obviously ?uestlove is not John Bonham, he IS however, ?uestlove and is a damn good drummer in his own right. This man is a proven drummer who plays his own way, just like John Bonham would play a Roots song in his style if he could.
Everybody sounds amateur in comparison to Bonzo, but I think its the sound of the room which let ?ustlove soudn bad. He´s normally a very very tight drummer!
it might sound a little sloppy, but it's not at all amateur, especially the little groove they go into around 2:30, think about it, if he played his coined hip hop beats they wouldn't match the music nor the song, broaden your musical horizons my man
When ever there is a lunch break at school i dont study, I don't Work out. I go to the music room and chill on the drums. Instead of studying afterschool I hook up my Casio and start recording beats.
zeppelin is hard to top... but ben harper (or any one man) trying to cover robert plant AND jimmy page himself, probably never intended to compete... good fun seeing either of them cover "classic rock"
people need to realize that travis barker, as a musician, was the rhythm section of a corporate commodity designed to sell records and significantly shorten the attention span of young people, and not a talented craftsman like ?uestlove who seeks to create challenging, intelligent music.
All music serves its purpose. Intelligent music? Just because it doesn't talk to you doesn't mean it lacks intellect. Anyways, Travis Barker is bad ass drummer. Who gives a fuck if he is Hannah Montana's drummer.
well not that that is out of the way, travis barker is...ok...he was the best part of blink i would say, most talented, he did good fills but....i wouldn't go as for to say he is amazing...he is just good in blink, outside of that i don't know. same with ?uestlove but i would say ?uestlove has more room to progress as a drummer, taking into consideration the band he plays in.
Although ?uestlove is a PHENOMENAL drummer (check out his recordings and other live work with the Roots---killer grooves), I just don't dig his take on this classic.
Ben sounds good on vocals. Although he plays it well, his slide work isn't fantastic and I kept waiting for something more (perhaps it's not his primary instrument?). John is pretty good. I'd prefer a little tighter hi-hat action from ?. He tends to use too much symbol crashes and a very loose hi-hat (for my tastes) on much of the improv. Maybe it was just the volume.
Overall, it's a good jam that's a bit rough around the edges.
dude this is a practice session most likly, and when u say "john is pretty good..." r u refering to john paul jones, john bonham, or dont u mean ?uestlove....???
I don't presume it's anything but a jam/practice session. That's why I said "Just judging on the merits of what I see here." Just pretend you only had the audio and didn't know who was playing. Yes, when I said "John", it has to be Jones as there is no one else by the name of John there. Again, I was speaking in the context of what was going on here. Are you questioning that I seemed to be diminishing who the mighty John Paul Jones is or perhaps that I was saying that about John as a whole?
o i gotcha, i re-read your first comment, i misunderstood what u said before...im pretty sure i was drunk when i wrote my comment...sry for the mix up
I will agree with most in saying that Quest is a good drummer, and the Roots are a phenomenal hip hop band, but I can't say he is one of the best drummers alive like twomey565 said. Ben Harper is a great song writer and musician and JPJ, well I don't have to say anything about him. Although it's weird to Quest playing on a kit that size, usually he plays a small 3 piece kit. I wish I was in that room that day!
that is without a doubt, the absolute worst drummer ive ever heard, especially trying to cover dazed and confused. he made me want to rip off my ears. jpj is the man though. always solid
That's John Paul Jones, Led F'n Zeppelin's bass player, and all round musical genius. Arguably the most influential rock bassist to ever pick of the instrument.
anyone hating on this video is just hating cause you aint jamming with them... that's why you're so broke and im so paaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiid
