I'd love to know how you thought of the series as a whole. I can't say I felt it was as good as season one or two, but the midseries episodes (4 through to 8) were pretty nice. I loved Gwen/Jack's scenes in that car together, that was so sort of, Russell T. Davies style, brilliantly thought of and crafted - the bit where Gwen confesses how much better than everyone she feels. Vera's death, also, was just shocking. Far better done than Ianto's.
Now I've seen it all, I have come to the conlusion that on the whole, I didn't like it. If they'd managed to move it to America and still tell a decent story I wouldn't have minded, but they didn't. It suffered from poor pacing, lack of drive and any sort of closure. They killed off the only new character I connected with and completely ruined aspects of Jack's character with Rex becoming immortal, and on top of that REX BEING IMMORTAL MAKES NO SENSE.
@mushroomshrub Exactly. Jack's immortality has absolutely NOTHING to do with his blood. As far as I can tell, his immortality is linked to the heart of theTARDIS, and is therefore, not biological whatsoever. Well done, American writers who have obviously never watched Torchwood or Doctor Who.
Also, apparently the new writers have confused Jack's omnisexuality with being a gay manwhore. The point of Jack's relationships, sexual or otherwise, is that they all have substance, unlike those in MD.
I LOVED Torchwood: Escape to LA, my favorite actor of ALL time was in it! C. Thomas Howell!(Tommy<3) Hes gonna be 45 in December, but when he was younger, he was HOT! Hes been in 106 movies so far and has been acting since he was 11 in 1977, i know EVERYTHING about him! I cried when he got shot by that dude, it was REALLY sad :( Tommys AWESOME though (and he was crowned the best celeb magican) hes cool, and a REALLY good actor! search him up---Im OBSESSED with him, hes my fave <3
I think this is the first time someone's been able to explain how I feel about Torchwood: Miracle Day. I've not been able to quite put my finger on what it was that was bugging me. It's a great show, really well developed characters and plot-lines and a unique and brilliant idea but it just doesn't feel like Torchwood.
The last two episodes 8+9 have felt more like Torchwood, but also perhaps Gwen, who I liked in old Torchwood, seems totally out of place in this one and a little annoying.
It's interesting show I love the idea but man they really made use of the no rating setting cuz wow some of the "deaths" were just down right creapy. I do however miss the aliens cuz right now they're now getting Torchwood's purpose instead of some down to earth unit
I think it's an amazing premise, but like you said, it's just not Torchwood. I'm not sure how the Starz and BBC cuts differ, but even in BBC one which I'm following, designed for an audience who know Torchwood, there is simply NOT ENOUGH JACK. I think he got 2 scenes in episode 6 and I don't like it. I think I knew that it wasn't gonna click with me the moment I saw that he'd lost his classic revolver. :(
I'm hoping they go back to the uk without any of the new characters and try to rebuild torchwood 3, it would be interesting to see something to do with torchwood 2 as well, a Scottish season wouldn't be bad (as long as it's Scottish people doing the acting because I don't think I've seen anyone pull off a convincing accent :P)
I also heard that James marsters would like to come back to the show which would be interesting :)
i can say i felt a bit like it wasnt really torchwood at the start it didnt feel exactly like torchwood but it has been feeling more and more like it every week. i do wish theyd reference the old show more but i also feel that thats not really davies style he did the same in the first season of the new doctor who too. personally i think american shows are just as good as British ones theyre just different. what does bug me is the 1 story thing its kind of annoying.
I was really dissapointed after watching this, and haven't gone past the first episode. I mean, you're right, it isn't Torchwood anymore. It has nothing of the CSI-meets-aliens thing that I loved about it before. It's got edge, sure, but not Torchwood edge.
I agree with you, on everything here. But one of the things i miss is the unpredictability and, dare I say, "Reality" of it. I have only watched two episodes, and it seems that it is just what I thought it would be. Which is good enough, but it lacks the oomph and the awesome that is usually in Torchwood, and Doctor Who for that matter. What made Children of earth really great was, to me, that it tried (and succeeded) to show the different minds and reactions of human beings, both good and bad.
I totally agree with everything you mentioned in this video! I am a massive fan of Doctor Who and Torchwood and really like the idea that they are big and British. This new 'Torchwood' lacks the Britishness and has a lot of cliche American aspects to it that I believe are strangling the series if you get my meaning. Finally, I miss single episode Torchwood :(
I don't think I like Esther because her only real purpose seems to be to explain things every once in a while for no real reason (petrol is gas! crisps are chips!) and to be occasionally emotional. And to use computers a lot. She really has no other storyline like everybody else does, except for dealing with her sister that ONE time.
I agree. It doesn't feel like Torchwood to me. I had to look up the guy's name, but it is Rex, and I don't really like him. I can appreciate that it's a drama and they've got different things going on, and that this situation is dangerous, but the whole Oswald thing makes me very uncomfortable. Perhaps that's what it's supposed to do, but IDK...old Torchwood never made me uncomfortable. I want more aliens and less FBI stuff.
Completely agree with you! It doesn't feel like Torchwood, it's like Captain Jack and Gwen are just guest staring in an american cop drama or something! But it is great :) but it's not Torchwood.....
hmm i stumbled across something interesting......"The Lord told me, "Daughter, in those days, death will flee; Daughter, in those days the Holy Spirit will no longer be on Earth." (Revelations 9:6) There were accidents but I didn't see a single dead person: all of them were alive, although injured."
it feels so different to the previous series and i miss tosh, ianto and especially owen so much. but i agree, it is lovely to have captain jack around in whatever he is doing...
I agree with the comment below that it feels more like COE than the full-length seasons, but I think that's mostly due to it having an overarching storyline.
Anyway, I'm with you. I'm not sold on it, I'm not convinced it's Torchwood, but I'll watch it as long as it's on because I love the (British) characters.
i don't really agree. i think it feels more like COE than the first 2 seasons of torchwood, but i think that's a good thing for it to succeed with an american audience. i also think that jack and gwen's characters are pretty much the same, and you get some of the welsh flavor because there were complete episodes in wales (and they will return).
I don't really agree with this. I think it's good that a show can evolve and change to the degree Torchwood has. Aslo, I do like the new Torchwood team. Jack and Rex play well off each other as two competing alpha males, for example. My only problem with the new series is that it feels too slow. It's like they've panned a five episode story out to ten episodes.
i miss tosh. Didnt like yantos character, he was just there to promote russel T`s sexual views.
The show is now a mutated hybrid. It might work, but atmo it feels clunky. rex`s char seems a bit of a cliche and the blonde lass seems bit bland. That female doctor is such a stick insect i cant take her serious.....shouldnt she snap in 2 when she tries to walk? the oswald char is well acted imo, pulls some great facial expressions...he probably wont last beyond this series tho?
I'm in total agreement. I grew to love the old torchwood. But this... This doesn't even feel like it's the same show. It feels like an american show. They've simply transplanted a few characters. I mean, sure, it's good for what it is. But it's not my torchwood. There haven't even been any aliens yet! Also, they've changed from one - two episode stories, to a full season ark. So, yes. While I like it(kinda) I'm only watching for Gwen & Jack.
Why is everyone bad mouthing new torchwood? change is a good thing and if it remained the same people would tire of it. it is different but im really enjoying it so far
I feel similar about Torchwood. I like it but it's not Torchwood and I think it's too American, not that I have a problem with American shows. It is also annoying me slightly that it is getting shown in America before Britain, but I think that's just me being silly.
I don't really like Miracle Day at all so far. It's not Torchwood at all, but something else. And it's so slow, I'm having a hard time even watching it. It's so sad, because I've always enjoyed Torchwood, and I LOVE Captain Jack, but for this season, that's not really enough for me to keep watching.
I can't really comment on the newer episodes since I haven't watched them. I don't even think I can bring myself to watch them after hearing about all the things that have changed. The only thing keeping me even mildly interested in the newer episodes is Jack and Gwen.
I agree with you on this, I am enjoying the Miracle Day, but it is really nothing like the old Torchwood. For example, its very much one story arc, like a drama, so to miss one show throws you off, and also (to quote my brother) where are all the aliens? They have an element of them but its so much more a human story, even more so than Children of Earth (at least we saw the 456). And it is rather American... but I guess that's where the money is.
i dont get why jack keeps saying he doesnt really know why he lives forever, it was the TARDIS energy so wtf! Did it ever occur to him to try and ask the doctor what is going on, since the whole world was changed like he was and he was changed because of hte TARDIS energy... also, couldnt it just be the exploded TARDIS in doctor who...?? all that energy couldve slipped before the world was reset? haha idk
I know what you mean about taking the characters and putting them in a new show, it's just not Torchwood... The story is good but it feels a bit like Flash Forward and very American. Not that that is a bad thing but it feels a bit odd. I agree so much.
To me, new Torchwood compared to old Torchwood feels like Joey compared to Friends. Still a good, enjoyable show, but nowhere near the same, it feels a bit heartless and soulless. Still fun and exciting, but without a soul.
Also, I'm a UK viewer so the 5 day delay really ticks me off...
I think part of why it feels so different is because so far all we've gotten is a conspiricy, we don't have the actual Torchwood/alien/etc. part quite yet. But, of course, I do have to agree that it does have a very different feel that I miss from series 1 and 2 and partially 3...
so far its crap. i don't like the characters, i don't like the story line, there is very little progression each episode. what i loved about torchwood was it was so individual it wasn't similar to any other programme and now its just another american drama set in office blocks and hospitals. it is getting very repetitive each episode, its boring.
@elphabaforever I agree about the lack of progression in each week. I loved the seasons where there was a new story every week (pretty much) and even S3 worked a long story because there was the next bit each day and each ep still had a lot of plot. I think it's the American style of show though to give barely anything away in an episode.
I think that American flavour is on purpose though, thats what RTD always wanted for torchwood, he's kind of in love with the american style of show making and wanted to emulate it.
I can't believe Doctor Who comes back this month! =D It'll make ignoring school easier. Either way, new Torchwood just seems like a basic American crime show now . Do not like.
I never really liked Gwen all that much before but given she's the only real Welshy-Torchwoody anchor at the moment I'm growing to appreciate her more. :v
It's not like the old Torchwood at all. I still like it. They'd killed so many people off that it couldn't' be Torchwood anymore and I'm glad they made a new show rather than attempting to salvage what was left. I'm looking forward to watching more of it.
I really like Torchwood Miracle Day, but I totally agree. It doesn't really feel like Torchwood yet. I think it is already getting Torchwood-i-er with each episode, so there is hope!! I just think we need aliens. I just want to see the damn aliens! Otherwise it just is a world-wide crime drama, which still reminds me of Flash forward...
Honestly, I love the direction Torchwood is going. I feel like one complex story is more interesting than a bunch of tiny ones. Sure, they've lost a bit of their Torchwoodness because they're out of the country and not in their beloved headquarters, plus they've gone American, but Captain Jack is still the same and so is Gwen, so I still approve.
i think they've kept the same feel as laid out by children of earth. and rex is a dick... just saying... but in a good way. i think the story line is really gripping and it feels like torchwood to some degree and russell t is doing a good job blending the american and welsh culture.
Yeah its been a bit rubbish for me. Mainly I feel because they've failed to make Miracle Day into the amazing story it could have been.
I wish Torchwood were taken in as experts and not as assasination targets - as the entire spy side to things is just poor cliches and fails in comparison to other US thrillers.
Overall - were only coming to ep 5 and am completely bored.
Its just no CoE which I hoped it would be and in fact its not got what made the first 2 series good - its kinda...lost :(
i really don't like it which surprised me. I didn't like the first two seasons that much, but I loved Children of Earth so I was excited that they were keeping with the one big story, but they took all of the humor and character out of it. COE was this huge event, yet instead of dealing with the characters' issues that sprung from that, they are putting 100% focus on this new big plot and wiping away everything that came before. And the new plot isn't all that great. eh
lol I had to laugh about the new guy thing. Anyone I ask can't remember who he is even though he'd supposed to be huge. I'm hoping though that maybe Owen is behind it all, because Jack brought him back, but he could still suffer and not die. We never actually saw him die the second time... lol I didn't even like him first time round, but obviously Tosh and Ianto can't come back...
Well said, I agree with what most of it. I miss the Britishness and it doesn't feel like old Torchwood, but I like it as a different entity. I love the concept and think its really exciting and interesting to explore what would happen to the world. I don't really like Esther or Rex(pole man). I do however really like the doctor lady even though i cant remember what her name is at the moment.
Torchwood: Miracle Day...... has potential. It just isn't as good as Children of Earth. Definitely. Bill Pullman's character, next to Jilly Kitzinger, is the most interesting. They're just not taking him anywhere.
I learned about the new season the day after the first episode aired, so it wasn't built up in my mind as "torchwood" it was more just i had a show i previously loved and thought was canceled being thrown back at me. Having accepted the end of old torchwood, I have treated this season as an independent show with a shaired title , and I really like it.
@TheSarcasticBunny Ianto was the most inconsistant, boring character, one moment in love with this Cyberlady, the next moment having an office crush with Jack, the next moment having Jack be his ONE TRUE LOVE. He's worse than Esther. :/
I agree it's too Americanized. I miss the original layout of the show where there was a new story every episode. I'm not into the whole one story over the entire season. I'm noticing that as a trend that's starting. I don't like it. I also don't like how it's severed all connection to Doctor Who. I know most people in the US don't even know what Doctor Who is, but it seems wrong that a spin-off should sever itself completely from the original. Thoughts?
Rex (the guys who's name you couldn't remember) is comedy gold. I'm enjoy this, it has a lot of padding but.. I guess I'm just such a fan of RTD's trademark bizarre, ambitious, uneven and totally unique writing. .. and I never really liked old Torchwood THAT much till Children of Earth, found the first series pretty horrible.
I see Torchwood as having two phases S1-2 and 3-4. Miracle Day seems an obvious extension to the kind of shift in tone that took place between S2 and COE. I've never been a HUGE fan but I can appreciate them both. It's just nothing about the show ever really impressed me. Sure it's fun and on occasion thought provoking but I never really invested in the characters beyond Captain Jack.
Hello, I make Fan Made Trailers for Doctor who and Torchwood. Please support me to make further trailers and take 15 seconds to check out my channel.
I never watched the first two series, they never interested me much and they got very mixed reviews so I haven't bothered to go back yet. But I did watch Children of Earth and thought it was one of the best dramas I have seen in a long while.
But this, It's ok I guess, but strange. I find it completely unengaging. Not necessarily bad, although some bits are pretty bad, but... I really wouldn't mind if I missed the next one and wouldn't rush to catch up with it.
I've been watching Torchwood since the day it started and I even though I love the old series I also like this a lot. I don't feel it's so radically different that I want to switch off. I understand that people might want to feel a sense of the old with the setting and the characters but I sometimes didn't like aspects of the old Torchwood (It seemed quite confused about it's identity at first although I feel it improved a lot during series 2). Guess it's all down to personal taste in the end.
@PeaceMilly04 I've been out of touch! My living room is blocked off so I can't get to the TV and I spend no time on BBC America's channel or site. This is the worst news for me. I love Torchwood, now I'm finding out it started again and I haven't been able to see any of the episodes after the second-to-last episode of Season 2 because my mom won't let me onto Netflix..
I love Jack! So happy for him to be here :P I love the show if I forget about how it used to be. It's not a patch on Cardiff Torchwood and I really hope the next few episodes feel more like torchwood :/
I don't really get what esters character is meant to be about, she's supposed to be a trained CIA agent but deliberately goes to her sisters house where she knows they'll be waiting for her (and she actually says that she knows they'll be waiting for her in the previous ep) and then proceeds to act all surprised when she's followed.
My thoughts while I was watching this: They are not "herking back" sweet I can watch it with out watching the rest of the old stuff I missed.
PS: I haven't even seen it yet I know what you mean. American productions are way differen't from british ones. Though they do seem a tad more familar to me....
I'm really enjoying it, and I think the Torchwood flavour is there, but only sometimes... if that makes sense. I agree completely about Esther; I think it's the actress for me, she just seems so wooden, and has the same voice for EVERY emotion. Rex, though (the guy whose name you couldn't remember :P) I really like. I think that he seems really dogged and really determined, even though he's in such pain most of the time, and I think it's a really interesting character idea, though slightly crude
I totally agree!! It doesn't feel like Torchwood. I miss the Hub! Maybe it's not even the Hub that I miss, but the setting being in Cardiff. Taking them to America takes so much from the show. I think the reason why this doesn't feel like Torchwood is because there haven't been any aliens! Every week we had aliens and alien technology, but now it seems like they aren't even fighting aliens. Idk, that's how I've felt about the whole thing, but I still enjoy it...just not as Torchwood
Well, basically I disagree entirely. #goodcomment I think that the Torchwoody flavour is still very much there - and there's a lovely comic dynamic between Rex's professionalism and Jack and Gwen#s laid back, almost Scooby Doo approach. I am very into Esther, although, yeah, her character isn't developed enough, so she's still at the stage of just "plot device with a mad sister". Oswald Danes is fascinating, and I love the way the plot is developing. It's a different show but it's the same show.
I agree completely! It feels to me like they've tried to mix torchwood with csi or something.. It's strange, it also kind of irritates me how little Reece is in it, I mean really, you only have three characters left from the originals but you don't use one of them? I don't know, I probably only think that because he is my favourite.
Yes yes yes I totally agree with everything you said. Like, it's not a BAD show, but it's definitely not TORCHWOOD.
I'm very frustrated with the very american feel of it all, and it also feel very different becasue of the one extended storyline thing, instead of the way series 1 and 2 were.
Also, the only things taken from torchwood are Jack and Gwen, except Jack can't even live forever anymore, so that's a whole other plot thing that they flipped over.
I agree. It doesn't feel like Torchwood but that doesn't mean I don't like the show. I like to story lines, but I'm not in love with them. Basically... Captain Jack is keeping me watching. I hope that changes soon because I WANT to love the show.
any who.... love torchwood.... love it, love it, love it...... most due to my love affair with Jack ^_^
I love the early seasons... when they were proper season, had that who DR who, but darker.....Love the newer format, but in a different way, it's nice to see a story explored more deeper..... the Americanizing does bug me a bit, but still loving the series..... my favorite bits so far are Jack and Gwen moments...and the reminiscing Gwen does on life in torchwood.
I really, really dislike Torchwood. I was really interested for the first two seasons when they were exploring the original characters but when they started making it just one single story arc and not interwoven plots it really lost what Torchwood was about.
I like Torchwood but I miss Ianto and Owen. Was never a big fan of Tosh. Though I was thinking that they should have brought Mickey and Martha in even though they're doing their own thing it would have made sense as Martha is medical. But I'm not a writer so meh.
I'd love to know how you thought of the series as a whole. I can't say I felt it was as good as season one or two, but the midseries episodes (4 through to 8) were pretty nice. In the last ep when Jack rethinks of his past with yet another guy...
He then tells Gwen that he doesnt want to die, really?
We all accept we will die someday, but Jack who has live for almost 1000 years, is still afraid of death? Thats kinda sad

i miss tosh.

@TheWomblemaster i loved ianto! even ifhe does have a silly speling. it works, irts still interesting. that female doctor? why is she a stck insect?
oswald has to go, people want him dead it will happen after miracle day has finished

Why is everyone bad mouthing new torchwood? change is a good thing and if it remained the same people would tire of it. it is different but im really enjoying it so far
jamesfintona123 7 months ago
I feel similar about Torchwood. I like it but it's not Torchwood and I think it's too American, not that I have a problem with American shows. It is also annoying me slightly that it is getting shown in America before Britain, but I think that's just me being silly.

I don't really like Miracle Day at all so far. It's not Torchwood at all, but something else. And it's so slow, I'm having a hard time even watching it. It's so sad, because I've always enjoyed Torchwood, and I LOVE Captain Jack, but for this season, that's not really enough for me to keep watching.

@NerdyDaffy Not canon, as far as I'm concerned. Seasons 1-3 blew me away, but long rant short, the original Torchwood Five needs to come back NOW.
prue6967 1 day ago
I can't really comment on the newer episodes since I haven't watched them. I don't even think I can bring myself to watch them after hearing about all the things that have changed. The only thing keeping me even mildly interested in the newer episodes is Jack and Gwen.
notyouraveragething 7 months ago
I agree with you on this, I am enjoying the Miracle Day, but it is really nothing like the old Torchwood. For example, its very much one story arc, like a drama, so to miss one show throws you off, and also (to quote my brother) where are all the aliens? They have an element of them but its so much more a human story, even more so than Children of Earth (at least we saw the 456). And it is rather American... but I guess that's where the money is.

i dont get why jack keeps saying he doesnt really know why he lives forever, it was the TARDIS energy so wtf! Did it ever occur to him to try and ask the doctor what is going on, since the whole world was changed like he was and he was changed because of hte TARDIS energy... also, couldnt it just be the exploded TARDIS in doctor who...?? all that energy couldve slipped before the world was reset? haha idk

Esther is irritating. It's her fault all that crazy stuff that happened last night.
puglish 7 months ago
I know what you mean about taking the characters and putting them in a new show, it's just not Torchwood... The story is good but it feels a bit like Flash Forward and very American. Not that that is a bad thing but it feels a bit odd. I agree so much.
itiselizabeth 7 months ago
To me, new Torchwood compared to old Torchwood feels like Joey compared to Friends. Still a good, enjoyable show, but nowhere near the same, it feels a bit heartless and soulless. Still fun and exciting, but without a soul.
Also, I'm a UK viewer so the 5 day delay really ticks me off...
cubedreamsinwords 7 months ago 26
@cubedreamsinwords joey to friends is the best description I've heard of the new torchwood.
mfretz026 7 months ago
I think part of why it feels so different is because so far all we've gotten is a conspiricy, we don't have the actual Torchwood/alien/etc. part quite yet. But, of course, I do have to agree that it does have a very different feel that I miss from series 1 and 2 and partially 3...
GeneralOwl 7 months ago
so far its crap. i don't like the characters, i don't like the story line, there is very little progression each episode. what i loved about torchwood was it was so individual it wasn't similar to any other programme and now its just another american drama set in office blocks and hospitals. it is getting very repetitive each episode, its boring.
elphabaforever 7 months ago
@elphabaforever I agree about the lack of progression in each week. I loved the seasons where there was a new story every week (pretty much) and even S3 worked a long story because there was the next bit each day and each ep still had a lot of plot. I think it's the American style of show though to give barely anything away in an episode.
itiselizabeth 7 months ago
I think that American flavour is on purpose though, thats what RTD always wanted for torchwood, he's kind of in love with the american style of show making and wanted to emulate it.
harpdevil 7 months ago
I can't believe Doctor Who comes back this month! =D It'll make ignoring school easier. Either way, new Torchwood just seems like a basic American crime show now . Do not like.

25butterbeers 7 months ago 2
It feels like a typical crime drama. It doesn't feel anything like Torchwood. It's just a crime drama with Jack and Gwen and the occasional Rhys.
I can't remember his name either, and honestly if it wasn't for Esther sharing a name with...well, Esther...I doubt I'd remember her name.
I really miss old Torchwood.
siriusismyhero 7 months ago
Honestly, I love the direction Torchwood is going. I feel like one complex story is more interesting than a bunch of tiny ones. Sure, they've lost a bit of their Torchwoodness because they're out of the country and not in their beloved headquarters, plus they've gone American, but Captain Jack is still the same and so is Gwen, so I still approve.
TheMikESocks 7 months ago 2
i think they've kept the same feel as laid out by children of earth. and rex is a dick... just saying... but in a good way. i think the story line is really gripping and it feels like torchwood to some degree and russell t is doing a good job blending the american and welsh culture.

Its just no CoE which I hoped it would be and in fact its not got what made the first 2 series good - its kinda...lost :(
Densoid 7 months ago
i really don't like it which surprised me. And the new plot isn't all that great. eh
buffymovies 7 months ago
lol I had to laugh about the new guy thing.
IrememberDelirium 7 months ago
Well said, I agree with what most of it. I miss the Britishness and it doesn't feel like old Torchwood, but I like it as a different entity. I love the concept and think its really exciting and interesting to explore what would happen to the world. I don't really like Esther or Rex(pole man). I do however really like the doctor lady even though i cant remember what her name is at the moment.
Rachelw 7 months ago
I totally agree about the characters. I adore Jack, which is why I started watching, and Gwen is awesome, too!
Also, I'm totally addicted because it's basically the only tv I've been watching and it's the next best thing, while waiting for Doctor Who. :)

Thoughts?
iggle07 7 months ago
Rex (the guys who's name you couldn't remember) is comedy gold. I'm enjoy this, it has a lot of padding but.. I guess I'm just such a fan of RTD's trademark bizarre, ambitious, uneven and totally unique writing. .. and I never really liked old Torchwood THAT much till Children of Earth, found the first series pretty horrible.
HangOnToYourEgo 7 months ago
I see Torchwood as having two phases S1-2 and 3-4. Miracle Day seems an obvious extension to the kind of shift in tone that took place between S2 and COE. I've never been a HUGE fan but I can appreciate them both. It's just nothing about the show ever really impressed me. Sure it's fun and on occasion thought provoking but I never really invested in the characters beyond Captain Jack.

I'll probably stick with it though
Coffeeaddict101 7 months ago
I've been watching Torchwood since the day it started and I even though I love the old series I also like this a lot. I don't feel it's so radically different that I want to switch off. I understand that people might want to feel a sense of the old with the setting and the characters but I sometimes didn't like aspects of the old Torchwood (It seemed quite confused about it's identity at first although I feel it improved a lot during series 2). Guess it's all down to personal taste in the end.

I love Jack! So happy for him to be here :P I love the show if I forget about how it used to be. It's not a patch on Cardiff Torchwood and I really hope the next few episodes feel more like torchwood :/
PeaceMilly04 7 months ago
I don't really get what esters character is meant to be about, she's supposed to be a trained CIA agent but deliberately goes to her sisters house where she knows they'll be waiting for her (and she actually says that she knows they'll be waiting for her in the previous ep) and then proceeds to act all surprised when she's followed.
It just makes no sense.

My thoughts while I was watching this: They are not "herking back" sweet I can watch it with out watching the rest of the old stuff I missed.

I think that he seems really dogged and really determined, even though he's in such pain most of the time, and I think it's a really interesting character idea, though slightly crude
bakar12345 7 months ago
I totally agree!! It doesn't feel like Torchwood. I miss the Hub! Maybe it's not even the Hub that I miss, but the setting being in Cardiff. Taking them to America takes so much from the show. I think the reason why this doesn't feel like Torchwood is because there haven't been any aliens! Every week we had aliens and alien technology, but now it seems like they aren't even fighting aliens. Idk, that's how I've felt about the whole thing, but I still enjoy it...just not as Torchwood
coollikeaninja 7 months ago
Well, basically I disagree entirely. #goodcomment I think that the Torchwoody flavour is still very much there - and there's a lovely comic dynamic between Rex's professionalism and Jack and Gwen#s laid back, almost Scooby Doo approach. I am very into Esther, although, yeah, her character isn't developed enough, so she's still at the stage of just "plot device with a mad sister". Oswald Danes is fascinating, and I love the way the plot is developing. It's a different show but it's the same show.

Same... doesn't feel like torchwood at all. And I don't like it much. Although I'll continue watching it, just for Jack and Gwen.

i am so annoyed at what's happened to this show.
i dont mind it being in america, but i do mind the old writing style + plot points being thrown out of the window.
and i dont feel a connection to the characters atall, not even Jack + Gwen... their scipts + acting have been really impacted by this americanisation
gix10000 7 months ago
I agree completely! It feels to me like they've tried to mix torchwood with csi or something.. It's strange, it also kind of irritates me how little Reece is in it, I mean really, you only have three characters left from the originals but you don't use one of them? I don't know, I probably only think that because he is my favourite.

This was the first time that I've heard about Torchwood.
MrJrbenner 7 months ago
Yes yes yes I totally agree with everything you said. Like, it's not a BAD show, but it's definitely not TORCHWOOD.
I'm very frustrated with the very american feel of it all, and it also feel very different becasue of the one extended storyline thing, instead of the way series 1 and 2 were.
Also, the only things taken from torchwood are Jack and Gwen, except Jack can't even live forever anymore, so that's a whole other plot thing that they flipped over.
Heh. I dunno. It's good, I guess.
kira902k 7 months ago
