In 1957, founders of the Wham-O toy company Richard Knerr and Arthur "Spud" Melin reinvented the hula hoop. The idea came from an Australian visiting California who told Knerr and Melin about children twirling bamboo hoops around the waist in gym class.
Knerr and Melin were unable to patent their vastly profitable "re-invention." They were largely able, however, to protect their invention by trademarking "Hula hoop".
The next week, the WML production staff tried to fool the panel by bringing on as a contestant the other Whamo founder / inventor / business partner involved in the creation of the hula hoop. He bamboozled the panel that time.
I gotta say that John Daly gave this one away by making such a big deal about the sports question. The man's question was: "is it relative to the field of sports in any direction at all?' All he had to do was say 'yes' and the game would've gone on longer.
kinda looks like mr. daily is giving the pannel the finger at 1:32

you're right and i've seen other occasions he goes on too much and unnecessarily gives too much away. Basically i do think he's great though.
