  • I am so jelly right now! I played one earlier tonight at a Guitar Center and man I am jelly over this sound!

  • i like those first few chords! ^^

dj shadow sampled that. he made an awesome song with that. its called midnight in a perfect world

  • those chords sound amazing, can i ask what they are :D?

  • please WonderSander what version of the small stone is that? the first or second? It sounds amazing!

  • God damn it why did you stop?!! As one of the men before me said, it sounded like Jamiroquai, or Steely Dan, Weather Report. Man I just love that dark sound so much, 'wish I played keyboards...

  • That brings back memories. In 1976, I bought a new Suitcase 88 Rhodes. I rewired the pickups to "split" the keyboard into independent lower and upper ranges. The signal from each half of the keyboard went into its own 10-band graphic EQ and its own MXR Phase 100. With moderate panning of the two channels in the mixer and different settings on each MXR, the overlapping phase-shifting was glorious. Unfortunately that Rhodes was stolen from me in 1982. :-(

  • jamiroquai feel, i love it

  • it sounds like "midnight in a perfect world"

  • small stone is probably one of the greatest phase shifters if not the greatest imho

along side the MXR phase 90.

  • @helpdonate1 i'd rather say the MXR '74 Vintage Phase 90

  • Thanks for the demo. Can you suggest a good phaser for a Rhodes, one that doesn't cost too much? Can you just use a guitar effect on it - will that do? - or would you suggest a rack unit which has other effects in it as well?

  • @festilina you can get a Behringer Vintage Phaser for 15-30 bucks and it's amazing with the Rhodes. There are many Youtube videos comapring that effect to the more expensive EH model. :)

  • @TerdVader

Thanks mate - I'll have a look at that.

  • i love this! chorsu and phaser like that is use in deep house funky house and looooove it

  • WOW. Spacey & funky, you should do some tracks with this

  • Very Cool!!

  • I just scored a free Vintage small stone in the box with warranty papers its looks new no scuffs or rust! I cant wait to run it through my tube amp!

  • A Fender Rhodes and a Vintage Small Stone Phaser is a strong combination.

  • AWESOME DUDE AEWSOME MORE POWER TO YA!

  • Bliss! Nice one.

  • Wow Id love to record you on keys on one of my soulful house tunes! That rhodes would just sound beautiful!

  • that sounds sexual, no lie

  • i use a small stone with my wurlitzer 200a. i'm also looking for a vintage boss ce-1 and i can see that you have one from your other videos.

you should do some example videos of the wurlitzer through some effects pedals!

i was wondering if you ever use a wah with your vintage keyboards?

  • Woah. I love that sound. So super 70's. You absolutely must do a longer video of you improving with that Small Stone running Sweet ! 8-)

  • Wow this is hypnotizingly beautiful

  • Thanks for the nice demo. Which version of the small stone is this ? Is it the old one or the reissue ? cheers

  • You gotta get me priced up for a suitcase, i gotta get another Rhodes, digi samples just arent the same. You have any for sale? Cheers.

  • classic!

  • I've been replaying and replaying this ... the sound is absolutely wonderful! the chords help :)

  • Reminds me of watching Chips with my dad in 81 cool

  • love that sound , reminds me of Richard Tee..I wish I could play his licks one day!!

  • nice!

  • what model is that please?

  • it's a Rhodes Suitcase MK1 1979

    peace!

  • great can anybody tell me artists that play this kind of rhodes stuff?

  • Richard Tee (famous of Just the two of Us and 50 was to leave your lover)

  • also famous for co-leading Stuff.

  • yeah listen to the band Stuff, Richard Tee plays rhodes on a bunch of the songs and always uses the small stone.

  • and to Paul Simon's 50 ways to leave your lover (here on youtube) and to Just the two of US

  • dj shadows endtroducing album has a lot of this on it.

  • Check out George Duke !!

  • Also, Victor Feldman on Steely-Dan albums.

  • Duke doesn't use Smallstone and if he uses phaser (which is pretty rare) he uses a Mutron Bi-phase

  • i inturpreted the qusetion (from MPOUR) as being somewhat more general in that he was simply asking for a brief list of Rhodes players of the 1970/80 era (ie. not ones who specifically used a Phaser pedal).

Thanks for the extra info tho !!

  • wow, it reminds me Jamiroqai

  • I LOVE this sound. LOL! It rocks! Probably my fave way to hear a Rhodes. :)

  • Nice!!!

Please teach a code using in detail. tension note too.

  • Nice !!!

  • dude please sell this to me.

    please

  • Do some No Quarter or some Paranoid Android lol.

  • That's music to my ears. Great for anything late seventies

  • Awesome, sexy sound!

  • The sound track of makin' babies. Awesome. Now can you play Minute By Minute by the Doobies? That song is the epitome of smoooooooth music. The intro is hard as hell to play.

  • Excellent!!

  • what song it is

  • Just won this same 'Small Stone Phaser' pedal on ebay for 30 quid !! i never was much of a phaser pedal fan, but after seen this video i am going to try one out for real. i LOVE the 'sweep' effect created at 16/17 seconds.

  • klote delay ook altijd.

  • YEAH!

  • FRAMPTON!!

  • Sweeeet! Reminds me of Richard Tee and Steely Dan... The Phaser is fantastic. Which model is it?

  • ins't it Small Stone from Electro Harmonix?

  • marvellous sound

  • Sounds like some of Lonnie Listen Smith keys

  • creamy

  • really beautiful sound! zapp, that song popped into my mind also. dj shadow sampled a track of Pekka Pohjola called Madness Subsides.

  • what I meant to say is :Do you know if the new phasers on the market have the same sound as your vintage one?

  • Beautifull sound.Makes me think of the beginning of "Midnight in a perfect world" by DJ Shadow which probably sampled David Axelrod or the Electric Prunes.

By the way, do you know if the models of phasers are the same or is there a big difference with an OG ??

  • the sound is really beautiful.. and midnight in a perfect world was the first thing popping in my mind. dj shadow sampled the track of Pekka Pohjola called Madness Subsides.

  • oh man... that sound is so sweet!

  • Nice sound.

  • Love those things.

  • sounds dope bro.
