  • mass hysteria.

  • one of my mothers cousins killed himself when this broadcast. He jumped off a bridge in the Ohio valley =(

  • Wow! I used some of these quotes as a sample for one of my new songs

  • And this was before everyone was numbed by television and video games, so it was that much scarier.

  • Alien Invasion? NOPE. Chuck Testa.

  • This is fun to listen to around Halloween.

  • I saw a really cool video where they found 2 girls (old women now) who where alive during this. One was in the shower, not really getting why her music was being inturrupted, and when she realized, and started screaming. The other one, her mom came in and woke all the kids up and said " were all going to die and if were all going to die, were going 2 die together." so they all went into the living room and waited to die!! Lol! well not funny for them then but they where laughing during the video!

  • cant believe how much people thought it was a real brodcast xD

  • I can see it! I'm making a picture in my head!

  • I like how the US got rickrolled

  • He just trolled the whole population..

  • Did Welles do all of these voices, or were there others?

  • @whtskn88 He did a good number of voices, the rest I'm sure are other performers of the Mercury Theatre on the Air.

  • Lol I like how they're talking about these terrifying things and then go to classical music.

  • @1235link For me it seems like it's a good device to build suspense

  • I wanna do this so badly to the American public. That would be fucking awesome.

  • It's no wonder people thought it was real when it aired. If they tuned into it any time after it began they wouldn't know the difference.

  • @AssassinNeko thanks for that post, I used a bit of it in a story that i was writing XD

  • Wow i dont know that I would have been tricked, i am someone who analyzes everything when im put in a corner, so i would have been like, if this is real then why is the band still playing? wouldn't they pay attention? and if something like this was happening i would ask, why do they cut back to the band isnt this too important. like its so funny how its like EXPLOSIONS ON MARS AND BIG ALIENS HAVE LANDED AHH!!!... we now return to our piano overlude! tada da da! todaloo loo loo! lol.. like wtf

  • @TopSideUp You have to remember, this radio broadcast was in the fifties, when people were less skeptical, and we were in love with space as the great unknown. And they weren't really freaking out until the man on the scene actually described an alien attack. They kept cutting back to the orchestra...mostly to fill time (in the sense of a realistic broadcast), and to keep people calm. Besides, if you were listening to this about ten minutes in, you'd be flipping your shit, because Orson

  • @SSVCloud "This radio broadcast was in the fifties"? This aired in 1938... Still, you make a fair point and I hate to point out stupid mistakes, I guess I just felt like being a jerk today...I apologize

  • @TopSideUp makes it sound real, and the first break wasn't for 45 minutes.
