS pilot dog fighting, not the super video game planes we have now.

  • I was at an airshow about 6 or so years ago and they had various old warbirds making low passes like this. As usual they had music blaring from the stands and when the P-51 came by it was "Gimmie all your lovin" by ZZ Top. Gotta luv it!

  • the second time was the same as the first time but zommed

  • Oh My God Nice

  • hey! its Wee-Willy II if im not mistaken

  • Legends are in the air ... everywhere u look around ... ^^

  • Superb

  • Merlin Music!! .....I need some private time now.

  • 3 nazi decendants dislike this! x)

  • Awesome quality man, thanks for posting this.

  • Just beautiful... no more words...

  • Sounds like my new Chervolet Cruze...wonder the engine is the same?

  • It's great we live in a county that has "allowed" us to own former military war birds!

I wonder if in 60-70 years citizens will be flying around in F-16's, F-18's or better yet the SR-71.

Highly doubt it... every year new laws are passed preventing us from doing things in this "free" country.... and yet no laws are ever taken away.

  • awsm bird

  • That plane is just screaming... I want so kick some nazi-ass

  • Sean D Tucker and the oracle challenger 2

  • Truly my favorite engine sound of all time.

  • That's wicked =)

  • NICE PURE ROLLS ROYCE ENGINE SOUN ... AMAZING!!!

  • @raonicapello

That would be a Packard built Merlin in the case of the P-51.

  • The most beautiful and deadly plane to ever grace the skies.... I have fallen in love all over again.

  • Gives me goose bumps , EVERYTIME I hear a '51... Thanks!

  • Who in the Hell would dislike this video?

  • @redheadedduckhunter The morons who think these sweet old planes should have their engines pickled and then get locked up in a museum somewhere.

I say screw a permanent display, and get out and fly the thing!

  • i can`t imagine that sound in the 2WW...for U.S Army = Angel sound, for Nazis = evil trouble, good video :)

  • YIIIIIIJAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

  • This may sound stupid but are these p51's all that survived the war or did some of these planes never make it into battle???

  • Rather have a P-38. Less cockpit noise, and your guns don't have to converge in a box, they go all the way straight out from the nose. Ultimate... ground attack... killing machine. And if one of my engines gets shot up, I've got a second to take me home.

  • @cobrachoppergirl What's wrong with this noise? It's the best sound in the world. And with a P38, couple shots to the tail and the thing flies apart and you dive into the ground in your little pod.

  • man thats one steady fighter

  • makes me proud to own a mustang... i love flying so much and would kill for a P51 but untill then i get my P51 on 4 wheels! no wounder they named the mustang after these amazing planes...

  • How could there be 3 dislikes? What is there to dislike?

  • i wish i could press 10000 times on "LIKE"

  • The P51 was a classic piece of American design.Once mated with the British Rolls Royce Merlin engine,it became the greatest piston engined fighter of WW2.A marriage made in heaven!

  • One person had to be fascist...

  • Being in the presence of one while its flying 1/4 of a mile away you can feel it rumble past and the heat it gives off.

People talk about 'rolling thunder' and 'feeling the rumble' but unless you actually experience it its all hyperbole in your mind.

  • If I could move back in time that is what I would do in WW2

  • 1 person flew for the Luftwaffe! I know I know... That sounded awsome, to bad PC speakers cant do the real deal justice!

  • Yiiijaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

  • Pure Poetry!

  • I just had two nerdgasams

  • @MegaLonghornsfan Jezus, can I use that one?

  • @MegaLonghornsfan I don't think being a nerd is required ;)

  • damn, that's low

  • @M1GARRAND1 rudimentary grasp, sounds like you LOL

  • @M1GARRAND1

till the german bombers were dropping nukes on new york you fcuk witt

  • @M1GARRAND1 so u had 300 thousand soldiers armed with WW1 rifles and 60 tanks?cause that was Greece's military power back in 1940. why were u a superpower then and we werent?

  • @M1GARRAND1

how about when the usa tried its daylight bombing?

they got the shit shot out of them +had to give up ALL bombing.

so usa owned the skies? with british engined mustangs.

whilst germany +britian had jet planes flying in 1939.

but youre basicly saying the usa is just like russia.

couldnt listen to others advice/intelligence, made mistakes

+only won by having millions of troops.

  • @M1GARRAND1

well the usa did have a few extra years to train.

whilst the rest of the world was at war.

  • @M1GARRAND1

LOL best trained doesnt mean most able or best performing pilots.

i doubt any nation has a monopoly on pilot skill.

  • @infernalzen - Exactly, couldn't agree more. He's just like many others who blindly comment without thinking.

  • @kwakman99 guees its not his fault.

americans are probably taught that WW2 started, December 1941.

as opposed to the war is generally accepted to have begun on 1 September 1939, with the invasion of Poland by Germany.

an extra 2years of selling arms. neet trick.

  • sean d tucker 00:1

  • one can just imagine the germans haulin ass !

  • British engineering it is, that engine was made for this plane, that sound of that Rolls Royce engine just gives me chills, one of the best warbirds ever, amazing...

  • the cadillac of sky!

  • Looks amazing, sounds amazing, IS AMAZING!

  • Goosebumps all over!

  • Great vid - just a small note...This is a TF-51 with a tandem cockpit and not a P-51.

  • dang

  • Wee Willy II was the first Mustang i ever Flew in, and seeing this, it makes me say...AWESOME!!!

  • now THATS how a plane should sound OMFG!!

  • god that airplane sounds like no other. 6000 hrs and that thing still gives me a hard on

  • excellent love the p-51 great plane, my grandad was a ball turret gunner for a b-17 and when he saw these beauties he knew that everything was going to be alright, he told me a story that his formation was on the way back from a raid over bremen, his plane's number 3 engine was out hit by a shell on the return trip two of the escort fighters stayed with his bomber till they were in the clear, he said they were a blessing from god angles sent to make sure he got back home to his wife

  • @LordReaper117 I also met a ball gunner who was on the Ploiesti(sp?) raid. He said he was the only original member of his crew who never got wounded or killed. He said they had hell to pay until they got regular fighter escort..he even got to shoot at a jet, but it was too fast.

  • @LordReaper117 Indeed....i have heard stories like this one!

And P-51 was a BIG suport for bombers......they even managed to escort US bombers to bomb the Japans capital city(Tokio)

  • @LordReaper117

No, it's not a blessing. It's people doing their job.

    But great story anyway.

  • @LordReaper117

Totally awesome story. Next time I think my job is too hard or I get frustrated, I'll remember that I could have been in a brutal war, fighting for survival. It really puts things into perspective and makes us appreciate the generations before us.

  • @LordReaper117 - My father flew 30 missions as pilot of a B-17. He once saw Me-262s working over the group in front of his. He looked up through the window above his head and saw the reflection of the wing tanks falling off the Mustangs. They fell on those 262s like a ton of bricks. Over the Channel, my father asked the leader of 4 Mustangs to give them a loop. All 4 pulled a loop as if tied together and then peeled off, one by one, to head for home. The bomber boys idolized the P-51 pilots.

  • @bradlyw420 hahah okey.

  • @bradlyw420 lol i was comparing it to jets not to my car

  • just this sound is enough to love this aircraft....

  • why do people keep saying expensive how much money do these cost exactly? are they rare? and where do u even buy one?

  • @squarecnix

They can be found fairly easily. You can start by looking for an aircraft broker. Typically, they are between 1 and 2 million bucks.

  • It still looks modern

  • slow

  • damn, any lower and that would be one expensive ass weed eater!!!!!

  • King of the Skies!

  • One of these days Ed Shipley is going to get it wrong and pay the price for being a show off. He is replacable but the plane isnt.

  • OMG! Finally someone who can keep an object in the viewfinder and at a reasonable distance to give the real enthusiast what he wants. Good onya!

  • Boy, Sweet sound

  • man , all of u guys are blowing it out of perspective! at the time the Firt mustangs came out the merlin engine was availbale in mass production and it was a small way for the brittish to pay off their debts to the US. Bottom line: all politics, f' um!!!

  • her sound blew the speaker out of my headphones!!!!! HELL YA

  • I DONT BUT I WOULD PUT A HELL CAT UP AGAINST IT ANYTIME AND IT WAS ALL AMERICAN MADE

  • Somebody please pass the tissues! Beautiful noise.

  • Keep 'em flyin' !

  • Mustang= improved Spitfire. Look at the early versions and its easy to see that.

  • The best Piston Engine ever made!!! Sounds amazing!

  • The best Piston Engine ever made!!! Sounds amazing!

  • That is a beautiful airplane...

  • shoot mannn Instead of a mustang like alot of guys over here get,

    id get a MK9 Spit

    and have something more unique,

    Or even a Hurricane,

then top It off with a Bristol Beaufighter and a Lysander,to boot,

  • I didnt even know that Cruise knew how to fly,

    let alone a Mustang,

  • Awesome!!!

  • Northrup Grumman (if i spelled it right) came up with the design. They put the British engine in there to make it as fast as it is/was at the end of the war (450 some odd, mph). And what the heck does Tom Cruise have to do with this video?

  • uh, Northrop and Grumman were two different companies in WWII. Grumman built Navy fighters and Northrup built the P-61 Black Widow. North American Aviation built the Mustang.

  • as sseeplane so correctly mentioned, North American Aviation designed and built the P-51 Mustang. Technically, all B,C,D,and K models sported the Packard (built in the USA) Merlin engine, as they were lic
