  • i love weckl i listen to him and im 11 years old

  • OMFG... I can't believe how outstanding it is...

  • the first bit sounds like terry bozzios work.

  • definitively autotranscendental ;)

  • hollay fuck that guy is good, who does he play for?

  • one of the best I've seen

  • He's the one...

  • can i just faint?hahaha.mind blowing.that's what weckl is.

  • Simply put, Daves and ideal drummer. He understands the voicing of all his heads and cymbals and the value of a rest as well as a 32nd run. If there was ever a way to unlock what it is to drum...Daves got it...NASTY

  • The alternating singles between his right hand and right foot are UNREAL! so tight and fast man.

  • Supernatural.

  • AMEN.

  • In this vid, Dave pawns all... best soloist? HELL YEAH!

  • dave weckl is the sh*t! i love watching his solos on video. i saw his clinic in dallas in dec 2003. its even more badass when you see him live.

  • You what else is funny. . . is that this probably isn't very hard for him. He has been playing like this for decades! It looks to me as if he is not even breaking a sweat. Him and "the Alien" are my favorite drummers.

  • INCREIBLE este solo,, definitivamente weckl es un moustro para tocar bateria, que musicalidad y que virtuosismo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • His drumming is so intense yet so smooth and flowing that it keeps shaking the camera!

  • my god, this guy's an ANIMAL!! Crazy talent!

  • Agreed. Tommy Lee and Travis Barker know nothing about drums.

  • This is my favourite drum solo ever. That's it.

So much imagination...technical prowess...feel...originality...it boggles the mind.

  • absolutely, I just sat there with my jaw hanging. I can play, sure enough, but I can't even begin to wrap my head around some of the stuff this guy does, just sick.

  • There's Dave Weckl...then there's everyone else.

  • Superhuman. I know how good he is, and still my mouth hangs open with awe. There are many greats living and dead, but Weckl is the king.

  • This is superhuman. I know how good he is and still my mouth hangs open in awe. There are many greats, but Weckl is the king.

  • he sounds like that video of him, vinnie, and steve gadd playin together... except its just him

  • The thing about Dave is that he never sounds the same, hes always evolving what he does is just fucking so awesome where not worthy

  • because dave is one of the few remaining drummers of the jazz era, which were and still are the most talented drummers ever, im not trying to knock punk/rock/hiphop or metal drummers because they all have talent, but jazz, swing and bebop drummers were a unique breed

  • i want this guy to be my drummer .. LOL ..

    dave you're a GOD of DRUM ....

  • OK Dave now let's try it so us mere mortals can understand it, lol.

    Best ever right here man.

  • 2:12 - 2:24 makes me feel like I could die and I will have lived a good life.

  • this drum-machine looks like a human...

  • spacca il culo quest'uomo...che talento!

  • Definitely: Im a Weckl-ist. :-)

  • My favorite style of any living drummer.

  • Greatest drummer who ever lived right here.

  • i think he take drumming to max level......

  • 6:22 minutes of pure genius

  • you cant blame some moronic punk kids for worshipping barker... they dont know any better.

  • i wonder what kind of drums those are, they sound very deep and tribal, really liked the beginning with the tom action

  • OMG!! That was RETARDED!! He makes a pretty good argument for being the best technical drummer out there. I know a lot of people say he doesn't have a feel, but I think he grooves just fine. His chops, however, are on a completely different planet. Him, Thomas Lang, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Jojo Mayer might have chops up there with them, but not many others.

  • Unbelievable. What a great drummer.

  • YES I AM

    LOVING

    THIS

    wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • i heart dave

  • listen to the beat at the verry and (what he is starting when the vid stops)

    THAT IS JUST FUCKING AWESOME!!

(and so is the rest of this vid but ok =P)

    Dave owns.

  • now...there is the best drummer...

  • simply unbelievable..he makes peart look like a novice.

  • He's Great on everything! My great inspiration..... dynamics and taste!

  • He's got awesome feel and dynamics. i love the roll at 5:08.

  • The acoustics of the room is awesome just like his playing ofcouse

  • That man is inhuman I say, of a different world.

  • These are the best drums I've ever heard!! Holy damn, so crisp and clean and deep!

  • Grandeeeeeeeeeee

  • He makes it all look and sound soooooo easy...he`s incredible!

  • Does anyone know if he`s using fingercontrol,fx. at 3.35, or is all because of his moellertechnique? No matter what he`s playing or how fast, it allways seems effortless. He`s amazing!

  • Jesus Christ!!

  • Man those this drumset sounds awesome. High quality stuff.

  • Drummaster of all time !!!!

  • Drummaster of all time !!!!!

  • It doesn't get much better than that, like someone earlier said it troubling to think that people happily go and buy britney spears or some other PR rubbish and they have never listened to the likes of dave weckl and Buddy Rich its so wrong!!

  • Ya know, Dave's the one who taught me that dynamics are more than just playing everything at the same volume level. For instance, you can hear almost every single beat he plays, and given that each piece of his kit responds differently (cymbals, cowbells, bongos, snare, floor toms, etc), it takes work to move around and sound even. Other drummers do this welkl, of course, but Dave flows smoothly from soft to loud, and makes it all sound natural.

  • Daves the one who thought me 80% of what i know about drums..

thank you dave for all those great videos!

  • The one thing i like about weckl that everytime i see him soloing there are all different..and thats why he stands tall above the rest

  • You're right on the money. I've never seen Dave play a trible type feel like this before. He can literally do it all. He and guy's like JoJo Mayer are so musical, as well as master technitions!

  • ive been studying this guys licks since the day i started playing, and watching him amazes me every time. freakin amazing!!!!

  • copy that dave will always be king

  • faaarrrrrrrrrrrrrkkk

  • sooo sick btw

  • how can i make my snare sound like that?

  • being dave weckl lol .....

  • i think he just turned off the snare...n just tune it like dave weckl

  • Weckl has elevated drums to a new level.

What bothers me is that so many people have never seen this and buy Britney Spears records ...

  • Yeah, apparently art and the music business don't directly correlate. In fact, they hardly ever do.

Pity, because this is in a different world altogether to what the majority of people would call music, and yet this is music in it's purest form, to perfection.

    ~~

  • Correct, sir. Quite astute at that.

  • That is just insane drumming. By far the best I have ever seen. I cant beleive how good he is.....

  • Musical,incredibile

  • Evolution....yeah

  • By FAR The Best Drummer in the World Today - He Picks up where Buddy Left off - Way to Go DAVE - Love ya ~

  • Along with Antonio Sanchez, the best drummer on earth.

  • man this is heavy. almost scary.

  • This guy is a madman.

  • grande weckl

  • at 5 min. in you are hearing 2 different patterns. groups of 32nd notes, 6 with hands and two with feets, and mixed up with 16th tuplets the 4 with hands and 2 with feets.

  • systematic.

  • Amazing one of the best

He sounds so good wonderful technical musical

  • that pattern he does at about 5:00 is it basically just rlrl kick kick or there abouts? basically a linear pattern? its soo good!!!

  • The Best!!!!!

  • Check out two solos by Barrimore Barlow. One on Jethro Tull's Live Bursting Out CD, and the scottish influenced solo on side 2 of Thick as a Brick. That guy could really put together a fast, and technical, yet structured by parts drum solo! Amazing! A third hand pops out from somewhere!

  • i agree with the buddy comment.he will always be the best. weckl is up there to he has inspired just about every drummer on earth.

  • damn straight.. weckl is the mozart of drums

there hasn't yet been a beethoven

  • Weckl is a human drumline!!!!!!

  • If didn't use a double petal that's amazing

  • I'd be wiling to bet he used double base - still great though.

  • yeah, he uses doubles ive seen close up shots of his kits.

  • he IS the man in drums...

  • Only missing is a large musical structure. Ginger Baker did it in Toad. It was a composition; this is brilliant but has small episodes.

  • such finesse

  • Amazingly, he's actually gotten better over the years...amazing technique. i love his "kitchen sink " approach to soloing.

  • This is why I love drums and being a drummer/musician. Serious motivation to practice, practice, practice. I WANT THAT KIT!

  • He's the one.

  • I have been listening to Dave for many years and have almost every album. I have never seen him live until lately and always pictured his solos as tour de force with a lot of monster physical effort. The fact is he shows how to stick it with minimal effort. You could not do these riffs if all percussion techniques were not just perfect. He does not even look like he breaks a sweat! If this is just another day at the office, thats where I want to work. Thanks for the posting.

    Alboy

  • i just saw chick corea with wooten last night, and i had a perfect side view of weckl 10 feet away, i dont think he broke a sweat at all. Was amazing

  • That is just sick and wrong!

  • Weckl absolutely owns. show me one single drummer that can do what he does. show me one drummer that dave couldn't emulate......well well, look who's the best.

  • Not true becuase there is too much to master for one single drummer to become the greatest of all time. That is why there is a number of players we call the greatest of all time Dave Weckl being one of them

  • well said. I think Buddy is the only drummer still to date I've never seen out done by another. How is that? Just shows you how awesome that guy was or is.. He still live on!

  • he isnt even human

  • not the best of weckl but great!!!

  • Hi. I run this page. Just a reminder: drumming is part of something we call music. Music is not a competition. It is an art. Dave is one of many drummers who is artistic and compelling. Take what you can from each one and enjoy the ride. That's the spirit of the art.

  • drumming like everything else is personal preference. You have guys on other videos here that think Danny Carey is better than Weckl, Caliuta, bozzio, etc... LOL! gimme a break!! Carey's awesome, but he's not jazz drummer. I was born a drummer, meaning my Father taught me the ropes and I like most generations take it to the next level (generally speaking

  • reply to myself. Funny how (IMO) knowone still has de-throned Buddy Rich.. So much for taking it to the next level.. Its just amazing how great he was. Glad I saw him in 86

  • I saw a posting where a guy tried to tell me that no drummer is better than another it is just whatever fits your taste. I told him I disagreed...certain musicians are just hands down better than others. Does anybody else agree?

  • jashaaaaaaaaaa

  • He's always been bad ass. With this video you can see his nature evolution, mixing all the styles any drummer can think of!!!

  • I used to dislike this guy,but nowadays I have to admit he is amazing.Maybe it's the hair thing...

  • EL MEJOR DE TODOS!!!

  • amazing!!

  • There is no comparion to be made. Weckl is a God. Travis is really good at drums.

  • True, I'm not sure Weckl can play punk just as well Barker. Or if Barker can play latin as well as Weckl Can. I do believe that Weckl is the most chill and fluent drummer out there. :)

  • wen u get to Weckl's point in ability its not about whether u can, its if u want to...hes definately faster so i kno he would have no trouble playing cut time 2/4 beats that are extremely repatative

  • hehehe....yeah i think weckl can play punk..ive seen him play straight grooves...punk is easy to play cz its repetitive but what weckl plays is seriously hard to play... :)

  • I believe this guy just gets smoother as time moves forward. I'm glad he came across Freddy Gruber.

  • astounding! talk about mastery of the instrument! Dave shreds unmercifully...and with incredible finesse. Makes it look easy, too; which we know it isn't...

  • i ment beat, not bear ! :-)

  • trop bon le père weckl : je l'adore

  • Life's sometimes hard and human race is often disturbing but when heart, hands and head are used this way you can just be amazed and reconsider for a moment. Art is a wide concept but always strikes! Thank you very very much for posting.

  • beautiful

  • uno de los mejores bateristas en el mundo

  • Dünyada Dave Weckl Türkiyede Volkan Öktem .

  • +100

  • 2:04 !!!!! OMGOSH This dude is sick!

  • he's one guy who makes me appreciate the trad grip so much!

  • HE'S OKAY....but he's no ringo star!! ;-)

  • This is amazing!

  • This is amazing. Ther sound of the drums is so intense...man. Im amazed. I Persini said it perfectly. This is music

  • other than the solo, is any one else amazed about how incredible the drums and cymbals sound here?

  • This is why Dave Weckl is at the top of my list as an influence: his use of triplets and 16th (and even 32nd note) accent patterns is ALWAYS interesting to watch, and he plays with such smooth economy of motion. No matter what your primary musical genre of interest is, I think we can all agree that Dave is probably one of the best and most influencial drummers in the world.

  • it would be cool to see Weckl incorporate the 2/3 clave that horacio hernandez does. (not that weckl needs it)

  • I enjoy to listen to him, his playing is just "liquid"

  • weckl is great i really like his sound

  • he's the best!

  • you write wrong the title dude, this isnt a drum solo, this is music!.. amazing video

  • Plick em Plick em bang a BANG! ....... Ting!

  • Amazing this guy

  • it is amazing how deep dave weckl is. but because of the deepness of his solos, people who don't know anything about music don't understand his solos. too bad for them hahaha

  • I am 36 playing professionally since 1990 and each player is different but the depth of drumming that D. Weckl has reached with his Jazz/fusion blend is almost as deep as the ocean. The afro-cuban undercurrent in this solo was amazing. Don't forget the guy can groove with simple beats. This solo was drumsolo masterpiece if you understand and listen closer. I agree with Jay435's statement who touched on this a few posts back.

  • E'dave weckl,sempre il solito,symply amazing

  • I've been playing for 40 years and have always been fascinated with the fusion of all genres, particularly latin/jazz/rock fusion and I've seen him several times. He is a true grand master of the drum kit and if you listen carefully, all of his solos have a groove. That's the point with him!! If you don't think there's a groove, study more, you're not there yet.

  • The best drummer alive. Who is better? Please don't say Peart. Seriously, is there a drummer better than Dave? I'd like to know.

  • an amazing solo that a professional solo must be like.

    dave, my all time fave..

  • I saw him a few years back. That show stretched all of my conceptions of what humans could do with instruments.

  • Whoever told you that Dave Weckl is a "normal" man is a jerk! ^_^

  • I honestly think he is one of the best players ever known to man! Yes you have all your Pearts and that but Dave is so technically perfect and his hands are lightning fast! My hero! I hope to play like him one day!

  • one of my favorite solos.... i want to play like him

  • Weckl is a must see! Well, at least a must hear. I mean live of course! :) A video is nothing compared to how it sounds when you're there.

    Awesome!

  • neil peart

  • I met Dave at Mikell's in NYC back in 1985 when he was playing with Michel Camilo and Anthony Jackson. My drum teacher Gary Chester recommended I go down and see Dave and introduce myself. Dave was a a decent guy and a helluva drummer back then. After seeing this performance here, I can tell you he has grown tremendously. Absolutely Smokin!!!!

  • holy crap! thats not human

  • owch*

  • lo mejor de lo mejor =)

  • well wicked .drum dudes check out scv and blue devils you can learn a lot of chops from those kids .peace.

  • este tipo es impresionante, que tendran en la cabeza estos genios de la musica?

  • toca muuuuuito!! que técnica apurada!!

  • Weckl's the only drummer that sends chills up my spine. He's a phenomenal musician, technically impossible, and just...puts me at lost for words. *gapes in awe...*

  • This guy definitely has something extra, and is a true musician. I just wish he would exercise a little restraint when playing with bands. Even so, I've never heard a drum solo from him I didn't like!

  • AWESOME AWESOME. Weckl is a all time favorite of mine and never seizes to amaze me.. AWESOME

  • fucken good sound affects

  • fucken goos sound

  • god

  • love the acoustics of the room

  • amazing

  • that was technical, latin, feeling, talent, hard work and ambition combined...scary

  • MrZol... haha... it's on video, and you still can't tell

  • i really wish the camera was behind him

  • Yeah I don't think I can pick winnners but I can pick favorites and Dave gets in the top 5 fav's and if there is some omniscient judgement to be made of who's the best drummer then I think Dave would be high up in the running. His playing here is so fluid and seamless.

  • I would say perfection, but then there's no such thing.

  • yea, its hard to give credit to a drummer without saying too much. Too many good drummers that have very different styles.

  • Monster!

  • Dave really plays with class!

    the consumate professional!

  • his HHX line of cymbals sound really penetrating here

  • Dave outs everybody i know.

  • MUSIC
