Nice! It looks like you used Naples Yellow for the underpainting.....right? Have you ever tried Raw Umber mixed with White for that? I see you used Bright Red on later layers. That works real well with fair skin colors. Ever tried Vanetion Red? It works well with less fair skin, though still good. Another thing I noticed is that you use student grade paints. Yes they are expensive, though as good as you are now, I would recommend getting better ones. At least something series 3 or above.

I have this painting hanging on my bedroom wall. I fall asleep to it every night picking it apart. What then seem flawless now is filled with imperfections. Which in my opinion is how we become greater at what we do. I imagine I will do an other painting in this style again at some point to see if I can fine tune the application a bit. For the second layer you depict on this vid, what specific colors refer to that layer in general? cool monochromes? Metallics? Black n White? cuz i've been focusing too much on acrylic, now i need to focus on oil in portraiture. Do u find it to be true that oils naturally enhance portraitures?Thank u again and gr8 choice in music:)

Think of the dead underlayer like the moon ( I didnt really show much of it here) , not black and white, but more like the moon with a blue glow. Here is a hint, use thin washes of paynes gey. I have another video on this technique where I show more of it. I also have a break down of it on my social network. Oil is so wonderful for portraits!!!! Good luck and have fun!!!!

who many layers you use?

Depends on the area.

Some parts have only a few layers, where as others have so many, I lost track. I feel as though you just keep adding till you feel its done. This painting was done over a three month period.

This was about 20-30 layers in most places of the skin tone.

i tried it before... and it ruined my brush...

maybe that brush was just for watercolor!! That was a very good brush... oh... the soft bristles it used to have.. huhuhu(T_T)

Looks like you can actually see you grow every portrait. This one is very nice. The vid makes me go "?" when looking at the colors but the photograph at the end shows them completely different. Never noticed it being that different before.

I saw LOTS AND LOTS of babies this weekend, I went on a trip, I was at one point at a zoo, tons of lil ones there and on a train, one was sohhh cute, I played peekaboo around the seats w\ her for awhile, she couldnt stop giggling..
