  • An organ designed such free and creative like its possibilities to be played... Great work!

Organs are so timeless and always magnificent - religious problems shouldn't matter! Why can't everybody just enjoy it?!

  • It is my understanding that the Cathedral and campus have been sold to the Orange County Archdiocese and during the next three years the present congregation and staff will be finding other means of work. We can only hope and pray that the magnificent Hazel Wright organ will stay in tact and continue its ministry. Type in Sheila Schuller Coleman, she has a video explaining the sale.

  • waiting to hear languetuit on it

  • comments:

-wow i wish i could use that organ O.O

-massive string of arguments between Christians, Catholics, etc. >:o

    -what an amazing sound :)

be nice ppl, God bless yall

  • @bungiecoocoo I hate to tell ya there bud, but catholics are christians too :)

  • @SaxInThaCity just being specific

  • If I had a few hours to go crazy with that organ, it would be hard to turn on all stops and couplers to the great and the pedal, and just have a massive resounding chord. This must sound similar to the Atlantic City Convention Hall with over 400 ranks.

  • Timothy, I too feel sorry for the congregation. It was a great place in it's hay-day, the music and the organ is what drew me to the Hour of Power, I just hope the Catholic church makes good use of the facility and the fabulous organ.

  • No that's the way they build the church, the Crystal Cathedral.

  • What an amazing sound - but an incredibly ugly building - did it used to be a shopping mall?

  • Those windows have not done good for this organ at all. It requires expensive and constant maintenance. That's one lucky organ technician though! I would like to see this organ, and the church, in person someday. I am glad that it will be saved from destruction and used, hopefully to its fullest extent (in service and in concert).

  • I wonder where the tabernacle will go? You know, I think we can save some of that marble up front--it would make a spectacular Bishop's Throne.

  • yamahao5, where are you the organist, and what sort of "tasteful" music do you play?

  • Was the comment by maso608 "At least the organ will be saved." meant to imply that the Catholic church is not saved - generally speaking? A funny but sad "tongue in cheek" comment considering that if you worship Mary or the Pope, you missed the boat regarding salvation. Obedience to the Word of God will result in entrance through the narrow gate and

the narrow or circumspect path of salvation.

  • @HLABSINC - I don't know who taught you about the Catholic Church, but if you are found to be worshipping Mary or the Pope then you will be instantly denounced as a heretic and excommunicated from the Catholic Church.

The organ is saved because there was a plan to sell the Crystal Cathedral to a university who would turn it into a school campus, possibly removing the organ. Removed organs either find a new home quickly or are broken up for parts to build new organs.

  • @hartleymartin Thank you for your comment. I did not intend to ruffle feathers. Since you must be knowledgeable regarding catholic religion I have a question. Who do you confess your sins to? Is it a mere man referred to as a priest? Or, do you confess your sins the the true high priest which is Jesus Christ the second person of the Trinity? I am not an expert on any religion but am a student of the Word of God and

if any human teaching contradicts the Bible, then I reject that human teaching.

  • @HLABSINC

Confession of Sins: John 20:23 - How do the Apostles know what sins to forgive and retain if they are not confessed to them?

Authority of Apostolic Succession: Matthew 18:18 - Jesus Christ hands infallible authority to the Apostles.

During the books of Acts we see St Paul establishing the church in various locations, and appointing the leaders, giving them the authority to act on behalf of the apostles.

  • (Continued)

The only line of clergy who can trace their succession back to the apostles lays within the Catholic and the Orthodox Churches. The Orthodox Church has been in schism since 1054, but their succession remains valid, although they are separated by schism as outlined in Matthew 18:15-17.

I've studied enough history to know why we've got thousands of separated "churches" today. And yet, Jesus desired that we all be one as stated in John 17:21

  • @hartleymartin That is correct - it is God's desire for the body (group) of His slaves be of one mind. It is interesting to note that Christ was not referring to any localized gathering place but specifically to the apostles as He sent them out. However, as you know, all the saints (fellow slaves of Christ or all true believers) are considered part of the vine or the "body."

  • @hartleymartin Nowhere in the Bible (any translation or version) are human beings such as apostles (or any other human except for Christ) given the authority infallible or otherwise to forgive sins. Only Christ is the God/man that did this numerous times during His ministry. For around $20 you can purchase the Strongs Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible which shows every word in scripture, the reference, & meaning. Too many are ignorant of the Word due to lack of study.

  • @hartleymartin To complete this thread, your reference in John 20:23 the forgiveness is referring to how one human forgives another human and has nothing to do with forgiveness as a high priest. Example: I forgive those that cuss me out and/or call me a bigot. However, when I forgive, I am not acting as a priest being a mediator between that person and God. I am simply humanly forgiving as a person. Matthew 18:18 has

    nothing to do with this.

  • @HLABSINC So you can retain someone's sins too?

  • @BeingBob ???????????? I guess this is over my head. Anyway, the Bible teaches that we can only be punished for our sins which may included causing others to stumble.

  • @HLABSINC In John 20:23 Jesus tells the disciples that if they retain sins they are retained. It seems odd that this would just refer to extending forgiveness to people who have wronged you. That was already possible. I guess I'm not understanding the place it would have there if that's all he was saying. Since this happened after the resurrection of Jesus it seems that this would apply to their ministry. They carry on after witnessing the ascension. A bit like Elijah and Elisha

  • @HLABSINC Anyway, according to Catholic teaching as I'm aware of it, it's Jesus who forgives sins through the priest.

  • @BeingBob I guess that is the difference. Those that study Scripture can see a number of differences between Catholic teaching and Scripture (including the "Catholic Bible" which I believe is close to the authorized King James version) where Christ (God the Son) is the mediator between man and God the Father. Numerous Scripture in the new testament compares Christ to the highest order of the old testament priesthood. Purgatory also deviates from Biblical teaching.

  • @HLABSINC Humility can prevent us from making presumptuous responses. I'll try to avoid that. Are you saying that there isn't a valid comparison between the disciples seeing Jesus ascending to heaven on a cloud (Acts 1:9) to the right hand of God (Mk 16:19, Dn 7:13-14), and Elisha watching Elijah be carried into heaven? (2 Kgs 2:9-15) Weren't people healed in the Name of Jesus by the disciples? Isn't sin a type of sickness and forgiveness a type of healing, of reconciliation?

  • @BeingBob I don't want to beat this subject to death. Physical sickness can be a result of sin. However, what I say does not matter (who am I?) but the Bible details what sin is and what physical sickness is. Since God is beyond our imaginations in beauty, holiness, perfection, power, love, wrath, etc and our sin is far beyond physical sicknesses. God abhors sin and only the wrath of God upon the Son at the time of the crucifixion (the display we could understand) is the only adequate-

  • @HLABSINC means of satisfying the Father's just wrath that hangs over each individual. Only God the Son was sufficient - so how can a mere man forgive sins? Of course each human has the responsibility of repenting, and obeying the Word of God in order to have this (the only) means of salvation for the cross to be in effect for that person. As I stated before, understanding of this monumental event only comes by study of the Bible. Our private opinions are unimportant.

  • @HLABSINC You don't have to reply if you don't want to. For your sake, so that you know that it's be understood, if you wish to continue I will acknowledge that you have repeatedly said that study of the Bible is important.

I really wasn't talking about physical sickness and sin, but of sin being a sickness by itself. When Jesus healed the paralytic he also said "Your sins are forgiven"

Repeating: It's Jesus who forgives sins through the priest, but the priest can also retain sins.

  • @HLABSINC What??? Don't tell me we have one of those narrow minded, Evangelical Christian anti-Catholic bigots talking here! Somebody needs to get his/her facts straight! Obedience to the Word of God will result in a tangible decrease in your bigotry!

  • @DHS11999 Hmmm, who's calling who a bigot. I don't know how my bland comment evoked this response. I am neither a so-called Christian or anti Catholic. I am simply a slave of Christ. By the way many of my dear friends are Catholic.

  • is amazing the sound of that organ

  • The Hour of Power as we knew it is no more. I think Robert Anthony had a good chance of continuing the program after his father, but instead they put Sheila in charge and this is what has happened, they have no audience because of the change to praise band crap, the glory of the Crystal Cathedral is finished, they have no money to keep it going. The Catholic Church wanted a large cathedral in that area and this is the perfect opportunity to have one.

  • I agree with doubledipperBrian...I used to watch every morning because the music at the beginning of the show was sooooo wonderful with that awesome organ, but stopped watching pretty much once the daughter took over and they made all the changes to the opening of the program. It was sooo true, it was more about the "look at me" and that is so sad. I am glad I got to visit the church several years ago, and see a good service and hear that awesome organ!

  • Good grief, what a tasteless show off. I would have enjoyed something more subtle, but you can't argue taste or lack of it. I don't think anyone is listening, and I don't blame them.

  • Soon, there will be playing catholic organists form all over the world! Marvellous.

  • Well, it's final, the Catholic church has purchased the Crystal Cathedral. At least the organ will be saved.

  • @maso608 Hopefully they make good use of it, as the Catholic Mass is supposed to.

  • @maso608 Did I just read that right? The CATHOLIC CHURCH has purchased the CRYSTAL CATHEDREL? WHY? And more important, what does this mean for the future of the "HOUR OF POWER" ministry, and the Schuler family? PLEASE RESPOND.

  • @maso608 the pope is rich he can buy anything... I feel so sorry for the congregation, they better find a statue of mary quick...

  • @maso608 and it will finally become a REAL cathedral! I will be very happy when the whole Schuller family and congregation is OUT so that "Hazel" can be played as SHE SHOULD be played. No more of the "Happy Clappy, Jingles for Jesus, pop music" YUK!

  • @ATLKapellmeister Amen to that!! Time to bring a real church in to the Crystal Cathedral!

  • @maso608 Is this now a Catholic Cathedral ?

  • there probably won't be anything to watch anyway.

  • Yes It appears that Praze bands are in for the Crystal Cathedral!! I will no longer watch or support! What a complete and utter shame!

  • Beautiful!!! Exactly!!! I used to enjoy watching the opening music of Robert Schueller's Hour of Power program. I loved hearing that magnificent organ. Now, they went all happy-clappy thanks to that idiot daughter of his. I tried watching it this morning for the first time in a long time and I had to shut it off. The organ wasn't used one single time. Instead it was all about the look-at-me worship team arrogantly proclaiming Hollywood-Ya! instead of Hallelujah. Never watching it again.

  • This instrument is sooo cool! I love how you can see the swell box's opening and closing!

  • Wonderful!

  • lets get this organ on ebay now , put the shullers on thirty thousand dollar income and pay back those creditors ,,some have lost their homes from the shuller family feud fueled by greed and power!

  • @TheMadMusicMan Don't worry, if things turn out the way they likely will, that organ will be played in its fullest grandeur, only in future services it will be used about two or three times more frequently. Many more acclamations to play for

  • at :24 seconds, I thought the woman who was talking was one of the reeds playing! lol

  • @BH061595 yes i agree at first hearing ! ;-)

  • great quality and a good song
