I've been listening to him quite a bit tonight. He's good. He's no Stevie Ray. But he's really good, which is more than can be said of that metro-sexual John Mayer.
@okbookguy He is no SRV cause his own style is nothing near SRV, he is influenced and he does use a lot of licks when he wants to play like SRV, but they are 2 different styles. Bonamassa is tremendously good, huge talent men, probably one of the best out there nowadays.
@okbookguy dont be turned off by the kind of music john mayer plays. i agree with you that i hate pop and everything that has to do with it but dont knock john mayer's guitar skills. hes very talented
In all honesty, Jimmy Page's guitar playing was very sloppy, however that is one of the things that everyone loves about him. It's actually one of his biggest trademarks of his playing. He might not have had perfect technique, but he obviously didn't need it either, to become such a legendary figure among us infinitely less popular guitarists.
@waynewallace08 Well that's the thing, man. Rock n' Roll ain't perfect. It's not supposed to be! When rock n' roll came about, it basically took the rest of history's music and put a boot up its ass, and gave it the finger. Anyway, Joe is the shit. I envy his ability, and that ability to make notes flow into each other so perfectly. Like none other. But we also gotta remember, no two guitar players are the same.
@ericjohnsonroxx Are you serious? Joe is really not exactly that great of a musician compared to Page. Im sorry. but its true. Im not saying joes bad but page is so much better.
@ericjohnsonroxx Shut the fuck up. He created musical art out of such a simple tone. If you could play anywhere near as well as he did, then you might be able to criticize him.
these guys has enourmous energy for our days. Play guitar from 7. Now I'm 50. He is good, really. My the best opening for 2010! Great tone, energy, positive mood, sweet old analog days. THANKS!!!!!
This man has become my new guitar hero, and now all I want to do is get a les paul, and I already had the look down to begin with. One of my friends came up to me the other day and was like..."You look like Joe Bonamassa today." I didn't know who the hell he was, but apparently he's some type of monster?lol. If any of you have a les paul but want a custom aged strat, send me a comment.
omg !! hehehe i think we are clones , because i have the same problem , i have a 54 roadworn stratocaster , and of course i love her , but i want a les paul , my ALL time guitar god nr 1 is jimmy page , and also a joe bonamassa dont change it , he`s great , really i like him very much , especially his awesome "tea for one" performance , and his style ist definetley cool , but page ist the boss .
Yeah, all the gear and no idea. When a guitar wizard like Joe takes the stage, we should bask in the Blues Rock glory - whether he's playing a '59 les paul or some piece of crap. The man just pulls it off. Skill.
@tremold2043 One of the big reasons for moving to Gibson is that Fender would not offer a signature model like they had just done for John Mayer at the time. Gibson were happy to make a signature model and still allow Joe to use other brands such as Musicman etc. Think Fender should have made them both one, JB's would have sold just as well if not better. Both deserving but JB's profile been built from playing rather than media hype and failed high profile relationships!
A gold top has no flame in its top....typically the tops chosen for the gold top model are clear straight grained Maple with little to no flame since the gold finish is not transparent at all.
Great performance by Joe--I was there, so I know! Too bad the audio quality isn't better, 'cuz he had that gorgeous LP with the Bigsby SMOKIN'! Nice job on the video portion, though....
He reminds me of nicholas Cage in this

stop all the comparing and enjoy what he does, he puts on the best live shows I've seen in years, he needs to be seen not just heard on a cd.

From Joe's forum:
"That was my 58 historic that now has black plastic and a bigsby.."
prebon 2 years ago
It's an R8 Les Paul from before they switched over to plain tops... Joe said so on his forum.

Lol its quite funny most of the comments are about the guitar he's holding rather than the Music itself... :P.

a '69 Les Paul I think....
and I love the "radar love" bass line
ian916fun 2 years ago
I think that is his own signature model LP with a Bigsby. Or at least it looks like it cause the tone and volume knobs are different colors.
tonygrimsley 2 years ago
It's not, his signature is a goldtop this has a flamed top
Sampz93 2 years ago
very heavy flame too. its probably a custom shop build

His gold top has no flame in the top. Sorry.
omegaguitars 2 years ago 3
Then it's not a strict gold top, because it's pretty damn clear at 2:30 that that guitar has a flame maple top with a transparent gold finish.
RoflCopterAce 2 years ago 3
This guitar is just a Les Paul Standard with a Bigsby tailpiece and an amber finish....not a gold top at all.
Joe pulls pickups from other guitars to out in his Les Pauls because he likes a little more bite in the high end than the standard PAF pickups give.
