That was in the first game as well, if you went into an igloo, it would somtimes give you this item called a dummy, it was used by nintendo to see if items worked when they were close to finish making the game, it does absolutley nothing. It is worthless, and nothing can be done with it.

@magicturtlerock Your "hacker" friend is wrong. This is not a seed. This is an item programed into the game to test the inventory. They used the Apple as a placeholder model. It was just used in debug, and was never meant to be seen. It does nothing, but take up a space. I still have this save file to this day, and nothing has happened. Also, seeds don't destroy your town. They put things like houses in your town that take up space and can't be picked up. Now please stop spreading rumors.

It didn't appear as an apple because your native fruit is an apple; it's just the item. If it did that, it would probably need to recall the data from an actual apple, and in doing that, it would probably need to find it through it's hex value. The hex value for a fruit, as well as any item (Except DLC) doesn't change from game to game; town to town, etc. Sorry I answered late. You probably have all the answers you wanted by now xD

Yeah it means Dummy. Nintendo probably used at as a Test Beta item when they were creating the game which is probably why they didn't bother to translate it. They used it in the other Animal Crossing's also. I'm guessing they probably use it in the production of every game to make sure the item system is working properly.
