Well as far as i know, Conklin have 2 jacks. One for bass and one for guitar, might explain that? I honestly can't look at a guitar the same since getting an 8 string. It gives you so many more options when your playing. I'm actually building one this summer because, options that companies provide for 8 strings aren't enough really, and to go custom is rather expensive! Can't wait!
Conklin = Godly... I wish I had the cash to fork out for a custom. Or even a New Century Series.... I must say that you are incredible at singing while playing. You're a good player, but to be able to sing while keeping that line that tight is mind boggling.
I agree bro, this was a really awesome song! Speaking of Chapman sticks, have you actually played one? I'm thinking about getting one, but I've never been able to talk to someone who's actually spent time playing them.
I played a Chapman Stick for a few years. They are about as cool as an instrument gets. They are a challenge to learn, though. Feel free to send me a message if you have questions about them.
I recorded all of this direct, no amps or preamps...except for the ones on the guitar which are Bartolinis. I think I used a compressor and EQ, too. The pickups are split so I can send the top 4 strings to a guitar amp, and bottom 4 to a bass amp which is what I like to do live. The guitar is featured on the Conklin site as the April "Project of the month" if you want to see all they did when making it.
Haha I never connected the two, so that's your guitar then (in reference to the project of the month thing) haha 'Don's guitar was not to be a simple one pickup, one volume, passive output set-up however...h no, he wanted the moon and the stars' =D I've got an 8 string on order from Bill, can't wait for it, how was getting used to it?/it feel bulky? Mine's going to = 22.75 - 25.75 scale length (Low B - high A) keep it up man, not my kind of thing but I can really see how people would love this!
It did take some getting used to. I think it was easier to go from a 7 string to an 8 string than it was to go from the 6 to the 7. The 8 string that they made me was so different that it made it an entirely new instrument that I had to approach differently. I have barely tapped into the potential of it, so in that way it has been harder to get used to, but just playing the guitar is so nice, that the physical side was not a challenge at all.
Cool stuff, well already got a 7 indeed and didn't take too long for me to get used to that with some intense playing for long lengths of time so shall see when it's finished, cheers for the reply =)
josh has a point ibby dude. munky had his custom 8 before dino even heard of 8 string guitars. dino got into them after seeing meshuggah and playing martens after a new york show. munky has had his for years now.

I may save up the money for the lower-end "New Century Series" Conklins. Do you think it would be worth the $2,000+?

nice! do you know who eles plays an 8 string? munky of korn. i think he wrote the new untitled album with it. check it out.
josh4rock 4 years ago
uhm dude, Munky uses 7 string guitars tuned to A. It is low, but not as low as an 8 string. Bands like Meshuggah or Divine Heresy use an 8 string...
