Nadal is supposedly bad at grass, and Federer is bad at clay, and so those are the surfaces that they are going to play on, respectively. I guess that this is a fair match-up (although Nadal wins). Notice the drop shot at 2:40
The circumstances can change a lot: time between matches, state of fitness, tireness, mood, weather, even the crowd, can affect players. He LOST to Roddick at that exo & he won the Aus Open. That's all, two differnt scenarios.
I also play. And yes, sometimes a match is not of much benefit to you so you play it with that idea in mind. But WINING IS ALWAYS THE GOAL FOR A TRUE PROFFESIONAL. You may not get points, but you get another win to your record. Even if your record is major, you just don't give a game away. Is like a boxer loosing and arranged match!! It's just a NO-NO in sports. One match's different from another-even against the same opponent; you should know that! I don't think you play tennis at all!
Hi, I wonder how you got uploaded the video. I mean, when I want to upload a video, than it's a limited of 10 minutes. Your video is 32 minutes. How's that's possible???
Yeh i know that grass usually has bad bounces but the ball usually skids through the court and doesnt just die like that, this one was a bad job though they had to tear it up and redo it shortly before the tourney (The grass at wimbledon today is bs its like a green clay/hardcourt hybrid)
i totally agree...it doesn't seem like its skidding through the surface or something.. just like the normal bounce and it doesn't look lyk grass at all...
why don't you see what the two players thought of the surfaces, they said they were really good... and don't even begin to try to tell me that any pro dumps any match even if it is an exhibition - especially these two with the rivalry they have.
BTW, This's cla-grass court. The ball can not bounce as in a grass court, can it?? How can you even question that? The ball picks up clay when it lands on it then it lands on ghe grass side heavy with clay particles!! What're you talking about!!! This's a special setting two different surfaces played at the same time whereus all factors affecting each surface are taken and played- do you follow?
If you happen to notice Federer only wears his watch during exebition match. He doesn't wear it in a "real" match. They are purposely extend it to a three setter, and because it is played at Nadal's hometown, Fed has to let him win. I've done exibition where i had to purposely lose to my doubles partner because it was held at his place. They just tried to make it interesting for the crowds. Either way, it was nice to see the match, and thank you for posting it.
You are lying. I happen to play and not one ever has to loose purposely to anyone. Don't be such a poor looser. When you loose you loose, you pick yourself up and move on to the next battle. Yours is the attitude of the looser and the coward. Don't insult Federer who would never do such thing, shut up!
What made you say that I am lying? Have you ever played an exibition match? I am not being a poor loser, but just let me know if you ever seen Federer plays in a Grand Slam with his wristwatch on. I've played the tour and I have seen and have done it before that for some less important matches like an exo, you don't have to win. fed lost to Roddick before the Aus Open in an exo, and then killed him at the Open. what do you say to that?
cahmpy, regardless of any rubish you try to trough here. It is not profesional to give a game to anyone! Both players have the same interest in making "a point" here a "message". You can not speak for other people! Fed played like Nadal, maybe they didn't make a major effort because there were no point to be won. But their favorite surfaces & their ability to win on both was tested. You're not a proffesional like these two people.
Historically unique court. Thanks so much for posting such a long excerpt. Surprisingly, this was not televised in the States by ESPN or the Tennis Channel. Federer loses exhibitions as a good sport, to get rest, and to get his oppenents relaxed before he dominates them in tournaments. See Roddick, Andy. Looking forward to the french clay this year.
are you intentionally dense.if he intentionally wanted to lose this match, there would be a straight set win; he wouldn't need to extend the match. it is true that he played this for fun, but it doesn't mean he's not trying and is only there to wax his ego. those characteristics are of a selfish cocky individual, completely polar opposite of the who he displays during interviews and under other public events. wonderful logic by the way.
That was a really horrible job for the grass, apparently they had to tear it up and re do it shortly before the tournament, lots of bad bounces and stuff. they probably used a bad breed of grass too, its nothing like wat they got at wimbledon.

You just got a big adventage when standing on clay, the balls you hit come faster, the balls you gain come slower.
fun idea though

It was a friendly. They wanted to test the clay-grass theory. That's all. They are still going to play more of these matches; they enjoyed it.
