I saw them for the first time back in the late 70's in Houston, I think they opened for Humble Pie or Rush, not so sure, I went like!!!!!! r u serious!!!!!!!! wow they rock, I wonder how come he hasn't get the recognition that he deserves, long live Frank Marino!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i`ve seen marino play twice and it was great. i love his whole reflections of war thing, cool. try for freedom will always be my favorite mahogany rush song.
As the story goes, one day Frank influenced by hendrix
picked up a guitar and immediatly was able to play... He later sought out Jimi's dad and played one of jimi's guitars at his dads house completing the transformation into guitar god!
Frank has been interviewed about this myth, It is not true, check it out in his site. he is without a doubt a bad ass guitar player and if you like him, check out Eric Gales!!!
i get the Hendrix link, but far stronger is the simularity with Prince! no really, have another listen and think Purple Rain....odd, but i think they're closer in style/sound/personality......
this was recorded in 1979 way before purple rain was recorded. Frank Marino released his first album Maxoom in 1973 and started recording it when he was still 16 years old. I doubt Frank Marino was influenced by prince and the timeline makes it impossible, price may have been influenced by Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush though...
Frank, Jimi's Prodigy? I didn't know they met. In his early work Frank sure does pay homage to Jimi in many songs. Sure I know of Ernie Isley's work, he's great! Frank was way ahead of the game at a much earlier age though...
thanx all. in my opinion, this is the best concert ever recorded!pure energy-from start- to finnish!!that is why i posted the entire show! FRANK stands head and shoulders above the rest.rock on!! russ.
Oh yeah, I gotta pay respects to Jimmy, Paul, and Vince too! Frank's current lineup are awesome and a nice bunch of guys; each one is a very accomplished player. It still would have been so cool to see Frank with his original band. -Peace.
This is too cool!! Thanx for posting this. Frank is my favorite guitarist/musical performer. I had the honor of seeing Mahogany Rush live the first time 2 years ago in Pittsburg, and again last year in Sellersville, PA. Those guys absolutely kill; incredible!!
The solos on this are mind-blowing and spiritual. Just a example: Look at timestamp:5:55. Look at him, Frank is so sincere and lost in the music as he fuses with that high note just resonating into infinity. Moving to timestamp: 6:13, he cuts loose with a fury that stuns you like some monster savior. But just as he's blowing off with all those super fast notes, look at his face, he's letting go, relaxing, and giving himself up to the music. It's inspiring to hear and watch.
What a gift and passion he didn't need tabs, Frank knew the way!

I still have the California Jam album that he was on. He played Johnny B Goode and King Bee, if I remember correctly.

Correction to my previous posting: Frank is not giving himself up to the music, he's giving himself up to a higher power beyond music.
