I saw him in the London palladium in 2002 with his sons, they'd formed a band appropriately called...the vees. it was part of the solid gold american rock and roll tour.
"This is what i call Real music. I am 13 this year but i love the oldies ranging from 60s to 90s! :) "
The 90's are Oldies. I'm 58 years old and feel like Rip Van Winkle. The 50's are Oldies. The 60's and 70's are contemporary. The 80's and 90's are the future. The 21st century, that's so far away it's like science fiction.
Bobby Vee is the perfect illustration of the difference between now and a half-century ago: sure, he was the Justin Bieber of his era, cutesy little sixteen-yr-old, but... Bob could SING!!! Go now in the Name of the Lord...and preach this message unto all lands.
You got to love the great vocals. Most all of the stars of this time could really sing. Once again, these are the songs my Mom taught me to dance to....
This is probably my favorite Bobby Vee song. It reminds of of a time long ago when I was young. Bobby was/is a talented singer and performer and had many hits. He fit into that period when Elvis went into the Army and the Beatles were yet to arrive, and even when the Beatles arrived, Bobby still had hits and survived on, to record songs such as "Red Rubber Ball".
Rick Sprinfield thought he had the sexiest lips. It looks like Bobby had him beat. He was pretty hot when he was young. I had almost forgotten about this song. My Mom and Dad always played music like this when I was little. I learned to appreciate it and truly wish that songs of today were a lot less vulgar. This is a song you could have a lot of fun dancing to. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I wish more people my age listened to this genre of music. Kids these days listen to rap and r&b. Which only talks about sex, drugs, and killing people. Oldies music is beautiful and innocent. This is a great song and Bobby Vee's vioce is phenomenal.
@TheSammyKaye I see your point, but I believe that it is only the mainstream music that talks about those things. I'm a teenager, and I love the oldies. I enjoy modern music as well, including Hip-Hop and R&B, but I feel that most of it (Hip-Hop) has taken a downturn for the worst in recent years, because it has been made into a corporate playground. Nonetheless, all of it isn't bad; you just have to know where to look. Lastly, a lot of pop sucks today as well, so I feel it's just the result of
@BlindFocus1 cultural decadence, more so than it is the genre of music. Yeah, pop culture in 1963 wasn't as crass and vulgar as it is today, but there were many music acts that weren't worth much time, just as today.
SO adorable, and nicely edited with those sweet close-up still shots of him. Big hair, perfect teeth, gorgeous. And the song too! I guess all the flashing tiny lights that go off when he sings the title words are to suggest thousands of eyes peeking? Interesting how he brings character to this when he is standing in ONE PLACE the whole time!
We went to a concert in Perth N.d. that Bobby Vee was performing it was also a dance. My buddy lost his hard contact lens on the dance floor We asked Bobbys band to stop for awhile so we could look for it and they did we didnt find it but thought it was nice thet did that They had a class act. The sixties rule.
Bobby Vee was one of THE premier hit makers of this golden era! I can't believe how nostalgic I get when listening to these great songs! Loved Bobby Vee!
Hey, I was born in Peru i 1978, but I totally love this song from Bobby Vee. Got his others songs as well in CD format. I think it would've been great to live in the USA during those days. Totally different to this day.
anita kelsey did a remake of this and it dominates bobby vee's version.. he's just too upbeat in a song about someone he thinks is cheating on him o_O
My absolute favorite jam!! Such a kick ass song!! Love the bit where he goes " And no, matter what i do" and then the chorus bit after that. Its brilliant. This is the type of music that will live on forever. Not like the crap on the radio stations now. And this is coming from a teenager. Completely agree with you haleyleey!
He was what you would/should call cute. I love the way he just stands there moving his elbows and hands about going through the routine of singing this song until its over. As much as I like this song by bobby there are others I enjoy even more; like charms, sharing you and baby face. Thankyou for posting this video and take good care of my baby cause I'm walking with my angel here in vancouver canada. lol
I was born in the late 40's and I am SO happy to hear you say that, Haleyleey. I wish I could pay Bobby to pay you a visit and sing his songs for you.
@haleyleey When this music was new, adults dismissed it as if it were nothing. But since it has stood the test of time, we can say for sure that this is true art and that the singer is a true artist.
This music has moved as many people as DaVinci and Beethoven did. In my opinion, it was the most important art of the 20th century....above Picasso, above everything.
I won two tickets in a twisting comp in Perth years ago.The prize was tickets to Bobby Vee at Pinochios. He was booed off stage because of Doug Parkinson (a second rate act and a fat wanker) I spoke to B.V after the concert for an hour or so, what a great bloke.
I have a funny story to demonstrate how music can be the glue for our memories. When this song was a hit, I was in my Aunt's car stopped at a red light. I opened a pack of baseball cards and said to my cousin, "Hey Peter look! Gil Hodges and Duke Snyder on the same card!" Now, every time I hear this song on an oldies station, I think to myself " Oh yeah, I remember, Gil Hodges and Duke Snyder were on the same baseball card"....lol
That's a good insight about music being a memory glue.
This song brings me back to when my brother was home for the holidays when I was 16. One night we were all in the car with my parents playing the oldies station, and my brother asked if I knew who the artist was.
My favorite Bobby Vee song. I loved everything he did. My daughter met him after an oldies concert when she was 9 and he gave her his autograph. He was a very gracious person and made over her like she was his own daughter. She still remember him.
Anything before the 80's was awesome, What I mean is that the new music can't live up to what they did in the 50's or 60's. Rock and Roll baby Rock and Roll
Bobby was the singer that replaced Buddy Holly the nite after Buddy was killed. I believe out of respect he didnt sing any of Buddys songs even though he knew them all. He is still singing and still sounds great. Donn
I'm sorry but, the classics are THE BEST. The songs now make you feel like you can never live up to them, but these just make you feel happy and cheerful inside! I love them! And i'm only 13 lol! But i got to say, these are just plainly the BEST. Bobby Vee is pretty much my favorite artist, and this song is one of my favorites!
