Nice! It looks like you used Naples Yellow for the underpainting.....right? Have you ever tried Raw Umber mixed with White for that? I see you used Bright Red on later layers. That works real well with fair skin colors. Ever tried Vanetion Red? It works well with less fair skin, though still good. Another thing I noticed is that you use student grade paints. Yes they are expensive, though as good as you are now, I would recommend getting better ones. At least something series 3 or above.
I love everything about this painting, You are truely a great artist. I love the hair. I struggle so much with painting hair, Please do a video showing how you do it so great. :)
I have this painting hanging on my bedroom wall. I fall asleep to it every night picking it apart. What then seem flawless now is filled with imperfections. Which in my opinion is how we become greater at what we do. I imagine I will do an other painting in this style again at some point to see if I can fine tune the application a bit. Thank you all for watching it 30,000+ times. ~A. DELIGHT
I've often heard of the Flemish instruments and Flemish culture. Sadly, I've never been about to visit Flem. I hear it's lovely there. Or is it Flemland? Phlegm?
hi amanda im just starting to learn oil painting..i want to ask if i realy need to spread a linseed oil every layer and it realy will take several day every layer to dry..?
Hi amanda :) You're video is awesome, thanks for sharing! I just learnt today about the flemish technique and i needed to confirm with more videos, thank you so much. For the second layer you depict on this vid, what specific colors refer to that layer in general? cool monochromes? Metallics? Black n White? cuz i've been focusing too much on acrylic, now i need to focus on oil in portraiture. Do u find it to be true that oils naturally enhance portraitures?Thank u again and gr8 choice in music:)
Think of the dead underlayer like the moon ( I didnt really show much of it here) , not black and white, but more like the moon with a blue glow. Here is a hint, use thin washes of paynes gey. I have another video on this technique where I show more of it. I also have a break down of it on my social network. Oil is so wonderful for portraits!!!! Good luck and have fun!!!!
Some parts have only a few layers, where as others have so many, I lost track. I feel as though you just keep adding till you feel its done. This painting was done over a three month period.
i wish i know oil painting too.... hehe!! it looks so complicated... atleast how many types of brushes would you need?? hehe!! and i also dunno those liquid stuff that you use.. hehe!
You are an asset to society for one who can create something beautiful from a mere speck of an idea. You have a very noble profession because you uplift the human spirit and bring it to a higher level of artistic expression. May your tribe increase.
wow, this is really nice. Can you post another video on flemish technique? This is amazing work. Your composition and the look in the babies eyes, it is just incredible. Very talented amanda.Good work!!!!
Oh wow! Amazing. I'm subbing to you :) I've never used oils in my life (acrylic mainly) but I've always wanted to..seems blending would be so much easier. This painting is excellent. Great job!
AHH I love this! The baby looks so real. I loved seeing your techniques =) I look forward to getting into portraits with my oils myself! Thanks Amanda
Looks like you can actually see you grow every portrait. This one is very nice. The vid makes me go "?" when looking at the colors but the photograph at the end shows them completely different. Never noticed it being that different before.
That was beautiful sweetie, she even reminds me abit of my own lil Neice .^_^.
I saw LOTS AND LOTS of babies this weekend, I went on a trip, I was at one point at a zoo, tons of lil ones there and on a train, one was sohhh cute, I played peekaboo around the seats w\ her for awhile, she couldnt stop giggling.. Her Mum was grateful cause all she had been doing was WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, lol
Beautiful as always Amanda. I liked the way you have a slight shadow of the purple colour reflected on the child's chin. Very skilfully executed!! Look forward to hearing from you, love Mary.
These things happen to me...last time I made her Harry Potter and said he was fat...this time she's going to fall down and beg for another picture...lol
Gorgeous doesn't seem to be a word that does this painting justice~even more gorgeous in person, the painting AND the 'baby'!! Thanks for sharing your gift with me and the WORLD!!

who many layers you use?
TheCokiejar 2 years ago
Depends on the area.
Some parts have only a few layers, where as others have so many, I lost track. I feel as though you just keep adding till you feel its done. This painting was done over a three month period.
AmandaDelight 2 years ago
This was about 20-30 layers in most places of the skin tone.

May I know what kind of brushes did you use to paint the hair? is it flat synthetic brushes? :/
DipzVideos 2 years ago
Yes, in this video I used all synthetic brushes for the hair and the skin. Thanks for asking.

maybe that brush was just for watercolor!! That was a very good brush... oh... the soft bristles it used to have.. huhuhu(T_T)
