  • u should write a list of everything in your kit and flash it on the screen for 5 seconds then people who want to will pause it and read it.( I am one of them)

  • So what's a level 4 look like? Lol

  • hey nutn what song is that playing in the intro forgive me i was born in 78 lol

  • wtf, 20 minutes wasted on something completely unrelated to lvl 2 medical kit and next 10 on something just scratching lvl 2

  • funny if you go on to amazon searching for some of these items, other items he suggests pops up as frequently bought with this item. I searched blackhawk medical roll and them baggies he uses popped up lol.

  • Love the intro!

  • Nutnfancy 2016!!!

  • I love this. I am going to Africa for 6 months doing lots of different work, construction, computer networking....etc. You should seriously consider selling those level 1 kits on your website. FREAKIN AWESOME. I would buy at least 3. Just a thought, keep the vids comin man, love e'm!

  • @ConorDAberle18 in fairly sure he dosent have a website....

  • Hello.Sweden here.I already did mi first bath......well sauna before..

    Best regards //Janne.

    Sorry my bad english

  • whats the name of that catalog you show in your video?

  • consider including uncoated aspirin as one of your OTC pain relievers, as it has anti-platelet function (prevents blood from clotting) and has been proven to improve the outcome of heart attacks if taken upon onset/recognition of symptoms. Aspirin should not be taken if you have a previously identified allergy, a recent gastrointestinal bleed, or are currently bleeding. I am not a doctor or health care professional.

  • skip to 23:00 before he starts talking about anything relevant to the first aid kit

  • @mike1234567ify thanks for the tip . bro

  • 14:10 grandfather of all internet trolls

  • OpticsPlanet has the BlackHawk Emergency Medic Roll on sale for 36% off.

  • great job nutnfancy1!

  • Quikclot military protocols say use a tourniquet FIRST for arterial bleeding, then apply the necessary trauma bandage, stop bleed, loosen tourniquet. Can you confirm that? Last I was trained in USAF, tourniquet application assumes the limb will require amputation. Apparently thats not the case, so i've heard, t-quets have been applied and left on for hours with no amputation.

  • Good job on the personal med kit.

  • At the hospital I work at we have intubation boxes all over the hospital. We put a sticker with the name and date of the item that expieres first on the outside of the box so that we dont have to go through the entire box every month to see what has gone bad. That might help with the expiered med problem.

  • Love your vids. You're a great American and global citizen. Keep it up!

  • I dont know much about american cars (aussie muscle fan) but that looks like a Grand Torino at 2:42

  • Beautiful kits Nut'n!! I get the bags for my "level 1" kit from royalbags(dot)com.. I use the 6mil 8" by 10" bags for the outer bag and several 4mil assorted sized bags for internal components just in case there is leakage of NeoSporin which I now duct tape like you suggested after having a leak. Keep up the wonderful reviews and phlyosophy videos..

  • where do you get the supplies. It would great to see a list of supplies and venders under the show more section. Maybe already somewhere I have not seen. Like to know where to get plastic bags, canvas first aid bad, etc

  • I may look for shower cases now for my home or car. What a good idea.

  • i always carry 1 or 2 flares, so if an airlift is required they can find you easily.

  • Many thanks for the vids on these kits - I have semi-customised a store-bought one but am making a level 1 kit following your basic design for hiking as the store-bought one is very bulky for the contents. I got a bit more space from ideas in these vids (tape rolls take up a lot of space!).

Mine always end up bulky due to compression bandages for snake bites (high chance for me),

Maybe you could carry some cards in your kits with links to these videos to give to people you patch up :)

  • You may have addressed this but I missed it. Your son is a emt what is his "opinion" on the dates of medicine?

  • intro reminds me of deliverance ...

  • I just wanted to let you know that in building my "advanced medical kit" I utilized the local home health care shop to get bulk pack supplies including 200 4x4 sponges for $4.99 and more!

  • Thanks for these videos man, I'm learning so much about things I would have never thought about while in the great outdoors- especially this medical series. I love how down-to-earth and practical you are without having to be idiot proof (Like my lifeguarding first aid class, 'be careful unconscious diving victims may be injured'. Yeah no duh Shurlock!) If you ever organize all your videos into DVD's let me know and Ill buy em!

  • @lawcorp You should go for your EMT!

  • hey the picture at 10:00 is me(well not tenicly me but its the picture on my channle, dont belive me see for your self, and this is not a spam message i crapying hate those just saying that its my picture

  • Hey Veri, which one of the sisters in the beginning are you?

  • To backup your expired meds. the meds on our ambulance when they are past there date get pulled out of service and sent to Mexico were they are used for a couple more years.

  • @firemedic2460 classic fire douche... medications lose potency but still work. you should stick to hose dragging.

  • A+ med kit, you may want to check out patriotnurse's video on expiration dates because it gives great info

  • These videos will help me make my first aid kit and also if a guy i know who's an army medic or doctor forgot which, but if i get a chance to talk with him again i can easily get a lot of tips and ideas. for my Level 1 which i'll take when i go solo hiking/camping.

  • Good website for buying first aid stuff? :)

  • @MrPhotoFreakish stat medical dot com for buying first aid stuff.

  • 2 fails, i sliced through my knee with a k-bar heavy bowie, and i didn't have a suture kit... everyone needs a suture kit in their pack, i was able to hop down Mt. Mitchell on a good leg with the help from a rescue squad. Always be prepared, and safe hiking!!!!!

  • what wuz the name of that song at the begging.i loved it.

  • @TheDanholla the sone is "Jeans On" by David Dundas

  • one thing about how you have the medicine ..... You should really get the ones that are in their own packet ( they have them at wal mart) The pills could rub against each other and its not really "Safe" to eat.

My mom use to put them in a small pill bottle and i, as a child, ended up taking a pill that had Alieve on it ( I can not take that, i break out in hives) and I had to go to the doctor..... Just make sure no one is allergic to the meds, if you can not get the packets.

  • nice AMC at 2:50

  • cool pics

  • What is the song called in the beginning

  • Nutn, im a huge fan i love your reviews please keep making them they are very very helpful, this is a weird question i live in pa and a very good friend of mine who now moved to Texas his father looks exactly like you his name is James i will leave out the last name but i swear he could be your brother. he acts just like you in every way just wondering haha

  • @PAGS4747 Nutn was born in Texas..but no relation. =) -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy Nutn or Veri, do you recall what song Nutn used in the intro? Love it!

  • Thank you sir. Great Part 1.

  • hey thats great good time pic's glad you have a happy and great famley

  • You should put markings on jour fluid casings now that you have put black tape on it so that you dont have to open it to see whitch one it is

  • We need more people like you on YT. ;) Really helpful and great medical setups. Keep it up.

  • Hey TNPers, I just picked up the epic "Blackhawk Emergency Medical Roll - Black 20EMR1BK" for $30!!! Good price and free shipping! OpticSale (.) Com

  • Found the large maxi-pads at the dollar tree store today 4pk for 1$. Check out the local Dollar Tree or dollar store in your area.

  • Shorten your video u talked 12 minutes without even entry your kit, thank anyway dude

  • Youre absolutely right; it is ridiculous to expect to replace all the medication in all your first aid kits. However, I would recommend that you replace your hydrogen peroxide regularly. It is essentially H2O2 and will decompose to literally just water and oxygen (2H2O+O2). Another viewer mentioned that you light will make it less effective. Light speeds up the decomposition rate. Thank you for all your vids Nutn!

  • @QQitsPoppinFresh Your absolutely right. Also Hydrogen peroxide is relatively very inexpensive. Its an essential for all first aid kits.

  • Wow. That is a testament to the reliability of Blackhawk products.

  • And always remember, a first aid kit is an EMERGENCY option. If you're seriously hurt, your best bet is a hospital, and the first aid kit is just a fall-back (in case you can't get to a hospital) or to keep the injury controlled until you get to the hospital.

  • Hey.... Your videos are awsome but they ar cind too long... i love the content that you show but try to shorten some factors that mack these vids longer (im brazilian so my speling should be realy bad)

  • @Jamesbolado2 Hey man you can fast-forward all you want. Nobody is making you watch the entirety of his well detailed videos.

  • @Jamesbolado2 Your spelling is a lot better than most American Youtube users.

  • Wow, I have watched almost all your videos, most more than once and have passed many on to friends. Dude your like my youtube station of choice. My wife knows your voice, but I discovered a trick, headphones. I've been watching your videos for months and have never commented until now. I cannot tell you how many times I have meant to comment and say how helpful your videos are. More importantly, your obvious passion for life in general is inspiring for me. Thanks a million!

  • A "nice to have" feature of any med kit that is not regularly used is to put the "last checked date" of the bag on either a piece of tape or tag attached to a zipper pull. Some places like Red Cross or fire dept, we interlock a bread bag twisties through the twin main zippers, if so-equipped, so we know it wasn't used. The last checked date also helps when checking for things like expirations of meds i.e. glucose if you are carrying those. A drawback would be having to undo the twist-tie.

  • hey nutnfancy you should relly think about selling those level one&two first aid kits like on your site or ebay man you could make some cash i would definely purchase a few from you for me and friend i carry homemade one now but mine do compare to your think about it and post back thanks mike..

  • you look like your dad

  • A good way to keep track of expiration dates is to use a piece of medical tape and write the dates and medications on it. If placed on the front of either plastic or fabric kits, you will see it without having to open or disect your kit. Just like anything else, if a med is expired-its useless. Why carry it then?

  • awsome first aid kit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My kit is 11 pounds... is that too much? :D

  • I was introduced to first aid kits over thirty years ago on my first backpack trip into the Bob Marshall wilderness. Since then, (like NutN) I've been learning and growing my first aid kits and knowledge. It's an evolving process and he's right it's expensive. But it is gratifying when you can fix someone up who needs a bit of first aid. Great video Nutn!

  • i made a level 1.5 kit pretty cheep. most stuff i got i picked up from hospitals after surgeries. its got tons of gauze, tape, wraps, ternacits (dont know how to spell it), bandaids, prescription strength anti bacterial meds, pain meds, soap ear stuff, and a lot more and its only slightly bigger than yours and its only 13 oz

  • i would hate to figure out that those names for everyone was their actual name haha

  • Anyone know when the actual review starts?

  • Where did you get Ethicon suture? You didn't buy the freaking expensive boxes, did you? Did you find some place to buy them individually?

  • i might be redundant but i like the song who is that.

  • :56 hahaha the 70's

  • Just open the thing! Haha

  • Is there a condensed list of your First Aid Kit contents in one place, so I don't have to watch a couple of hours of video to find out?

  • @Supermassively If it isnt worht your time to learn then I hope I never have to rely on you in an emergency. "Hey man I made mine for a 2 minute video cuz Im lazy".

  • @Blessedhart LOL! What the fuck are you talking about, moron? I'm a veterinary surgical nurse with a first aid certification, so you can go fuck yourself! You just let me know that you don't want any help if I'm ever nearby in an emergency situation, and I'll be sure to let you bleed out!

  • @Supermassively Wonderful attitude to have. Its people like that crush any hope for humanity in the world. Dont brag about your "lifesaving" training (for animals) and cuss me out about letting me bleed out. BTW i have a first aid certification too...doesnt mean anything if you dont know how to apply what you learn and be willing to KEEP LEARNING. You cant have life figured out by age 23 (just guessing based on your attitude).

  • @Blessedhart Bad guess. We're the same age. Please tell me where I said anything about not continuing first aid education? Your whole string of posts is just irrational and irrelevant.

  • ok im alittle confused. My dad was a marine and was a medic he then went into the navy also being a medic. My mom is a medical coder for the VA and both of them have taught me alot about medical situtations. Im only a teenager but whats stopping me from having a level 3 kit? itd make more sense to go with something bigger and with much more in it then a smaller one

  • 00:22 ...Even back then you knew what you wanted to be when you grew up! So very rare to see in youngsters these days....you, sir are true piece of Americana.

  • Hahaaa - I love the stripped shirt Veri is wearing in the slideshow. Very retro...

    Great series as alway Nutn!

  • I have a level three first aid kit, i do agree with nutn in the fact that if you feel like you need the capabilities of a level three you should seek training. I am a first responder working on my emt basic. I only feel safe using tools such as a endotracheal tube because i have had previous training. It's not the cheapest thing. I spent close to nine hundred dollars on my kit and im still expanding. But i am ready for almost any emergency situation that i find myself in.

  • DUDE! we had the same boat growing up. My dad one turn it around and raise the till and spray everyone on the beach! Thanks...

  • You are one of a kind nutnfancy. It says alot about your character to take the time to spread some knowledge as save some lives.

    Thank you.

  • nutnfancy your how i want to be as a dad even though you can get sorta redneck your philosophies are perfect and very old american and i hope more people act like you as adults

  • @ikeehw Nothing about him is redneck. He's a freaking Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force. That means he's an educated man who went to college and is doing great things for this country. If he were a redneck, he'd be an uneducated, unemployed piece of trash who just sucks welfare.

  • @Supermassively yes well i hope you realize i did not mean that with any disrespect and that isn't the exact definition of redneck as i would define it

  • man i dont know where you find the time to do all this but thanks for all the info you give you make you tube great

  • dont mean to offend u, but sumtimes,..... u talk to much. i mean, u talked for nearly all of this vid.i kno ur trying to tell us useful stuff, but u just keep talking and talking...................

  • @MakoBlaze911 He is teaching philosophy. Just blatant info is whats really boring. your short attention span just cant handle it. You took the time to comment but couldnt watch the vid?

  • expiration dates is just how long a product will minimally last... I've used cream that were three days over the expiration date and it was perfectly fine, I did throw it out when it started to smell funny though

  • David Dundas and First Aid!!!! What a combo!

  • I LOVE THAT SONG

  • I agree with you on the medication point, I have advil from two years ago, still gets the job done.

  • I'm not sure if this was noted in this video but when it comes to outdated medicine, or food for that matter. The expiration date does NOT mean it's no longer any good. It is simply a sale date. Milk is a common example, a sealed container of milk, free of outside bacteria and cold, generally stay longer then the expiration date. The expiration date on most things is nothing more then a guide line for how long it'll last. Most medicines will last at least 6 months after the expiration

  • Trying to find that mylar bag is damn near impossible, if you could have a link as to where to find those document bags that would be great. Really enjoying these vids.

  • @billtwistedracing These are hard to source a lot of times. Have you tried discountplasticbags (DOT) com? -- Veri

  • @billtwistedracing black-hawk, and 511 have tactical gear you may like, using the webbing for attachments.

  • Emergency Essentials has cheep prices and you can buy stuff pice by pice

  • I watched the vids and i didn't see(or missed) something for allergic reaction? Anybody have any suggestions other than an epi-pen? I know vinegar for certain applications...

  • @22004454 if you are looking 4 sumthing for alergies the best thing you can carry a strong dose antihistamine that can buy you time for just about all allergies but if it is severe you will still pbly die(eg.bees) however it can buy you time 2 get medical help but otherwise it will work for standerd allergies and poison ivy ,oak ,and sumac hope this helps and good luck

  • i agree with using the medicine after its experation i was told sometime and correct me if i'm wrong i was told that the fda requires them to put an experation date but it still works up to 10 years after its expired

  • The "First Aid Kit Review" series is kinda old but I just came across it (and YOU nutn!) and I am very grateful for you making it. Thank you for your great work!

  • Hey nutn used your kits as a model for my own and they have done well on quite a few occasions. But the last time one was used it was not by me nor was I present. After spending a while breaking down the kit to see what was used. I have now added an ingredients check list and marker and a primitive numbering system in the kit

Now when Im out for a while I can keep track of what was used and what I still have left and when I get back I can know what I need to buy to restock

    just a thought

  • I just read cayenne pepper can stop heavy bleeding, It can be put in a small container and kept in your kit. I thought that was cool...

  • love the song

  • Im using pelican cases for my first aid stuff, its heavier but water proof and hopefully sterile!

  • hey nutn, I really love the vids. I've been looking for that brigade QM pack, but so far haven't been able to find it... does anybody know some alternatives for a similar price point or the item name?

  • @coderedstudiosYT

Its not a Brigage QM pack, its called a Blackhawk Medic Roll.

Just googled it and found it selling in several places.

    Hope that helps

  • @coderedstudiosYT

Err..sorry thought of your comment while re watching the vid.

I think your referring the the green pack with pouches that roll up.

Thats an army CLS (Combat Life Saver) bag. Those should be available at many military surplus stores, or online.

Though the style he has is the older style, the newer style is basicly the same except its a little bigger and has a more boxy shape when rolled up.

The new style bag might also be called a T3C Bag.

  • @evanthemack sunlight will degrade it hence why it came in a solid color bottle, but dunno about the temp it should say what best temp should store in

  • @evanthemack I'm NOT sure but I think as long as its capped it should still be good would be better if seal was still on also i don't know but I believe that your not supposed to have it over a specific temperature.

  • love these vids - im doing the same - my uh-huh moment came when i broke a tooth and had no emergency dental supplies! that will also ride in my kit.

  • this song gets stuck in my head, for years at a time, Lol.

  • Sweet.. Very helpful Thanks Great job!!!

  • I think this is my favorite series....and I've watched nearly all 600+ vids....and they all rock too, but this one is the best. Lifesaving.

  • Veri is that you with the awesome multi colored sweater standing by the sign at the beginning!

  • Thanks again TNP! Time to get started on my kits. My 2 cents--the DoD standard, Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), may be useful for WROL or Close To Engage scenarios. Lots of TCCC info on the naemt website. I will develop my kits based on the NUTNFANCY vids and the TCCC Skill Sets up thru Combat Lifesaver. Training too, at least a Red Cross refresher but also live tissue if I can afford it (since I didn't get it on the road to the ski slopes).

  • LOL!! Re-watching this series as I'm putting together a Level II FAK. Love the pic of the "hall-monitor." (the overweight nerd sitting at his vintage computer)

  • do a video on your suvival kits

  • bulet operacin

  • dude u talk too much

  • where can i buy some mylar water proof document envelopes nutnfancy?

  • For those of you just starting out, a good way to go is to get a ready made first aid kit with the size and compartment arrangements that you like, and then add to it as money allows. You can upgrade the carry system once you outgrow the first...

  • @gazedrop Around how much would you think a "capable" first aid kit would run me? I'm talking about at the scene of a car accident or something. I really want to keep one in the trunk of my car. Sorry if a cost was mentioned in the vid, I had to skim through it due to a lack of time.

  • @BrandonEclipse My starting point for my car kit is the (now apparently unavailable) REI Backpacker First Aid Kit (google it, an archived version comes up). I paid about $40-45 for it. With any luck, they'll bring it back. A lot of bang for the buck, and room for more stuff in it's fairly well designed roll-out pouch.

  • @BrandonEclipse That said, I'm in the process of making a custom pouch once my kit contents are more equal to Nutnfancy's kit. That Blackhawk pouch is nice, but I don't like how he has to stuff similar items all over the place; I think each panel, or pair of panels, should be dedicated to a type of first aid, or a step in the first aid process. And apologies for not seeing your question sooner!

  • @gazedrop Oh np, ty for the reply. I'll probably be heading out next weekend (training exercise this weekend) and start purchasing stuff for my own kit.

  • i have a first aid kit level 1 i will make a vid soon

  • :32 made me lol

  • The small travel/trial sizes of Lysol are a good disinfectant as well for a kit like this. Lysol is a wonderful disinfectant/antiseptic that people tend to overlook for this purpose.

  • As anyone can see, nutn has been doing this his whole life. Def someone I trust for advice. Great vids!

  • Info for use as you see fit on meds:

The standard for the expiration date is that the medicine has 90% or more of its original content. So for an expiration date of 1 year you can presume that you have at least 90% at 1 year, 81% at 2 years, 73% at 3 years, 66% at 4 years and so on. This decay rate is at 75^F. For every 10^F increase, the decay rate approximately doubles. Also as a rule of thumb, OTC meds decay into fairly harmless oxides. Many prescription meds decay into toxins.

  • Whats the name of the song at the end & begining?

  • Its David Dundas singing "Jeans On"...waaay old, too! Its a great song though. I think Keith Urban did a version too. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • Good vid, sir. You have inspired me to step up and keep some good kits around the home and cars. Though, I have not tried to find opportunities to use them, they have just kind of happened lately. I've also considered packin a L1K in a molle webbed bag for on the range....anyways, good vids and cheers!

  • @gcensor

Sure he can see his shortcomings. He talks about them all the time, or didn't you notice how he mentions how he's not a know-it-all expert and is constantly learning?

  • Gotta have Morphine syrettes in your kit lol !!!!!! incase you get attacked by a cougar or bear and survive ... those tylenol want do the trick if little johhnys limb is hanging off

  • to bad its illegal unless your prescribed some and if you are then gl because your dieing.

  • There are ways to get illegal things.

  • true just saying to have narcotics without a prescription is a LARGE penalty. I would think that if you were smart that you would travel to a place that had them and take them (after the shit hits the fan) or trade for them. Just saying someone that was smart might think of that not saying that i would or recommending.

  • FYI the Galls Catalogue has a lot of great albeit spendy options for first aid bags. Actually they have a lot of great stuff, but their paramedic duffels are top notch. Honest to god bags designed for the purpose of hauling med. gear etc.

  • Nutn Im a big fan,,, love tnp.. but I gotta be honest,,, sometimes you just talk and talk and talk.. and a lot of it is just rambling.. *sigh* I just needed to get that out there.. I just think this should have been like a 10 minute video... like youll be getting into it then randomly stop and start expaining something in excruciating detail something youve already explained 3 times.. *sigh*

  • amen brother

  • to eriequiet: I'm not trying to start an argument, bring up a week old comment, or be a jerk but I know I'm gonna come off that way but: If you don't like his rambling don't watch his videos....problem solved. Time is precious but so if information so set back, listen, and learn something.

  • @eriequiet Yes Nutn, we love but stop yappin! ;-)

    Seriously though... good sh*t!

  • @eriequiet I really like his talking though, makes the videos fun to watch and informative of the overall picture which alot of people miss, Nutn explains everything surrounding it and the pack itself..

  • @eriequiet maybe, some of us like that about him

  • wat an awsome vid. great touch with th music/pic and first aid info

  • Should you have hemostats, suture tweezers, and scissors to use with the sutures ?

  • Hey, dude, if you know what to do with them, ABSOLUTELY. These few thingies give you a lot of power when dealing with wounds. The only con is, without a proper skillset they're next to useless. You might be interested in USNERDOC's channel - he's got hell of a good vids on first aid. Make sure to see Suturing In Austere Conditions.

  • Hello again, This video is the great as far as suturing is concerned. I have a little Med training from working in an E.R. I sent you a list of camping gear. Did you get it. I didn't know where to send it, so I just posted there link in another comment. Thank you.

  • Dang, looks like YouTube stripped the URL. How can I get it to you?

    Jack

  • LOL I know this has no relavence to anyone else maybe, what is the name of the song at the begining.

  • @4ytre David Dundas, Jeans on

  • for the army style kit, i think an idea would be labeling them, but that's just me.

  • a snake bite kit is also a good idea for a level 1 or 2, they come pretty small and compact

  • @Ep33n, those snake bite kits dont work; at least for snake bites. They are good for removing stingers, etc. all the research has shown that they either have no effect or actually damage tissue, antivenom is the only thing that treats snake bites. And snake bites in N Amer are seldom fatal, so save your $5-$10.

  • This kit is too good, I've taken too many notes on what's in your kit from all of your videos. I used so many pieces of paper and my shopping list is HUGE but I thank you for putting these videos up. Thanks

  • when all ya grow up lol , a bunch of Private Security Contractors hired by Companies would either steal all your jobs or protect the houses of the Rich so watch out because the world is running low and if your not a Private military contractor your going to get screwed if your not one or getting protected by one.

  • Even though you are quite blunt, I agree with 70% of your statements. I am only 23 but I already know it. Good thing is there is the GOOD people that will rise and balance it out and we are getting good training. Watching those vids is like going to Harvard of survival and self-sufficiency.
