  • the switch 1/2 is a very hard skill to do on beam. One for the amplitude it requires to complete full split and a half turn. And second because the half must be perfectly in line or your scrued. And i dont think their going for an exciting routine. I think their trying to show nastias detail and beauty. Their trying to do what evryone else is doing. But do it much better. And thats why she gets high scores.

  • it shud be a D but the judges r crediting it as a C for some reason...trust me i counted it up. 6.6 A score is one tenth too low...

  • she doesn't hold the scale long enough

  • jk jk jk i get it now.

when she doesn't hold it long enough, they credit it as another front aerial but since ya cant count things twice they credit the back layout (C) instead. thanks

  • actually, they credit it as a front tuck aerial, which is a C

  • ahhhhh. thanks

i kno the piked front to scale isn't in the code yet but i know that the regular piked aerial is. what is that one worth??

  • that's not in the code either

the front aerial pike to 2 feet is a D, though

  • you just said the front aerial pike to 2 feet isn't in the code so how is it worth a D?

i think it is in the code because i have seen izbasa do it

  • I said the pike front aerial isn't in the code (meaning landing on one foot)

  • whaaaaat how is it not worth a e, isn't a regular front arial a d?

  • I don't think she reached a full split in her tour jete...

  • oh and bcontract, it may not seem like it to the non-gymnast eye, and especially from this angle, but ive seen pictures where she well shows a 180

  • Hey, well I am do have a "gymnast eye" haha. Yes, I know Nastia typically does a very good split leap, I was just noting that she looked a little short in this routine. Watch her American Cup beam routine from this year, and you'll see that the she does it better.

  • it's the camera angle, or the camera didn't catch the split (it's a little bit choppy in some places)

on the NBC version, I freeze framed it and it's a full 180 split

  • actually i dont think thats a tourjete but a switch leap-half.

correct me if im wrong but my understanding is that a in a tourjete the front leg is supposed to be lower but it didnt look like it in this vid but im not sure

  • Her move...

    All plan and no action.

... It's going to be like that 4.0 twists on floor that she claims she can compete and make her own, but never to be shown in reality...

  • she did the quad in stick it!

and also she NEVER was supposed to do the quad in competition (except us classic which doesnt count as a competition)

  • she did the quad in stick it!

and also she NEVER was supposed to do the quad in competition (except us classic which doesnt count as a competition)

  • HOLYY CRAPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!

    lovessss ittt

    (:

  • the skill she listed in her website is not the same skill she performs here. the skill woth a D listed in the website is in a piked position, the one she does here is tucked

  • omgosh i figured it out, since she does it wit bent legs, the front flip-scale is only worth a C instead of a D

  • Wow!

  • she does have a legit series. front ariel bhs layout step out. three elements in it.. just like practically the whole world. Her combinations are amazing and the nistor is NOT OVERRATED. when is the last time you did a front ariel front? even if you can do it, when was the last time you did it to one foot and landed it. probably never. her switch half is over 180. how much better can it get. please enlighten me.

  • I still like what Bo Yang used to do: she used to do aerial walkover then do a back scale; even though they werent joined it still looked beautiful because her back scale was completely split and not an arabesque. Wonder why nobody has taken this front free walkover into immediate arabesque into a full back scale? Surely it cant be that much more difficult to straighten the leg up to a full back scale??

  • u can shut shut the fuck up!!! u have no clue what u are saying!!! i bet u cant even do half of the sutff that she is doing so u cant say anything!!! god i hate u...........i hate people like u especially cause they leave nasty comments when they dont know what they are talking about!!! and guess what?....I KNOW THE CODE OF POINTS TOO JERK!! and she is doing hard stuff

  • u cant call a skill overrated cause obviously fig officials know more than u on wats difficult. also if these skills like a nistor and switch half were so easy and overrated, evryone wud b doing them...

if other ppl cud do the skills she does and 'code whore' so well trust me, they wud

  • uh shawns is actually 6.9 even though sometimes it goes down to 6.8 so nastia's is at least two to three tenths lower

  • shawn has never gotten a 6.9 in comp, where is that coming from. nast is exactly 2 tenths lower

  • Shawns is a 6.8 because she never, ever, ever in her life gets credited for that full turn w/ leg at horizontal. Nastia's is supposed to be 6.7 but she's also losing credit somewhere. Probably because she doesn't hold the scale long enough.

  • wait if shawn was credited for the leg up turn it wud be a C, so 3 tenths; if she wasnt, it wud be devalued to an A, one tenth; so how come shes losing one tenth instead of 2. and most of the time shawn does that skill well, i dont see y she shudnt b credited for it

  • I'm not sure of the exact math. (I think it might be getting credited as a B turn of some sort.) But Shawn doesn't do that skill well. She cheats it. She always holds her leg outwards when she starts, it she rarely keeps it at horizontal, and she usually drops it before she finishes the turn.

  • her leaps are quite often downgraded as well.

  • I hope she upgrades- If she wants to win the beam gold at Beijing, she has to get past Li Shanshan... How difficult is a double turn w/ horizontal leg on the beam? She does it on the floor, and the beam is much "harder" compared to the springy floor... so I'm guessing it would be easier ?!?!

  • wo wo wo definately not, on the beam that would be incredibly hard, double turn in regular position is already a d level turn.

  • Get a code education djm71675. As turbojon811 pointed out, this routine is composed of 1E, 7D, 2C. Nastia doesn't have a G or F like Shawn, but unlike Shawn she also isn't counting many C level elements. If this routine was so easy, why wouldn't everyone be doing their routines like this and taking the big scores? Have you seen Joura (fave of mine) attempt the switch half? In comparison Nastia's looks like a different skill!

  • Is her mount a "C" level skill?

  • yep

  • seven D skills and one E is "near compulsory"? Please clarify.

  • The switch ring could stand some improvement, but you cannot judge her leaps from this video... it's good quality but it wasn't taken with a professional-grade camera. I was at this event and nobody who saw her live this past weekend would question whether she reaches 180 degrees on her leaps. It's so obvious (as pictures will also prove).

  • djm, that made no sense. u need to stop commenting negatively bout her

  • This is one of the most beautifully executed balance beam routines that I've seen in the past 10 years.

  • so did she get at skill named after her this time?

  • can't believe this routine got 9.8 as B score. then again this competition is in US and americans are expected to be overscored.

If the judges score her like this at olympics chinese (+ russians) will bring the roof down with protest.I am preparing for Athens part 2

  • can i ask what was wrong with this routine? you seem to think that it was bad. there were virtually no bobbles and no mistakes. just tiny tiny miniscule errors that are nearly impossible to fix

  • I dont want to argue with you, but when this tiny miniscule errors happen with other gymnasts they are penalised heavly even going to a score of 8.9. Plus most of them have difficulty in their routine.

  • prove it

  • life68, wut miniscule errors??

  • I hate to disappoint the naysayers who rely on the "this is another American overscore event" argument but Pacific Rim had full international panels. Nelli Kim was in attendance and judging even. Nastia received a higher score from them here than the so called biased panel at American Cup. How do you explain that now?????? :)

  • her switch 1/2 also is not well executed at all, she doesnt reach the 180º extention.

  • Photos of the skill dispute that. There are pictures of her in flight on that skill at 180 degrees.

  • it may not look like it does to a regular person but if u pause it at the exact nanosec she does reach it and like seethesun sed, there r so many pics of it

  • the us team needs to get a different leo. how many times do they keep wearing that

  • The only problems I saw were the full turn with leg at pseudo horizontal, and the switch ring without head release. Other than that, it was very pleasing.

  • I love Nastia, but IMO the side-somi has never emphasized her elegance. Certainly scores well though...

  • thank you so much!

  • I wouldnt have given her the ring switch leap, but the rest of the routine was exceptional. I love her front somersault through to arabesque its the best one I have seen

  • I wouldnt have given her the ring switch leap, but the rest of the routine was exceptional. I love her front somersault through to arabesque its the best one I have seen

  • the execution is very good but 9.8 of execution?? are you joking??? competition ins usa are a joke, sad but true

and the skill is the nistor, and they pretend that is nastio the first ¬¬ ridiculus

  • Gorgeous! But I wish she'd take out the ugly Nistor.. :(

  • it is interesting that at the american cup they were talking about the new move to be called the "liukin" - i remember at the time thinking nistor perform the flip to one foot/scale at the worlds..anyway it seems that did call it the nistor after all - at least on liukin's website - a bit of boring trivia - anyway its a nice move :)

  • Where on Nastia's website did it say that? I'd like to read it. =]

  • it was on the "gym info" routines for BB but i just checked again at it has changed to take off from one leg to one foot landing to scale with a * so maybe it has not been named at all yet....interesting....

  • Hmmm, interesting. Isn't it almost EXACTLY like Nistor's move, though? I hope she gets something named after her, she deserves!

  • I meant to say 'She deserves it'. haha

  • that was what i thought!! there is another girl from germany (??? maybe) thats doing it too! i don't know if she will pike it or not, but its the same skill!

  • Really?? What's her name? I want to check it out!

  • okay I lied she's Russian not German, but search Svetlana Klyukina beam 2007 and it will show her Beijing Test event beam. it has the same skill in it! im so confused!

  • her switch ring leap is not well executed, it lost arch position, her head is not back at all, looks like a simple switch with back foot up.

  • Thank for posting...great seats!
