This song really works well with the feeling of abandonment that you get from the atmosphere of Laputa. It also set the stage for the climax quite well.
omg when i watched most of Laputa collapse, i was so sad, thinking that the last robot died from it, but i almost cried of happiness when it showed the robot with his animal friends still on laputa when Pazu ans Sheeta fly away <:)
@KurodaiaTeam Indeed. As much as I liked the original score, I really can't go back to it after hearing this rerecording. It is simply beautiful, and works very well for the film. In fact, I can't imagine the Disney dub without it.
@Turnajon Even though I thought this scene was a little unnecessary, I agree. I wonder how the rerelease handled it? (I stopped watching that version halfway because it was pissing me off.)
@CaptainRaccoonWhitly I found out that the BluRay (the Japanese one so far), keeps the new score of LAPUTA that Joe Hisaishi made, but still omits the extra dialogue. A little better IMO, but I think there should be some places where the extra dialogue should be allowed to stay, regardless of what purists say about it.
@Turnajon If it's in the native Japanese, that makes sense. Still, I don't see why they can't include both versions (it's not like Blu-Ray can't handle that, what its storage capacity.) Then again, I have the original release and no Blu-Ray player, so that's not something that worries me at the moment.
@CaptainRaccoonWhitly Yeah, I'm not too worried about it either. Even so, it is unfortunate that Disney felt they neeed to listen to the purists. It's not like they'd watch the dub otherwise. Even with a different dub cast, they would still rail against it and compare it unfavorably to the Japanese. Which is a pretty narrow thing to do, but purists will be purists.
@Ironyumi5 What he means by the rerelease is the 2010 DVD reissue. The 2003 DVD has this goregous new score as well as a couple of extra liens to help flesh out the characters. Sadly, the 2010 DVD does away with all that, and sadly, it just makes Disney's dub sound more empty and vacant than it actually is. IMO, Disney's dub plays much better on the 2003 DVD release.
This music looks very much like the one of Nausicaa and the valley of the Wind.

@SageZane560 That's what I thought, too. Self-reference by Hisaishi, intentional or not, who knows :)

my favourite animation of all time, no modern cg (or composers) have managed to match the epicness (if thats a word) of laputa.

@CaptainRaccoonWhitly wait wait, there was a RE release...?

@Ironyumi5 Yes. It's even worse than the original Disney version supposedly was. Avoid it like the plague.
