So the move Ahmed Johnson called the Pearl River Plunge was actually the Tiger Driver not the Bomb. so that's why Jamie Noble called it the Gibson Driver.
I'm no SD, but I can explain this one. This move is the Tiger Driver, innovated by Tiger Mask. A Tiger Bomb is a standing release version, and the piledriver is a Spike Tiger Driver (as the head of the opponent goes straight down) or Tiger Driver '98.
However, the name of this move is usually switched between Tiger Driver (the correct name) and Tiger Bomb (the incorrect name).
It all depends on how the creator of the move calls it. It is technically a powerbomb, but ever since Mitsuharu Misawa (as the second Tiger Mask) used it, that's how it was always referred to as.
Funny enough, actually, I believe that this powerbomb move is the only one called a driver.
Actually, there's no such thing as a "Tiger Bomb", as far as I know and have read. The Butterfly Sit-out Powerbomb is called a Tiger Driver and the Butterfly Powerbomb is simply called a Double Underhook Powerbomb.
The name "Tigerbomb" was conceived by the WWE Video Games.
It depends though. I don't think I've heard any commentator (normally they should know the moves) call it a Butterfly Powerbomb, to be honest. I could be wrong, but that's as far as I know.
I still call it the Pearl River Plunge.

There is none. End of story. Anytime the term "Tiger Bomb" is used, it's incorrect.
TheSuicidalDragon 2 years ago
its true name is tiger driver
tiger bomb is an incorrect term

That's correct.

so that Sheerdrop, variant that Jay Briscoe calls the J-Driller is that just a Sheerdrop version of the Tiger Driver o another move entirely?
Ryujin65 2 years ago
The Jay Driller is a Tiger Driver '98, which is a Double Underhook Piledriver.

you've been playing smackdown vs raw for too long.

i dont play svr
stratrat619 2 years ago
oh I thought you might have because the svr series mistakenly refers to the tiger driver as a tiger bomb.

That mat sounds stiff as shit!

Love the tiger driver, simple and very effective.

It's never referred the Tiger Bomb in Japan. Tiger Bomb is just an inncorect naming(American Announcers) of the Tiger Driver.
manjifanhism 2 years ago 3
For all his great announcing, you can blame Joey Styles for this name botch.
bluebomberx 2 years ago
I've rarely heard American Announcers call it the Tiger Bomb.

@Mistertbones its called Tiger Driver, Tiger bomb is wrong
808TROY 9 months ago
That's my point. it's called the Tiger Driver.

Hey dragon...Can you explain something to me..
I thought this move used to be considered "tiger bomb" where the double underhook piledriver would be named "tiger driver"...What happened with that?

Hope that cleared things up. :D

Thanks man...I like to think I know a good bit about wrestling but the whole "driver or bomb" thing always got me confused

Actually, the spinout back drop to sitout powerbomb is called the Blue Thunder Driver.
bluebomberx 2 years ago
I can't believe I forgot about that. Thanks. :X
guitar8890 2 years ago
Not to mention the Michinoku Driver II
KingAndy1992 2 years ago
Michinoku Driver isn't a Powerbomb. It's a sitout bodyslam.
guitar8890 2 years ago
Still not a driver.
KingAndy1992 2 years ago
Actually, technically, it's a Scoop Slam Piledriver.
TheSuicidalDragon 2 years ago
But there's no head/neck drop.
KingAndy1992 2 years ago
When Taka first used the move, there was. The move gradually ended up as more of a flat back bump.
