Buffalo is some of the best eating there is. Better than beef and healthier than chicken. Good hunt and a nice kill BTW. Lookng fwd to taking one with my Sharps as well.
I would love to go hunting for Bison on a ranch that size. My dad once took one down with just a 16 gauge shotgun, but that was in a pin. It made for some great eating including over 25 pounds which we turned into the best jerky I have ever had.
@Penland75 thats cool, i hate it when people kill an animal and not use the hide and dont eat the meat. why the hell did the animal die if you wouldnt use the meat? lol. good yall did
Thanks for a Great Film. Clean kill didn't seem to take long to bleed out. You scouted the Territory and made a Text Book Shot. Well done you get 5 Billy Dixons from me!
Who died and left BC9696 the king of YouTube hunter safety? Sorry I broke the "cardinal rule!" That is great that you have shot "a" 2000 lbs bison and know how your round performed. You may find it hard to believe but all rounds don't perform the same! First off we were on 26K acres no one else was there! We had been watching and following the herd all day long so we knew what was in the herd. Oh, guess what my round did not blow right through! Sorry Dad I could not be as great as you!
Nice bull and having successfully hunt buffalo before, i understand (although do not condone) the shooting of any animal under these conditions. The 1st rule of hunter safety requires to have a clear view of the foreground and background before firing. Shooting a bull with a 45-70 govt. on a hilltop is dangerous. That round went right through the animals lungs and where it went after that nobody knows. You sure got yourself a nice trophy.
To all the tree-hugger/vegetarians out there: people have always killed critters to eat. Just because you skin out and boil a 'live' carrot patting thyself on the back about how you are not evil you are still a 'killer' as you call it. Anti-hunters can piss off! God went fishing. What do you suppose He did with the fish, released them into the wild again?
VIPOMOVIP: I assume you can READ english even if you can not type it.
in a sharps! go for the black powder mate.....just like the old timers did....even better work up a load of 2f behind a paper patched soft lead bullet.......
Yea the herd sizes have to be maintained at a certain size due to habitat restrictions so they sell tags for however many need to be removed from the herd.
That looks like a lot of fun. Iowa and Nebraska are my two favorite states to hunt. Great shots of the wild open country and there's no eating like bison eating! By far my favorite meat.
Are you asking if he has a heart? There is absolutely NOTHING heartless or immoral about killing, people have been doing it fot hundreds of thousands of years. Just because most of the mangled modern society chooses not to do doesn't make it bad.
They were real spooky. We were on a 26,000 acre ranch so we spent most of the morning just trying to find them. Once we found them we spent all day trying to get in range. The herd would always run to the top of a hill where they could look down and see us coming. We followed them around all day with them always being one step ahead of us. We finally guessed correctly as to where they might go and got in the taller grass and just got lucky that they came over the hill right on top of us.
Nice Video....good music, good shooting, etc...I took a 1.5 year old cow in ND a few years ago with a 7mm rem mag...almost shot it twice, they are a truly a tough animal and brings back memories from the Old Plains...a hunt I am sure neither pf us will forget...
Where did you hit it, and what kind of round were you using? I'm surprised he even walked as far as he did. BTW, that's a nice piece, my Old Man has a .45-70 Calvary Carbine (Springfield 1873).
Nice i bet you had a good bison burger... maybe i guess

ya gotta figure the 45/70 is the baby of the big bores
it worked well on rebs and indians, but wasnt considered for harvest work
the metal was to soft and the pressures were way low
the 100's were used for this like sharps and quigley(now called) 120
