Nice video. I bought one for my Hitachi turntable. Don't know what it sounded like before, as I installed the 2M Red straight away, but I was very pleased with the results. I'm a novice at turntable set up. So, I may not even have it installed perfectly, but after months of play I am still impressed. I just got a Sure M97xE Audiophile cartridge for a different turntable (Micro Seiki) and I like the Hitachi/2M Red sound a little bit better than the Micro/Sure combo.
@meddleau yeah, i eyeballed the azimuth which is a no no but it still sounds great months later on my Sony PS-X50. so maybe we can say that it's forgiving! which was good since this was my first "serious" cartridge purchase. Haven't seen a lot of Hitachi turntables. The Japanese audiophile period in the 70s and 80s is interesting to me, but I don't know a lot about it. My Sony is a beast physically, but very friendly sonically.
@ElimRem The 2M red is what's called a standard or 1/2 inch mount cartridge. Most turntables have either a standard mount or a p-mount. you just need to find out which one yours is. You can get adapters to make any cartridge fit any table, but I would avoid that and stick with whatever your turntable is supposed to use.
@thebert03 I don't know much about that turntable, but the PS series seems to have been (at one time at least) a respectable line of turntables. Mine sounds awesome on my PS-X50. And you can upgrade your table and keep the cart later if you want!
@splendidmike RE: Upgrade. You're as bad as my drummer. He has been pushing me to get a Rega RP1. It's their entry model and very nice, but $445 on the debit card can get you a week on the couch, if you dig what I am saying.
Hey Mike! Nice video! Nice to see a fellow AK'er. This was cool! When I got my 2M Red, it didn't come packaged like yours in styro. It came in a black plastic box with a clear crystal cover. Totally different. This was a great video! I remember that teeny tiny instruction manual!! Hilarious! Side note....you have very attractive hands!
@phantasm1004 Thanks for all the kudos. I have to say I was probably more impressed by that notched Styrofoam than I should have been, but most companies would have just put a piece of tape on there. That attention to detail made a good first impression on me.
makes me want to spend money of one of each color.

What's your Hitachi model number?

@splendidmike The Hitachi model is HT-350. Not sexy by any means, but a solid daily driver.

Cool video. Just picked up one of these myself for my Sony PS-LX350H. Is that like mounting a Gibson 57' pickup on a $50 particle board guitar?

@splendidmike I agree about the sound; it is analog nirvana! (once I got it on and got my turntable set up correctly).
Great stylus for the price.
