im curious what the advantage is to playing with the crossfader reversed the way he doest? why does Q and other guys he scratches with play like this? it seems more awkward and harder to scratch like this for me. is it better than playing regular?

The theory with hamster is the fader bounces from the cut wall easier from the fingers than the thumb for faster patterns. I think it really does, I just can't make my brain work that well and it feels like throwing a ball left-handed to me so I'm stuck regular.

Its not really good to compare him to Qbert, after all... Qbert is a pure scratcher/producer and DJ Shadow as a live performer has a -lot- more going for him. I dont know many people that could listen to even an hour of pure scratching, it seems all of those (us) are usually dj's themselves and passing people might be impressed by the dj skills but soon bored or have the misconception its noise. ;)

Well the knobs could have fallen off. Some mixers don't hold up to abuse at all. That's exactly what happened to my Behringer. The crossfade knob literally flew off, and I couldn't find it. Since it already was fscked up, I just decided to buy a new Rane. Solved all my problems, because Rane has never failed me.
