  • Freddie Mercury would've loved that opening great pipes and drums, great dancers love it ღஜLove&Peaceஜღ

  • I was one the drummers in this band back in 2008! Good time at the Edinburgh Tattoo! Just so everyone knows this is the Queen Victoria School in Dunblane and we were playing We Will Rock You Just because we could!

  • Why are they playing We Will Rock You?

  • absolutely brilliant. proud to call myself a scotsman. wish i could move back. U.S.A keeps thinking im irish.

  • Too bad our Wars have to be w/ guns and tanks. Why can't it be w/ men in kilts dancing around here?

  • @RoyaleZero101 wouldnt it be great if there were no wars at all

  • outstanding

  • In the begening, what is the name of the tune?

  • @lavendderrable

    we will rock you

  • ichy fingers is played alot in this video

  • Those men in red coats and kilts are magnificent.. I hope never to meat them in combat..

  • what are the name of all these songs? I especially like the 4th song.

btw, is this the dance style that is what lead to jumpstyle and shuffleing?

  • @Diavolino1988 Nope, we developed the dance form to get away from midgies and avoid thistles :D JOKE before anyone has a go and I am a former Highland dancer!

  • A kilt is pleated in the back. I have an 8-yard kilt which means they used 8 yards of wool to make it. When the pleats on a good kilt are draped straight down, you can see the tartan on the back without breaks. A woman's skirt is not pleated but is made to drape. Some women might wear a kilt when dancing or in pipe band. Good kilts are very expensive, but they can be worn very casual or very formal.

  • If a Scot wore anything under his kilt - it would be a skirt - and men don'w wear skirts!!

  • Scots are real men!

  • @ShadowDreams891 And real women too! My wife's a Scot and I'm the luckiest man on earth! :-)

  • Hearing Americans call Tartan.. 'plaid' is like listening to nails down a blackboard.

  • @BonnieBlueFlag1314

PLAID plaid plaid plaid plaid :D

    yeah, im real mature XD

  • @BonnieBlueFlag1314 I'm one of those and my sincerest apologies. Thank you for the correction. I will ensure that I and my students call it a Kilt!

  • scotish war dance looks like georgian war dance very much.. respect from georgia!!

  • @Vinson37Me My grandma explained to me that white on kilts is generally for ceremonial purposes only. Lack of white on a kilt means its for business or war.

  • Excellent!

  • LONG LIVE SCOTLAND!!!

  • Amazing music, i was so overjoyed to find my background is Scots and not Irish, can't wait to go someday.

  • alba gubra

  • Superbe Great!!!!!!!!! Forever Scotland

  • Thanks for that. The same regulations don't seem to apply to demonstrations/displays as evidenced here. Even some of those not wearing sporrans (the girls) might not be complying ;-) Oh to be that age and gallus (a good Scots word) again!! Keep up the traditions of piping and dancing.

  • there's a similar sword dance featuring in the movie, "Waterloo" as well. For clearer and complete version.

  • Scotland is full of tradition, spirit and soul! RESPECT from Sardinia

  • I like this. :)

    Waves from Denmark

  • I was with the 48 th Highlanders of Canada and first time i put my kilt on, my dad told me i better not have any underwear on or he was going to kill me , he was ex Sgt of the 48 th as well

  • i went there 5 years ago i recommend anyone to go much better than i imagined

  • i know half of the tunes played here, but i was wondering if anyone knew the name of the one played after rocking the baby. cheers

  • @dudelsacker87 i think it is clumsy lover

  • Go, QV dancers!!

So much practice and hard work went into practice, I remember

  • It is Brutusbasoon

  • brilliant i would recommend going to the tattoo to anyone

  • lol the tune they march out too bears a striking a resemblance to Queen's "We will Rock You"

very entertaining! thank you for posting

  • It is an arrangement, for the pipes. So, you are right.

  • I was in this act! I'm one of the dancers in the set nearest the camera...loved doing the tattoo, it was really fun :)

And because it keeps being brought up, yes there are boys there and yes we all do wear something under the kilts, as they fly up a bit when we dance :D

Also, just a random fact...no one here is older than 17/18 :)

  • It used to be that nothing was worn under the kilt even when dancing. It was just accepted that when the pleats swung up or billowed out that perhaps the "truth" might be revealed.

QVS must be about the only school left in Scotland where Highland Dancing is part of the cirriculum.

Keep up the good work and the traditions, although some of them seem to have slipped recently!!!

  • I am not Scottish and I thought that was fantastic. Makes me want to go to Scotland.

  • <3 I love you, scotland!

    bye bye! from ITALY!

  • I miss seeing this as a lad.

  • Good piping, drumming and dancing. Some of the dancers appear to wear nothing under their kilts. Is this compulsory, by choice or peer pressure?

  • Tradition carries we don't wear anything under our kilts. Kilts before used to be nothing but mear lays of wool with a special pattern woven in....not this high class stitching that you see in todays kilts. Yet anyways we don't wear anything under our kilts....unless stupid laws hold us from tradition.

  • I don't think there are any laws about what you wear under a kilt!

  • In sweden we don't wear anything lol !

  • As far as I know, nothing at all is worn under a well pleated kilt. Scots would drop their kilts and fight in shirts or naked when the time came to fight (vis a vis Culloden)

  • Nothing is "worn" under the kilt, it's all in perfect working order!!!

(Sorry, that is an old Scottish joke)

  • Good one though.

  • @ameritas2 even the girls? :D id love that

  • @amangonecrazy Agreed. When it was a boys only school OK but now that it is a mixed school have the girls got to follow the same rules? Perhaps some of the dancers would respond and tell us if it only the boys who wear nothing under their kilts?

  • @bikewalk1 For competitions, black underwear is worn underneath the kilt for the highland dances and white under the aboyne (It's the dress, don't know if I'm spelling that correctly) for the national (traditional girl) dances. You will actually get disqualified if you have other colours on. For piping and drumming, I've never met a girl who doesn't wear underwear or shorts, ha. Most men in military bands don't, for regular parade or competition bands it isn't as common, in Canada anyway.

  • @ameritas2 lol...

  • @ameritas2 i don't get it...

  • @ameritas2 Very True

  • @ameritas2 Aye, a good one.

  • @ameritas2 - I thought that the Scots "wear" Scotland's Future under their Kilts??

  • I know ther were ladies in ther, i meant that the video had the best males that i have seen.

  • The boys have pockets on their tunics

  • best video of male highland dancing

  • Wow! They are amazing!

  • thankz 4 puttin the video up

  • Thanks for sharing this. My husband & I went to Edinburgh, Scotland in 1991 for our honeymoon--it was during the time of the Edinburgh Festival & we also saw the Tattoo--excellent . . .

  • Was it me? Or was it hard to differentiate between the guys and girls (dancers).

  • the story behind the sword dance is that the dance to be performed the day before battle and if you toutched the sword while dancing it meant that you were going to die in battle. but if you did it successfully you will live

  • some were guys and some were lassies

  • oh and can anyone tell me the tunes they played??

  • we will rock you

    clumsly lover

    itchy fingers

    and don't know the others

  • The strathspey (before Itchy Fingers) is Rose Among the Heather. I'm not sure what the jig is. P.S. the dancers are guys.

  • after itchy fingers is rocking the baby

  • I was playing there! The tunes were

    We Will Rock You

    Clumsly Lover

    Rose Among the Heather

    Rocking the Baby

    The Panda

  • these are awesome seats! i was there but i sat in the right side stand, would have loved to sit where you were, such an awesome view of everything.

  • yh play

  • Someday I hope to play in tattoo. I know a chap who has done it, but he was a drummer. Does anyone know what a piper has to do?

  • The dancers were girls right?

  • Very nice!
