Please also check out Zaytouna olive oil, that the Palestinian Farmers struggle to produce despite the Aparthide regiem of israel destroying nearly 90% of the ancient olive groves.
the problem is.. capitalism!! wich has been part of people's mentality for the last two centurys! .. once people and goverments realized, or admmit that the problem is in this economic ans social system, things are going to start to change.. otherwise poberty and hunger won't stop.
(I hope this is well written cause I don't speak english very well)
Fair trade is just another form of subsidy which encourages overproduction and price distortion, in other words, fair trade isn't even fair to begin with since it only helps one party, in the free market system you don't pick winners and you definitely do not force it either...Entonces que propones, un sistema socialista? Eso va a dejar la gente mas pobre de lo que son. La verdad es que en un sistema de capitalismo la gente ha prosperado mas que en qualquier otro sistema.
people care but wonder how they could help.. NGO websites tell you 'make a donation' but if you want to REALLY help.. like with your OWN hands not via bank transfer from your western world's home.. hmmm
nice to be back & have you again as my friend.. OXFAM mission is so inspiring
I was nealry due to join OXFAM New Zealand's Amazing Race 2009 in a few weeks time.. now it's time to find my way into the nGO world dream.. our Duth OXFAM Novib is not on YouTube (yet) but it sure is worth giving it a try via the regular job-searching way :)
getting involved with non-profits/ NGOs is my dream.. dreams can come true if you go for.. which is sth I'll try.. H xox
1 way is to buy local from farmers/producers in your area. Buying local undercuts the large multinational corporations that have a monopoly of the entire food productions system. ADM, Cagill, Bunge, Monsanto control it all: from providing genetically modified seeds to hazardous chemical fertilizers/ pesticides & from farming to selling to the consumer. Everyone can call the CEOs and elected officials to change the exploitative polices.

Fair trade is getting the goods for as little as you can from someone who is trying to get as much as they can. What you call fair trade is a tax on people who subscribe to efficient socio-economic systems to subsidise backwards tribal patriarchies. How is paying more than I need to for coffee fair to me exactly?
No, the fair trade policies do not subsidise tibal patriarchies. On the contrary they enable producers to have the extra income they need to for example educate their girls. Subsistence living means there is no money spare to adopt "inefficient socio-economic systems" like those that educate girls and provide maternity leave and all those economically inefficient things we do in western countries. I pay more for fair trade coffee because I want to support modernity and progress in the world.
I wish to debate that in an intelligent manor however it clearly will not pass through your extraordinary ability to be quite that selfish and self-centred. I'm lost for words and quite honestly feel ill.
The extra money this programme asks you to pay on each product of coffee you consume is wholy reasonable. For some certain reason the price of these products are forced to be lower than they should be. This is sometimes compensated for by aids and donations including armor from generally developed countries. I think there is possibility that you feel unfair for this fact, because to some extend, we are all selling our labor force at lower than nominal prices, but we never ask for "fairtrade"!!
"How is paying more than I need to for coffee fair to me exactly?"
Because when you buy fair trade, the money is going to the farmer who grew the coffee, not to the top of corporation ladders, that are making their highest profit ever, while the farmers are making what the made a decade ago.
if u don't want to buy fair trade then goto the maketradefair website and join the big noise to get the trade laws chnged. Check my film 'The Good Shopper' for more details. Click on my username badboypass.

Chris Martin...hmm! Is it the narrow shoulders, the limp wrist, the giant narrow forehead, the malformed lisping mouth, the jokeshop nose, or the posh-boy facke "mockney" accent that makes you tingle with excitement?
He isn't the message they are trying to potray in this video, go mock a music video and have some decency at least. This isabout a serious matter - not the way some guy looks.
unfair trade is a very complicate problem, if the MEDCS decide to stop food aiding the poorer countries, htere will be more people suffer from hunger, but then again, large amount of food aid to the poor countries will destory their local food market and thus slows down the their growth.
I bought a ten pound bag of sugar from Costco that had the fair trade stamp on it. It is called WHOLESOME SWEETNER. It is organic, and the bag is green. When my mom cooked with it, I thought the dessert was awesome!
Watch my short film 'The Good Shopper' just click on my name badboypass and watch the vid from there. It's about ethical shopping and campaigning. Make Trade Fair, Fairtrade, Amnesty etc
I love seeing someone like Chris Martin who is not caught up in his money, but rather concerned for the world. How many rich people do you see with this kind of heart?
Hi Oxfam Friends, I was introduced to The MTF Campain last semester, I study Ads and Publicity in Brazil, we whore asked to make TV Comercials about MTF, the are all in portuguese but you can take a look, I can put Subtitles if needed. this are the links:
Does this have something to do with what Chris writes on his hands? If so, he's come up with a new way to get the message out. I hate those damned ribbons that are absolutely everywhere and hence have become meaningless.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Coldplay but I suppose the irony of this is that he actually did a spoof of himself putting together a clip like this on "Extras".
Yeah, it is kinda funny! But I think it would be worse if he was one of those celebs that always talked about it but never did anything about it. Chris genuinely helps and cares very much, so I think a little satire doesn't hurt.
seriously makes me want to go to africa and give help!!!

I just made a video involving China and an end to slave labor. You could take a look, if you'd like.
Glad to see that humans care about other humans! May God bless!
Coldplay has good music, even without knowing about humanitarian involvement! Good job!
